Fair enough cant go till they open

That's true I prefer mine with unsweetened soya milk or black. You don't spoil good coffee

I am so fortunate in having been able to experience really high quality coffee that, served black and unsweetened, is divine and imparts its own natural sweetness on top of marvellous flavour. Unfortunately, these coffees usually have a price tag to make your eyes water! I used to only drink Nescafe Alta Rica instant coffee because no other instant coffee was palatable to me. But when 100g jars started to exceed £4 I had a rethink and got my ten year old espresso maker going again (a proper Krups pumped one but a budget model all the same) and started grinding my own espresso. I found that Sainsburys own-brand espresso coffee beans (currently £4 for two half pound (227g) bags) or even Aldi's own brand espresso beans (£1.99 for 200g) work really well although I do need to sweeten with sucralose. I found that buying already ground coffee was no good as it lost its aroma before the bag was used up. I use an excellent Porlex ceramic burr hand grinder which I was given by a good friend of mine last time I was in Japan. I try to limit myself to two cups a day (7g of beans per cup) and that makes a bag of beans last about two weeks, or about what a jar of Alta Rica would last for (probably more cups but definitely less enjoyment and more cost than the real coffee). I usually have Americanos (espresso topped up with hot water to make a bigger but less intense cup). I occasionally have a straight double espresso and if made properly I can just about drink this without sweetening. I'm saving up for a bean to cup espresso machine! :D

Not if they are doing your Hb1Ac levels which don't require fasting;-)

I read that fasting was required for blood lipid tests but the nurse said that was out of date too. She also said that venous testing of fasting blood glucose was also out of fashion. I did read that there was a concern that blood glucose levels were not stable after the blood was drawn.

It sounds disgusting and I haven't yet tried it myself but google bullet-proof coffee. Basically it's a fad whereby people put espresso coffee in a blender and wiz the coffee with either butter, coconut oil (which has the consistency of butter) or MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) oil. The latter is a refinement of coconut oil and very expensive! It's supposed to taste good and give you an energy boost if you are in ketosis as the saturated fats are quickly converted by the body into energy. It's high in calories but less likely to be deposited as fat as long as it's used up through activity compared to carbs and of course it has little effect on blood glucose.

Edit: As Nomistheman pointed out, one benefit is that it curbs hunger for a good period - much longer than when eating a similar dose of calories via carbs. However, LCHF and protein will also satisfy appetite better than carbs.
OMG:-S
Sounds like a documentary I've seen about some Asian people which churned yak butter into their tea as it was the only choice, as yak milk was scarce...
Now I'm not sure if I could bring myself into trying it...
Thanks a lot for your kind reply:-)

The Late as usual, but nevertheless, 6.2 fasting this morning, after a late supper of 2 scotch beef burgers, no buns, and handful of chunky chips. Interesting enough, 2 hours after having them, I had a 6.0 reading;-)

Hi all. Haven't been here for a while. Was getting levels In 6s few weeks ago. Then like,a bolt from the blue was diagnosed with cancer. Had a big operation 6 weeks, ago and have taken that long to start feeling ok again. Have not been low carbing but havn't gone mad. Level this morning was over 12. Need a bit of encouragement to get back to it. Any help gratefully received.

That must have been a tremendous shock for you. Well done on remaining sensible with your nutrition,
I'm certain that eating really good food and looking after yourself as kindly as possible is the way to go.
Best of luck with your recovery. Look forward to reading your posts.
<<<<< encouraging hugs and warm wishes>>>>>

Quick update as I checked at 12 am and read a surprise of 4.8:-o
Never had such low value. An hour before, I had a bad headache, but can not decide if it's the Nitrofurantoin, or low sugar levels...:-/
Any ideas, pretty please?

Currently on the same antibiotic as you and no headaches at all. 4.8 is not really a low sugar level either - nicely normal really.
