Type 1'stars R Us

I had an interesting day today. I left home at 7:45 am for a workday, only returning at 7:30 pm.
Upon arriving at the bridge where I work I found out I had forgotten my phone, so no access to CGM for the day.
I'm utterly spoilt, having used Libre almost from the start of my diabetes unlike many of you, so this vey much felt like flying blind even though I did have my meter.

The problem with that is that I only get a limited amount of teststrips funded, so I wanted to use as little as possible. I managed to fight the urge to randomly test all the time just because I'm so used to knowing what my bg is doing all day, and only used 2 teststrips in the end.

Now I'm wondering how other T1's deal with suddenly losing access to their CGM. For me it was mildly stressful, and I did a lot of thinking, trying to reason with myself on what range my number would likely be in and if I needed to check with a fingerprick already or not.
I also laughed at myself a lot for overthinking, and because I like to laugh at me when I do something mildly stupid like forgetting my phone.

So how do you act when you suddenly find yourself without a CGM?
(I'm on MDI by the way.)

More details and how it worked out on this thread. It's a food thread so my post is rather heavy on the food part of my day, and with that thread mostly visited by T2's the insulin decisions aren't very relevant: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-parallel-chat.177870/post-2783044
@anje77 I panic without mine. At the moment I think I've got a broken sensor. Error message to rescan, same error message and a noise I've never heard

Can someone please tell me how to reduce a hyper? Yesterday all I ate was a boiled egg and a small slice of toast. It went as high as 24 something at 3pm this morning and it's only come down to 15.
I'm not ill and have been drinking jugs of water
How are you now?

Have you done any correction doses?
I'm not sure if you're on a pump or a pen, but if pump, have you changed sites in case it's a dodgy one?

You will get more replies if you start a new thread.

Sometimes it is a hidden infection, sometimes it is sudden inactivity, sometimes it is what you ate the day before. A high fat day and I will require more insulin the next day because it causes insulin resistance. It even can be you were still making some insulin at a very low level and all of a sudden that day none.

I will take extra insulin, but I keep an eye on a crash that can happen several hours later from taking too much, especially because I will be inclined to get on my exercise bike and that's a double whammy. . Exercise is also like nitro to me, especially if it is an unfamiliar exercise. I ride my recumbent bike 10 miles everyday and I will get on it to stop from trending higher and to make the insulin I took work faster and better. But walking a short distance can make more of an impact because I am not used to it.
