Type 1'stars R Us

Today's good news was a loud beep from my reader - suddenly that started working too. So it's now entirely functional, and I have accidentally demonstrated a libre reader can survive complete immersion provided it's allowed to dry out very carefully. I'm still replacing it with the next sensor though - I don't trust the smaller wires inside not to have corroded to the point of being too fragile.

I've also seen inside a less happy reader (very unreliable button, tending towards not working at all), and I now know the case makes no attempt whatsoever to be sealed. The bottom shell is lightly glued to the front plastic, but can be prised off albeit not in a way providing for a neat repair. The front plastic has the NFC aerial and the touch screen stuff, and a ribbon connects it to the main board with everything else on it, apart from the vibrator motor which sits at the bottom.

Morning needle pushers and pump wearers,
No spinning today so I will have a chilled lunchtime.
But first I have to visit the vampire .... aka phlebotomist ... in preparation for my 13 monthly review at the end of the month.
It's the same every year - here's the date of your appointment at the hospital but beforehand find the piece of paper we gave you last year, make an appointment at your GP surgery and have a blood test that we are likely to lose by the time we see you.

Pumping made no different to this scenario .... but @porl69 my fingers are poised on the keyboard to answer your pumping questions. You can be confident, if I don't know the answer, I'll try my best to respond flippantly instead :)
Lol...made me giggle . Why am I so nervous. Sat in the diabetic part of the hospital shaking lol

@DCUKMod Thanks for that suggestion, at this rate i'm going to need x 100 to achieve all the crafty ideas i've been given so far :)

@porl69 Exciting times ahead, good luck today, here's to the start of a new era :)

Hi @porl69, light-hearted pump surjestions:
- you do not need to jump start your pump at work or use a car battery
- there is no alternator so you do not need to alternate doses or re-circulate the pump's power
- do not let you and your pump get near the diagnostics machine, you never know what condition it will find to label you with
- the pump may be waterproof but exposure to oil is not mentioned in the brochure, nor may it float on fluid no matter that one brand of motor says its car can
- find a good excuse to exit when the pump alarms. "that must be the missus! Better answer it, 'cuse me"
- carry extra supplies, insulin etc but avoid the spare tyre space, the glove box or the golf bag
- if you start talking to the pump make sure you have a doctor's note saying you are prescribed the pump and are perfectly sane.
- if a child asks what the gadget on your belt is, you can confidently say that it is a pager in case MI 10 wishes to contact you.
Enjoy the experience and the android status, mate !!:):):)

To add further to the scurrilous reputation occasioned by my admission that my insulin pump causes me hassles with security checks for entering court or parliamentary buildings:
Today turned out to be shopping day: Goody goody - money to spend but I got read the riot act:
No shopping at the hardware store - otherwise I and my trusty backpack will be weighed both on leaving and coming back from shopping!! Is there no justice in the world.??
Any thought yet on what my new avatar might be, given my 'change' in reputation @helensaramay ??

Crack on @Juicyj. If you'd been where I was this morning you could have made a good start on that total, on fruit and dried fruit alone. I encountered some mystery foods which I will be trying to ascertain in due course.

Do you want a flippant answer to "Why am I so nervous?"
Is it because you feel like a little kid sitting outside the headmaster's office after being caught smoking behind the bike shed?
Is it because your wife is about to find out you are an android? (In which case, did you have that childhood experience?)
Is it because you are going to have to learn how to manage your diabetes all over again?
Or is it because you are going to have to rely on people like me to help you out?
Haha . All of the above

Well I am now cyborg. My DSN and Medtronic rep said not to turn the square and dual wave bolus on until the next appointment . She will be checking lol

Hope it goes well with the new cyborg gear @porl69 :borg:

Libre sensor changeover today, so I'll have to gently coax the calibrations in line for the next 2 days with xDrip. I forgot in my sleepy state to activate the new one last night (I'd already had it in my arm to 'settle') when the previous one ran out on xDrip around bedtime.

Does anyone else find that driving in a morning can exacerbate any dawn phenomenon they get? On days where I don't need to drive early on things are much flatter but on driving days I always have to take a correction based on the number before I drive. My commute is usually a nice, quiet trip down the motorway with little chance of traffic and I'm not road raging either. :hilarious: I'm pleased I can manage it (and it's generally predictable behaviour now) but wondered if anyone else sees similar?

Tomorrow is D-day....going live with the pump so half my Tresiba tonight

. Nervous and excited at the same time.....pumpers be prepared for a barrage of questions lol
Good luck, @porl69 . Not sure if my 12 years of pumping has taught me anything, but happy to help if I can.

Welcome to the DiaBorg, @porl69 and they told me not to fiddle with the settings until my next appointment as well. Obviously I absolutely obeyed... ;)

Teaching today again. Having to deal with an epic foot on the floor about half an hour into the drive here, so I’ve set up a temp basal preset of +95% for an hour which seems to squash my liver’s enthusiasm without making me crash (in both senses). Currently at a 4.5, which is my happy place.

Been manically busy but at least managing to read all your posts, even if I’ve not had time to reply x

Yeah, I used to get that quite a lot, and I noticed it was worse with a larger breakfast. That being said, that was pre-keto. Nowadays, I'm usually fasting until 11am, but even a fry-up doesn't change things much any more.
