It seems quite a few of us take all kinds of supplements to aid our diabetes, so this thread is "spill the beans" on what you take  My bathroom cabinet looks like Holland and Barrett now, I take so blummin' many.

These are what I take (all since diagnosis).

Bitter Mellon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Acai berry
Vit D (prescribed and a spray I bought)
Vit B12
Vit E
Cod liver oil capsule

Then there is all my prescribed medicine, and also 75mg of aspirin I am trying for calf pain and a one a day multi Vit. I rattle!!

That's nothing;

Acai with Green Tea
Gymnema
Bladderwrack
Evening Primrose Oil
Collagen
Damiana
Omega 3
L-Tyrosine
Selenium
Moringa
LevoThyroxine

Think I might have missed one....

You're bigger than me, so won't rattle as much!! :D

X let me know how you get on with the Coenzyme Q10, as that's the one I have my eye on next.

When MH gets home from being educated he's got three new ones to take. The postie thinks we're all druggies....he's delivered so many rattly packages lately.

Xyz, you don't fancy the Damiana then?

He he. I had a rattly package this morning, aspirin and Vit E. My parcel carrier is lovely, she always asks how I am, after explaining why I had a huge increase in Amazon mail, most of which rattle  Although today, I also had week 3 Newcastle diet shakes, and also a silicone baking set which I want to play with one I am done with the ND.

MW just wrote it down and has passed it to me for "research" after reading your post. She is most impressed with your maps for wallpaper btw! Will let you know.

Before diagnosis my daily input of supplements was precisely zero.

Most I found about about by reading the front pages of DCUK http://www.diabetes.co.uk/vitamins-supplements.html and then reading up on.

Others I take to counter any alleged leeching effects that Statins have.

I stopped the Gymnema recently to see if it was giving me cramp. Since stopping no cramp but have been drinking tonic water so maybe I should add that to the list.

I stopped the Banaba not because it didn't work but just that it cost more than the Bitter Melon which seems to be just as effective.

I take Vit D cos I'm a vampire and don't go out in the sun (much)

I'll post the results of the Damiana on here...those that are relevant

Just added Dong Quai to my armoury...not for gentlemen.

The maps came from Ebay and second hand bookshops (a passion of mine) and they are wonderful, very informative. I might get a photo up when I get a bit more done. Note to self; get off butt.

Are all these things necessary to take?

Nope. Most of it is just Snake Oil.

Snake Oil? Sounds good where do I get some?

I don`t take any supplements Sarah, and all my BG`s are in the normal range. I am very proud of that

I think it is wrong to introduce to many new things at once. How on Earth does anyone know which ones are working, and which ones are doing nothing? Also, even natural therapy`s can interact in weird ways. Where are you finding the information to make sure that isn`t the case, and they are safe to take with any other medication?

Wow - I'm impressed! All I take is one multi vitamin plus iron. After 2 x metformin twice a day, a rampiril, a simvastin and an amytripaline (is that right spelling?) for restless leg I though I was rattling, but some of you must sound like a set of maracas.

The only thing I take is omega 3 which was suggested by my GP for my osteoarthritis but I really dont agree with taking all these vitamins nd things!

Going back through the list here are the ones I know work based on meter readings and how I feel

Bitter Melon - YES (spike control)
Cinnamon - YES (fasting levels)
Gymnema * - YES (appetite suppressant mostly)
Banaba * - YES (spike control)
Vitamin B12 - ? but MW says it worked for her.
Vitamin D - ? but as I get nowhere near the amount of sunlight I should....
Omega 3 - ?
50+ Multi Vitamin & Minerals - ? Statin protection
Chromium Picolinate - ? (supposed to be good for diabetics)
Chelated Manganese - ? (supposed to be good for diabetics)
Potassium Citrate - YES had a deficiency don't anymore
Biotin - ? (supposed to be good for diabetics)

* currently stopped
+ on order

Meds

Metformin - YES
Simvastatin - YES
Ramiprill - YES

I will probably give up loads if the gp confirms I can come of the Statin and others as they run out and see if there are any noticeable effects on my levels . I will keep with the Bitter Melon and Cinnamon as they are working without question in my case.

none,
Just eat a variety of fresh foods and am lucky to get a bit more natural sunlight than many of you.
