...25 units of Humalog, and I'm STILL 15.2... I've taken another 5 units, and will hope I'm straight by bedtime.

I've been baking for the family but for me, well, it's going to be an abstemious Christmas, I think I can say...!

So do I...!

I knew it was a really bad idea, but, well, it's Christmas and all that, and I'd baked a really lovely batch of mince pies and though my nephew took most of them home with him, I just found two making their way into my mouth...you know how it is. A salutory lesson - eighteen virtuous months of low-carbing shot down in a couple of greedy mouthfuls.

If it makes you feel better I have been out today with my family for lunch and then the cinema to see the new Star Wars movie, have just tested at 20.2, so a big correction with my tea..

Thank you - it does make me feel better. I'm guessing we won't be the only ones over the next week, either...!

EEEEK! @yorkshireAli from a sympathetic type 2 mince pie sneak thief!

My husband bought some pretty looking mince pies decorated with little cut out pastry snowflakes, and some matching rhubarb and ginger ones (all for himself I hasten to add - - not for me!). I've not been tempted for the last 2 Christmases, but for a change I thought I'd snaffle one of each - a complete waste of time as all I could taste was sugar!:eek::eek: However it looks as though I got away fairly lightly - my glucose level was just over 9 after an hour and down to mid 7s at 2 hours.

Hi. Commercial mince pies are almost 40gms each of carbs - horrific.

I don't suppose my homemade ones were any less, to be honest. I was seduced by Mary Berry's recipe on TV last night - sweet pastry with orange rind, mincemeat beefed up with chopped orange segments and brandy, and topped with grated marzipan... Absolutely moreish, but I can still taste the sweetness now.

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted, but I don't think I'll be repeating it. I'll still make them, because I love baking, but I'll be looking for (non diabetic!) volunteers instead.

Luckily my sons are back for Christmas and New Year, so I'll have a captive audience...!

Back down to more normal levels now - 8.8 - but three days' worth of humalog for those two mince pies....absolutely not worth it. And I'll probably be all over the place tomorrow as well. Hey ho. I'll put that down to experience.

I too saw Mary Berrys pies and was tempted, but after baking 40+ for my daughters school a week ago I won't be making anymore, baked out !! Have only got down to 14.4 10 minutes ago so another big correction and glug of water before bed, hoping I wake at a better level..

Oops, didn't mean to post that twice - sorry.

Sorted :) Mince pies always put my blood sugar up - especially the shop bought ones (lots of pastry, I think). Homemade ones aren't so bad, but still carby for the size.

Christmas pudding is another diabetes devil. The carbs in a small portion always shocks me.

I did see someone mention making homemade mince pies by rolling out the pastry very thinly and also not putting a top on the pie thus carbs a lot less to contend with. Like Noblehead I don't like mince pies either so don't have to worry about temptation either.

I got mugged by *half* a tiny M&S mince pie at lunch today. Two hypers today and up/down up/down as a result Was it worth it? Maybe, if I'm back to normal tomorrow, which I doubt.

Haha, I read your mincemeat as 'bee-fed', and spent a few silly seconds wondering what that was.... !
I think these tv chefs should be brought into line. :) Marzipan on mince pies?????

Marzipan indeed - just in case it isn't quite sweet enough already...!

A little bit of what you fancy won't hurt you. It's not as if your levels are always high. I know 2 people who runs their levels at 30. That is high.
