Type 1'stars R Us

But aye, tomorrow I'm going to post a pic of my bowl of porridge me thinks, the whole 300ml of it in fact :) I really should start a thread in the diet section showing how carefully chosen complex carbs can work for a T1d, this is a kind of proof the old burn more calories than you consume to lose weight and vice versa rings true, a good time to do it too as I'm looking to gain a couple of kg right now so have upped carbs and insulin to allow this, I was mortified to find myself at 79kg at clinic, losing that extra kg hurt :p

Tbh with you all, that's why I am not on the forum so much, it has become be so anti, against the professionals, diets, statins, "it's no one's fault if they have certain medical conditions" it's the industry, it's the food manufactures etc , and I find it so sad and depressing at times, plus my mood is not always in a good place.

I have messaged mods about the post in question. Oh dear, I will be late for work now !!

I almost feel that porridge deserves it's own dedicated thread it pops up so often. I'm impressed you get through 60g/300ml @kev-w you must have some decent sized bowls.

I think I'll have a bowl tomorrow morning. :woot:

@Robinredbreast I might have been a bit off with people in some of my replies but it wasn't intended. I agree moods are hard

Yes use that junction once a week at least but fortunately I was on my way out of the city yesterday instead of on the Northbound. They were down to 7 with repeated corrections but shot back up after my delayed brunch according to Libre.

Whereabouts do you live?

I'll get accused of 'typeism' again but I come on here just to talk to other T1s, other human pin cushions such as myself, and to see that it's not just me who has the ups and downs, trials and tribulations and all that jazz, I'm glad I found the place last October whilst researching who was doing what in regards to the Libre roll out as it's enlightening as in "you are not alone" , I just tend to populate this thread these days and the exercise one but having already read the article I've fat shamed someone by commenting it now seems, which is odd as the article is about obesity and weightloss.

Hey ho :)
Public Health England said excess calories were the root cause of obesity and tackling the issue was a priority.

It could be a 'type 1 r us' initiation ritual - the 'Special K' challenge.

We all eat what @kev-w does for breakfast and then post the graph.

Ew - no thanks.
If I wanted to eat something with the texture of wallpaper paste I'd eat wallpaper paste!
I think porridge is an acquired taste/texture that I have never acquired.

But I'd happily do the type 1 pizza eating initiation ritual (as long as I can eat a home made, thin crust, vegetarian pizza).

It's a bit creamier than wall paper paste. But fair play i like pizza too, with extra mozzarella.

I do porridge allot, especially on days when I train in the mornings, the thing I have found with porridge for me is the insulin timing.

Jab and wait too long and your gonna crash low, jab and eat too early and I'm spiking. If I am in range I jab 15m before I eat.

This is what I usually have in it
If need a protein fix, I'll delete the sweetener and add 1 scoop of chocolate IGF-1 chocolate protein powder.

Macros
  1. Without protein powder 60g Carbs 21g Fats 25g Protein
  2. With protein powder 65g Carbs 23g Fats 50g Protein

I’m a fan of both as long as it’s a thin crust put your own topping on pizza - Toms, oregano, anchovy, mushroom, sliced courgette, a smattering of parmesan; and proper unrefined big flake Scottish porridge!

In total agreement. My mother used to make me eat porridge when I was a LOT younger, 45 years ago...you can imamgine what it was like, no sweeteners and not the best quality porridge oats. Wallpaper paste would have probably tasted better lol

Can I use this sentence for my daughters home work regarding punctuation and the use of semi colons - this is just brill! The only punctuation sensitive sentence I know is about a boy and his uncle (whose called Jack) and a horse.............not an appropriate example :hilarious:

Afternoon lovelies, blimey I’ve missed a lot today.... had a sewing class this morning and an interview with a recruitment agency this afternoon, and then an aimless wander around Lidl.

Anyway... this one’s for you @Fairygodmother ;)

@Knikki & @mrsknikki - wishing you a wonderful day tomorrow and all that jazz’n’cake ❤️❤️❤️

Nothing tremendously interesting to report on the T1 front, I’m afraid. All very dull. Still more than happy with the chest placement of this Libre, it’s spot on accurate with bloods. Oh, and I’ve just been prescribed a low dose of levothyroxine in a hope that it might help my raft of classic hypothyroid symptoms. My tests came back as just on the cusp of low, but my lovely GP says we're “going to treat the patient, not the biochemistry”. We’ll reassess in three months.

Happy Birthday, @Fairygodmother

Good luck and best wishes for tomorrow @Knikki and Mrsknikki!

The trouble with working on Sundays, in addition to term-time working, is Thursday night feels as if it should be Friday, but I've things to do so I'm going to have to get out of the chair I've slumped in sooner rather than later. I do get out of Main Paid Work an hour earlier on a Friday, which does help, and I do refuse to do anything for the Sunday Job from Friday 3.00 p.m. until early Sunday Morning when I check e-mails and do the hour or so of admin stuff before church.

I am remarkably not as wiped out as I might be at this stage in the term. I seem to have an easier group this year, either that or I've got the measure of the area I work in after three years and the behind the scenes work has been much more organised this year. Whichever, I'm grateful, as the past two years have been quite, um, lively shall we say. The liveliest two have each had a remarkably focused and calm day which is a rare thing.

This year's "Clear the Room Fast" technique is not obscure classical music played loudly, but the click of the clip-lock box where my test meter and insulin live in the working day... I'm not going to break it to them I'm not going to inject every time the box comes out just yet. I'm enjoying the power!

My old dear would leave the uneaten porridge in the pan for the day after, mixing fresh oats into it every couple of days :) and water, oh and salt, no sugar on cereal in our house and I didn't get T1 till I was 17. But we got boiled tripe on a Thursday with salt (again) and vinegar but often my dad would eat mine as I was playing football.....
