Type 1'stars R Us

Afternoon all, the promised sunny day here in Somerset has been interrupted by a serious downpour, though the sun's out again now. I know it's a real thing but I'm still always surprised by the power of weather to affect people's mood, mine included.
@Becca, glad you're not worried about these tests though it doesn't alter how unacceptable the answers you've had have been.
@Antje77 looks like you found some great places, who looked after your animals while you were away?

I drove back home late yesterday night, and the weather definitely changed my mood to surprised!
It was a very clear night, I could see lots of stars even through my dirty car windows. (Yes, I do clean them but my car is parked right next to a rural road with lots of muddy tractors so they don't stay clean for more than a couple of hours.)
But about 5 times during the 30 minutes drive I drove through fog banks thick enough to feel I was driving through the clouds.
And on top of that there was lightning all the time in the north, despite it being beautifully clear where I was driving!

I'm very lucky to have my neighbour living in a trailer in my garden!
He fed everyone and even had my dogs sleeping in his bed. :joyful:
Until the summer of 2021 he lived in a chalet in the garden of my other neighbours but they needed the chalet for their children so he was evicted. And we decided the easiest solution would be for him to buy a trailer and put it in my garden. :)

It was quite the adventure getting it there too. You can't see it in the picture, but it needed to be lifted on the front and the back, so on the other side is a tractor driving backwards, with both the drivers using mobile phones to try to drive at exactly the same time as to not drop the trailer!

And this is how it looks now, painted in camouflage colours and connected to the sewer, gas and water. The smaller caravan is his 15 year old son's room, he decided he's rather live with his dad than with his mum so he moved in as well.

@Antje77 that's so cool! if you tried to do that here you'd have to go through umpteen planning issues to get permission....
Erm, well, that part of the plan isn't very well thought out...
I can put a trailer that size in my garden without a permit as long as it's only used for 'recreation'.
I can also rent my spare room to someone if I like.
So if anyone asks (Fingers crossed no-one will) he's renting a room.
Sounds good on paper but if anyone ever comes to check we're in trouble, the trailer looks very much lived in and the spare room looks like the place where you put all the stuff you don't really need on a daily base.

Chances of my local authorities following this thread are slim enough that I think I can safely post here. :hilarious:
Sounds like it benefits all of you!
And yes, it certainly does!

@Antje77 Sounds workable!

It's been raining here too. Although not at the days/hours they keep saying we are to get it lol!
Our local state weather is better than the national weather sites at predicting beforehand. Plus since we are an island with windward versus leeward sides, trades that move in when they can, the weather can really vary a lot from the north, west, east and south sides, even though it's only about 24 kilometers (15 miles) from one area to another. The north and south side have the biggest difference in rain and weather as it likes to rain on the north side quite a bit more.

When we go to the beach we are always looking at web cams to see what's it like there as it will be raining here but 3 miles toward the coast it will be sunny. The nice thing we found out is we never have to water anything except when we first plant it!

@Marie 2 weather where I live is very local. I'm close to the Mendip hills, to the north of me, and a lot of rain doesn't reach me as it falls on the Mendips. It doesn't alter the fact that I still live in a fairly wet county, though the upside of that is that it's beautifully green English countryside (apart from times this summer!)

Apparently putting up the Halloween decorations and taking them down is on par with swimming for hours. I had repeated lows for 2-3 nights. I didn't realize what was going on until about 5 in the morning the first night, so I reduced basal the next two nights........ but not by enough. And my back is still complaining.

It was a lot of fun though. To see the screeches and the jumps!...... Some go off automatically with motion or noise. Some of them like the jumping spiders, witch and scarecrow I get to set off by a button I have so I can time it perfectly and leave the little ones alone. Some of the young ones still wouldn't come near the front even in Dad's or Mom's arms, while some couldn't stop staring. One 4ish year old wanted to fight one of the witches with his rubber sword, his mom kept telling him no you can't do that. One teenager came up to the scarecrow at the front and goes I know he screams and slowly reached for the candy bag in his bowl and he screamed and she still shrieked and smacked the table. Too funny. One young boy said he knew the scarecrow screams, took the candy and laughed when it did, but then put another bag in the bowl and called his sister up. No matter how much he coaxed her she wouldn't come within 6 feet of it. She was older than him too. Two teens were jumping and screaming at one of the spiders trying to set it off and I waited for a while before I set it off because that was funny watching them. Lots of people took pictures of their young ones in front of the tombstones and lots of teens took videos.

Some kids said they purposely returned from last year. And people drove by when we were setting it up and said they were waiting for it. It was definitely worth it. Lots of fun!

Had my Covid booster on Saturday (Pfizer) and have been waiting for the high that normally eventually happens, sometimes within a short space of time, other times later on, but so far it's just kept dropping my levels. Not a problem, have had a few unexpected biscuits etc, and apart from having to watch my levels, it's felt a bit like not being diabetic for once, especially on Saturday evening, because I ate about 80g of carbs and didn't need any bolus insulin!! Going to drop Basal, and see what happens!! Happy days :)

@Hopeful34 Lol...............only us type 1's can understand the happiness of eating a bunch of food and not worrying about the immediate repercussions we usually have without prethinking what we need to do to be able to do it!

Hi everyone, hope you're all ok and somehow keeping warm, and diabetes is behaving itself. Went to the hospital for an appointment today, and it was bliss just to be in a comfortably warm environment for a short time.

It's shocking isn't it to be pleased to visit a hospital because it's warm. Freezing here in Somerset, dog walking helps me warm up even in this weather, but coming home to a cold house isn't funny.

Hope your appointment wasn't for anything serious and that all went well :)

Hi Everyone! All is well here. I am having ablation (nerve block) on Tues for my back. I've had it before and am hoping it helps the new sciatic pain? that's started in the mornings. It's weird because I can still swim and do my exercise bike, but when I first wake up for a few hours it drives me nuts.

@hh1 I remember dog walking and starting out cold and soon warming up as you walked back in Calif. I'm sure it wasn't as cold as you are having though. Stay warm guys and I hope everyone is doing good and I also agree that I hope the hospital visit was routine @Hopeful34.

Thanks @hh1 and @Marie 2 It was a DEXA scan, to monitor osteopenia. Results due in a couple of weeks.

Hope your ablation on Tuesday goes well @Marie 2 Sciatic pain is horrible, I've got it, and wish you could send some of your nerve block my way!!

@Hopeful34 I go to a specialist for my back because it's in bad shape. It's a Spine and Pain Center and they do all sorts of therapies. I hadn't heard of ablation until I started going there. My insurance covers it and I guess it's a pretty common treatment. You might ask about it.
