The forums Pet thread :)

Oh my goodness, there's some gorgeous looking pets in here.
They're all beautiful, I'm really attracted to one in particular but
it would be unfair to single out. I guess though, we all must have
an animal we could call our favourite.

Anyway, our three children grew up with our very docile and lovely natured
(we could do anything with her, as you can see, poor dog. lol ) whippet we
collected from our nearby dog sanctuary.
She died of cancer of the bowel at 15 years old, she only survived a
a week after it was confirmed.
You know what it's like, we were all devastated.

I decided to take her back to the vet on my own the Saturday of that week

I was asked to lift her up onto the vet's bench then step back a couple
of paces?? There was a female assistant facing me on the other side of
the bench as I lifted the dog up and as I stepped back.

The assistant suddenly turned round to move towards the vet, as she did
so our poor dog fell off the bench, and I couldn't reach her quickly enough.
I was so angry, but I was too distressed at having our dog put to sleep
to say anything.

The vet then came over, gave her the injection and ........nothing.

Now, we'd to have a pet dog put to sleep years earlier, and I know that as
the needle is withdrawn, the animal keels over immediately.

I asked the vet why our dog was still standing there. Oh says he, that was just
a tranquillizer to calm her before we put her to sleep.
I couldn't believe it, he was about to "put her down" (with immediate effect)
but she had to have a tranquillizer prior to the lethal dose. Unbelievable.

What, in effect, the vet was indulging himself in was taking advantage of his
clients emotional state in order to include two injections in his fee, rather than
just the one that was required

I should have reported him to Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, but as the following
dragged on I didn't feel I could do it just then. Time went on and I let it go.

He's still in practice, his day will come.

willie.

PS, hope your cat's ok now RRB.

How sad to go through this with your beloved dog. Having an animal put to sleep is one of the saddest things we have to do. I have the ashes of all mine and they are going in the coffin with me when I go ! I bet you have many happy memories though which are priceless.

Thank you connie.
It really is sad isn't it, and it's like loosing a member of your family.
Those without pets must surely not understand such feelings,
probably think we're all weird.

My vet has always tranquillised all my cats before giving them the ketomine injection to put them to sleep. I think it is normal practice.

Really!! benjygirl. So they're all at it now.

Well, until I'm shown a genuine understandable reason for implementing such a practice,
my mind is set on profiteering in a despicable manner.

If I'm correct, well...shame on them.

If I'm wrong (and I hope I am) well...
I'll be more than happy to post in a full apology.

Thank you for replying.
willie.

I love looking at the gorgeous photos. My daughter loves Yorkies and wants to own one when's she's an adult. I I used to work in kennels years ago as a Sarurday job and I loved it.
Our cat Pebbles just came in and jumped on the table chirping away at me, she is so cute. She has now jumped up on the kitchen unit above the cupboard where her treats are kept, but I call them her tweets lol

I have 3 rescue cats.... Sabrina and Harry who are mother and son, they are 4 and 3 now, and in January we added Sophie a rescue kitten to the family, she's now 9 months old and the other two love her to bits :D

We also have a flock of pampered pet chickens :D

Our house is like Noah's ark lol. There's Eric and Ernie the chinchillas, Smudge the psycho *****, Tinks the Persian who looks like one of the baddies from cats and dogs and Sophie the miniature poodle and Scooby the havanese. Thank goodness the fish tank and reptiles have gone!

Oh no Andy, that is so so sad! I can't imagine how you must be feeling, but if you want to pm me I'm here to talk x

I am so sorry to hear of your loss I know the pain of losing a beloved pet. When our last dog died we said no more can't stand the pain of losing them but there is an empty space in your life like something missing. After a trip to the local dogs home Freddie arrived in our lives and filled a gap that was left by our beloved Alfie. Never say never just give it time you will never replace them but you can love another dog and there are so many waiting.
