Hi peeps, just looking for a wee bit of advice from you lovely people. No matter when I take my Novorapid, 20/30 mins before food, my BG is still rising by about 4 or 5 steps. It will drop back to fairly good levels after about 4/5 hours.

example today before lunch 7.5, waited 30 mins right amount of carbs for insulin and 2 hours later its at 12.2. Its now heading down, sitting at 9.9 about an hour after my 12.2 and by 6 oclock I expect to be around 7.

its the same with breakfast as well

Any thoughts?

@smc4761 After joining this forum i realised the same thing was happening to me, i never tested 2 hours after meals so was not used to seeing those sort of values. If the boat is steady i wouldn't rock it too much. The best advice would be to consume the same amount of carbs with the lowest GI value to help lower spikes (easyish), pre bous by 45 minutes instead of 30 (tricker ish) and split your meals, (very hard)

And to be honest 4 or 5 points is not that bad,

perhaps try to drop your target BG reading by a point also ( so 6 instead of 7)

Thanks Chris, after many years of running at probably 9 and 10, I have set myself some goals to bring it down gradually. My last Hba1C was 67, that was in March. The one before that was 78:(

I have an appointment in 2 weeks at diabetic clinic and I am hoping to bring that down to 60. Baby steps. Ultimately my aim is for around 54 and to feel comfortable with a BG of 6 ish

I find that I am OK in work at home, where I have good control of the situation, should I run low. I have a real fear of hypos, had a few bad experiences, so probably tend to err on the high side

When I am out and about at weekends usually to fairly far flung places, with my birdwatching/photography, I will run high. The libre though has given me much more control, perhaps I just to have more faith in my carb counting/insulin dose

This forum and the advice form the guys and gals here has defo helped me take a bit more control

@Robinredbreast so glad to hear you are getting back to your young self again :). Keeping everything crossed with the jobs

Am back to a steady 5.9 after the morning hypo. And yes its ALWAYS the blood monitors fault if I am low or high and it gets sweared at a lot. My girlfriend reckons I have a fair few screws missing!? I blame the diabetes myself (OR the BG monitor lol)

Good day friends
Hugs Robs xxx

Rollercoaster had me at 18.5 yesterday and 5.2 this morning

Isn’t T1 fun

@Tony337 :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:. I hope i don't wake up during the night laughing about the 2 fingers up but really, talk about brave for saying it as i have done it many times. I'm about ready to do my post meal test. Dinner time in Australia. Hope it doesn't get the finger.:hilarious:

@smc4761 totally agree with the help this forum has provided. I was at 64 this time last year and dropped 10 points to 54 since i have been learning from everyone. when i hear what sort of control some people have i am in disbelief how they achieve it. But IMHO you only live once, it's about striking a balance, doing and eating the things that make you happy, but also making sure you live long enough and with a good enough quality of life to enjoy it.

My young un informed me I'd not got her school shoes yet and mums not happy and has been going on about it like yeah, that's just how I remember her :p, so we had a trip to town to fix that instead, bad move as the races are on, I've never seen the point in 'getting on it' at 10am but by the state of some they must have started earlier :) sad to see an old tramp guy with a bottle rooting through bins, and even sadder to see he'd only made it up to the next bin as we passed back by on our way out.
I managed to drop to 3.2 in the town, Dextrotabs sorted that and the young un took advantage of my confusion by getting dearer shoes :) and some sets of false nails, 5.5 back at the car parked a fair way out so I've cleaned a few house windows in our cul de sac whilst hosting child and friends, and no-ones died :) and I'll eventually get to the gym next once I've returned the child, but I can't do that till her mum answers her phone.

And that's flamingoing me off a little :p

Night peeps hope you all had a good day. Had a slight blip after lunch my usual spike, but its been downhill and steady since then now at 5.9. Happy days

That's good. Goodnight, @smc4761 , and everyone.

I have very little to report. I went for a nice long walk, which started with me burning off a small high, and then on the way back I decided just to get home without checking, as it was falling so slowly.

When I got back it was 4.2, and I panicked, and over corrected, after my experience the other day. It's all under control now.

It was very very bad of me not to check on the way home, but it was raining, and there were loads of people. I won't do it again, though.

Anyway, goodnight, everyone.

I didn't eventually get to the gym as the little un didn't go back till late, I had a small spike after tea (home cooked chicken rogan josh & brown rice) as the portion size doesn't suit inactivity :) but steady away since, supper, bed, goodnight :)
