Type 1s: Stupid non diabetic bingo

Now I'm older the Consultants in A&E and other deprs and wrongly writing down I'm a T2.... because of my age!!

Obviously they forget you were young once and years ago it was more known as juvenile diabetes.. but is known as T1 now. They just assume T2 and they are the health professionals!!

I know but since I'm not a type two I wouldn't be the one to make that bingo, but we should have one for type twos as well

I am pretty sure there was a thread recently, can anyone help with that ?

Yes, indeed they do. Why not start a thread for Type 2s? I think there was one a while ago actually so you could always search for that if you prefer.

This thread has been started by a Type 1 asking other Type 1s. That doesn't mean the OP doesn't care about other types of diabetes or underestimate the ignorance about them, but in this case this thread specifies Type 1s.
Can't we just for once all join together and have a giggle about how daft the general public are to all types of diabetics? Oh no, silly me - we have to be segregated, read a T1 thread but don't dare enter, I'll waddle off to the T2 section then. Better still I'll have a rest from this place altogether.

Don't go @zand let's be rebels and post on this thread ,Anyway I can't have diabetes cause I am too thin
CAROL

"So was it an unhealthy diet and lots of sugar that caused it?"

"How can you have diabetes when you're so slim?"

One of the most frustrating of all is when I am about to eat something remotely unhealthy and get a "are you allowed to eat that?" comment. Or someone is baking cakes and says "sorry about this, must be hard not to be able to join in". Or getting a diabetic easter egg because I'm "not allowed normal chocolate"(!)

Threads like this in no way say we can't be together. There are other threads on the forum that don't specify a Type, but when a type is specified eg "Type 2s - What's Your Fasting Blood Sugar, then courtesy suggests non-Type 2s might want to consider whether they should post there or in a thread that doesn't specify type instead.

The OP here is a young Type 1. Please could people have a thought for him rather than scoring points.

There is already a thread in Type 2 on a similar topic. Why try to post in this thread to score points? We all know diabetes is **** whatever type we have but it is courtesy to think about why the thread might specify Type 1s.

You can post where you want, of course, but I personally think it would be more supportive to not on this occasion.

But it's natural sugar. o_O

I can identify with that one! ;)

I normally reply by asking "and where do you thing the contents of a Tate & Lyle bag comes from..?? o_O

It's a good job some of these dumb **** comments come from the health service.. & not the catering industry! :D

This isn't a type 2 topic, it was posted in a type 1 thread and the title started with Type 1's.

Can we please respect the op on this and not raise the 'them and us' discussion, it is supposed to be comments relevant to type 1's.

I think it is highly supportive to show how many things T1s and T2s have in common. No matter what our age, or length of diagnosis.

Yes, it is - and we have a lot in common, and are together in the fight against diabetes, as are all other diabetes types. However, that doesn't mean we should disrespect an OP's request for specific types. There are plenty of threads that do the same.

If a Type 2 asks if, for example, any other T2s are having problems with Metformin, it would be extremely churlish for a Type 1 to post in that thread saying something along the lines of Type 1s on insulin have problems too,, etc.

No posts from Type 2s have been deleted or edited in this thread. All I asked was that people consider the young OP.

Personally, I would welcome T1 input on such a T2 thread, if the post was polite, considerate and relevant. They may have experiences and highly relevant comments, even if they don't have T2 experience. More and more T1s are being prescribed Metformin.

Anyway, I am out of here, and I apologise to @mc9 for continuing the derailing discussion. I won't post on this thread again.

Wow,, just wow..!?!?! I've just come back after 4 days without tinternet & fancied a chuckle with my "D brethren" (all types.)
So, it's a thread about dumb comments from non D "norms" the subject matter does not contain insulin dosage or bolus to carb related trickyness..

The only "disrespect" I see is the inability to alow a young T1 poster to handle his own thread topic... ;)

**** is an excellent word azure.

When having a low a day after an appointment with my diabetes team someone asked: "Didn't you go to the hospital for that yesterday?" I told them "yes but they didn't have enough sugar to fill me up till my next appointment."

Another one was after i won a competition: "Well you're strong because you're diabetic and have access to insulin" I think they were mixing up because and despite.

The best one was someone asking if i had the same type as her aunt which would have been a fair question if she didn't have pregnancy diabetes and me being male. I did have long hair at the time, maybe that sparked some confusion, though the beard should have been a dead give away of my gender.

I changed surgeries a few months ago.. There were a few problems on the switchover?
Soooo, seeing this GP to get a repeat prescription, this professional was absolutely gobsmacked when I produced a Novopen to explain what the cartriges are.. I was captian ruddy Kirk when I pulled out the meter.. This guy was in his mid 30s. Not Gandalf the gray!! :arghh:

I just burst out laughing, thanks qe5rt, top banana :D:hilarious:

Throws hat in ring neither T1or T2

Type3c what is that?

after they've googled, so you have Alzheimer's

OMG ive found a site that knows about 3c (this one:pompous:)

There is only 2 types of diabetes

I didnt know the pancreas does so much

Wouldn't you be dead without a pancreas (looks like I'm still alive, must have missed the dead memo)

If you had a transplant you wouldnt need to take insulin (but i would need anti-rejection drugs)

If you need a pancreas to digest fat where does your food go (have you looked at my butt lately)

Dont worry i know how to inject insulin

My girlfriend's brother's mate's wife works with a guy and he eat nothing but fruit for 6 months and his diabetes went away (did he have a pancreas)

If your pancreas is gone, why are you in constant pain (when I find the answer to that you'll be the 1st to know)

Can you just put the insulin in a drink rather than inject (:banghead:)

Can you inject me with insulin so i know what it feels like

:eek:I know some f***ing strange people:confused:
