Lol, that road is murder, I'm not ashamed to say there was bits of of it I just got off the bike and pushed!

We rode the whole distance. We may have not done it in one go though...

We learned some tricks cycling in the alps. One was to take a camera. When your legs can't take it any more, or a fast cyclist comes in sight behind you, it's time to stop and take a picture - no, you've not been overtaken, it doesn't count.

Another favourite was getting the ferry from Oban to the foot of South Uist, then cycling up through the Outer Hebrides to Stornoway then ferry back across to Ullapool - it's like going back to another more innocent age.

The Outer Hebrides is where I've had the most wind in my cycling life - it's felt like it's all appeared at once. First visit it took two days to get from North Uist to South Uist, and it felt like about two hours to get back. Second visit we did the loop round the top of North Uist first - heading west was very hard going, though the Co-op arrived at exactly the right time to hide from the hailstorm. We spent a while deciding what to have for lunch... Then later on the same day we were going east, and flying. That evening, the tent had every single peg put out, I think for the first time in its life.
We then went north, heaving ourselves over the lump just after Tarbert. A couple of days later, we were in Stornoway and had to get back to Tarbert for the ferry home (car in Skye), and set off prepared for a long and hard ride. A couple of hours later we were sitting in Tarbert wondering what to do while waiting the rest of the day for the ferry - the wind had changed :-)

Lol, too true!

Last time I was there, I started in the South, it was blowing a hooly, fortunately in my direction, force 6, gusting 7 to 8, barely touched the pedals but was still doing about 15 to 20mph, about half way up I met some mountain bikers coming the other way who were having trouble cranking out a couple of mph in bottom gear and looking seriously disgruntled with the whole show.

I've done that trip three times - always start in the South!

I'm a huge fan of MacPac tents. The Kiwis know how to deal with wet and wind. My little microlight one has stood up to a lot of force 8 gusts.

Good morning guys. Happy Monday :)

Blood behaved itself, coffee is ready and filling the house with that oh-so-delicious smell - and son's partner sent me a link to a site that does gorgeous, unknown-to-me, chocolatey vegan treats. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Morning all... Here's hoping that three early nights, three late-ish, for me, starts and holing myself up in a quiet corner for most of the weekend has stockpiled enough mental energy to cope with the next four and a half days.

Have a good week, everyone, and if not my quiet, restorer of mental energy corner is available on loan.

Morning all! Not sure if I’m working yet today but have to get up and turn myself into a teacher just in case THE CALL arrives. Nice smooth night in the fours, but quite wheezy this morning after driving past some oilseed rape fields yesterday. It really is the yellow peril! Loaded up on inhalers and antihistamine and really hoping for a day off tbh.

Happy Monday :)

Morning all. Couldn’t agree more with you about the oilseed rape Mel. It doesn’t make me wheeze, but that smell - urgh! Imagine living next door to a field of it.
Broad beans though, they’re lovely. Like sweet peas. Pity you can’t make a good oil from them.
Flax is wonderful too, that colour.

@Mel dCP multi talented cyborg :hilarious::hilarious:

Bloods have been very good today (so far!)
Appointment thru already for Wednesday for a lung function test at 9am. Will have more of an idea why I am coughing so much!!! Saying that, I have not coughed so much today......
I didn’t know there was varying levels of Welshness.:)

Oh you would be VERY surprised at the varying levels of Welshness lol

Hi all, v busy weekend, busy week coming up, working, friend staying, moveis tonight. Misjudged how physical some of the stuff I was doing at the weekend would be so several hypos I could've done without but got loads done despite interruptions. It really is so true that other people just don't get how just plain inconvenient (let alone annoying) T1 can be sometimes.

Hope you all get the week you'd want, @porl69 really hope you're properly well soon, sounds like you're having a rough time.

Good afternoon friends
Bright sunny breezy

Dentist tomorrow afternoon yikes root canal treatment I keep telling them to smash em all out and give me false gnashers

@Cumberland - if I could add extra hugs I would! Hope it all goes well for you!

Well, I’m teaching Drama and flippin’ COOKERY today hahaha. Demonstrating the cooking of muffins... oh dear.

Cookery, just like chemistry, with a bit of physics thrown in for good measure. And then the biology follows after. Can muffins be made with egg whites?
Hope you enjoy it Mel.

@Cumberland I've had root canal treatment twice, the first time was complicated.....but it didn't stop me dozing off, even without @helensaramay's gas. I just found it really boring; it takes quite a while but I'd rather have that than a tooth out any day. Hope it's that easy for you tomorrow.

@Mel dCP can't wait to hear how your cookery class went....
