One Belvita milk and cereal biscuit 12.5g has 8.4g carbohydrate 55 calories 1.8g fat being T2 do not know if ok for T1 but I would have one for breakfast just the one mind you
although the comments above appear to assume you are low carbing (a perfectly reasonable assumption on this forum!), there arent any particular rules on what a type 1 should or shouldn't eat. Just read the label and consider whether it fits in with how you manage your food and what you want to achieve.
I would imagine they are fairly high GI so, if you choose them, you might want to consider pre-bolusing to try to avoid the spike.
I started eating them when they first came out. I told my specialist at the time and he nearly spat his false teeth out. Ha ha
The dietician appointment was in the post.
I don't have much success with dieticians. I have too big a personality for them, I think.
Seeing my new one on tuesday. Hoping she can help enlighten me.
@leah86 I'm Type 1. I eat them sometimes. They're fine if you bolus appropriately
I eat the whole little pack - ie three or four, depending on brand.
I tend to have them when I'm in a hurry, and I used to have them on work days sometimes when events conspired to make me late : D I just had them with a cup of coffee, not the 'suggested breakfast' some of them have on the packs.
Try them and see You may have to have a few goes to perfect the bolus amount and timing, but that's pretty normal with any new food.
Thanks everyone yes I do carb count I was thinking when in work I don't always get time to eat breakfast because I can't eat as soon as I get up and then I don't get a break until late so was thinking something on the go!!! X
Having breakfast helps my Dawn Phenomenon. Not having breakfast or having it too long after getting up makes the DP worse (presumably because my body thinks it's not going to have any food : D )
Some of the breakfast biscuits aren't very tasty, but there are some flavours that are fine. They do need a drink with them though, I find.
Nope @azure, tried eating, not eating, lucozade, protein .... The list goes on. Nothing stops my DP. My liver thinks I'm being chased by bears and tigers 30 minutes after my first cuppa.
The only thing I know is that it will happen. The extent and the length changes every day depending on what is planned, exercise the day before, the amount of protein the say before (best to do moderate protein but I love a roast on a Sunday, low carb though).
If I was to eat biscuits for breakfast it would just make the morning a nightmare.
I just do a correction equating to expected waking phenomen. Mine occurs when my feet hit the floor not on waking though...as hubby brings me two drinks in bed each morning I have these and on 2nd one before getting my feet on the ground I correct my expected rise. It used to be between 1 and 2 units when on levemir but now I'm on tresiba I've had to raise my waking correction to either 2.5 or 3 units.
Then about 45 minutes later I get round to breakfast.
I set my basal to MASSIVE an hour before I wake to drive my sugars down to 4s before it kicks off. But the amount changes. The first 3 days of the six week summer hols it didn't appear at all! Thought I was cured of it yaayyyy. Then it started again so when I hit 6.7 on my cgm I start correcting. It can start at 5.30 and go on until 11.30. Or 5.30 until 9.30.
Carbs just complicates everything. And then the wind changes direction and....
Hey @Mrs Vimes go for the full fat version if you can and also not a huge amount if you can help it, I buy big tubs from Lidls and will have 2 large spoonfuls, I don't get a big spike from it, but as you've said it depends which way the wind blows, some days I don't go above 9 and others I can fly at 14+, no rhyme or reason..
