Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Well i have to lose weight as well as keeping my blood sugar down......wasnt told anything by the diet nurse only to eat sensibly. it went up to 9.7 last night, felt bad, my fault as i ate what i shouldnt have........totaled 120 carbs yesterday. So i guess it was too much. Will do better today.
It could help you to keep a food diary. Perhaps you need to weigh your portions and keep.a record of how this affects your weight. There are a number of spreadsheet available and apps for this. Or the old fashioned way still works !.

I can see where i have made some mistakes. Due to keeping a food diary of what i eat, weight, calories, fat and carbs app on my phone. So from today i hope to see a change.......fingers crossed.

5g of carbohydrates per 100g is the target. Not always achievable in fact it's hard to do. Always read the label and keep as low as you can.. some on here only have 50g carbohydrate a day. I aim for around 100ish but not anal about it. Depends on my meter reading before I eat.

Personally, I don't use a target range of carb per 100g as it just seems a bit too rigid and potentially unhelpful to me. I tend to think about what it is I am considering eating and as well as the amount for 100g, I consider how much of that foodstuff/drink I would actually be consuming. An example might be considering a condiment that might be 30g per 100g, but in reality, if I am considering consuming a teaspoonful of that substance, within the context of a meal, it's going to be so much less than the 30g headline amount. If those couple of carbs would impact in the enjoyment of my meal, I would have it.

A nice even 4.0 for me today.

This morning when I was doing some work, I happened to meander to my recent couple of lots of 24 hour testing, and had a look through those numbers, in the context of my recent 6.8. During those 48 hours (which I recorded separately to my usual, run-of-the-mill testing as the intensity had too much chance of mucking up my averages), my highest reading of all was a 6.2, so who knows what was going on the other night, but it’s history now. Even if it really irritate and rattled me a bit.

Other than that, it’s turning into a busy period here for us at the moment; trying to get the house ready for winter, then another period when we will both be away. We’re trying to get as much of the outside stuff done as we can before the weather gets too extreme, for us at least. Oh boy, does the temperature plummet in the later afternoons.

No matter. It has to be done, and when we’re back in the sunshine it will all have been worth it.

Play nicely boys and girls.

Entirely agree.:)

Hope you get over your cold soon.

I spent a long time at the health club last night, not exercising this time but sweating away in the steam room and sauna and this seems to have done the trick.

It actually reminded me of when I was little and had a cold. My grandmother used to boil eucalyptus leaves in a pan placed on a heater in my room and let the steam & eucalyptus scented vapor fill the room.

Maybe she knew what she was doing!

@ Mike D as eucalyptus trees come from Down Under, any similar experiences or is this use just a Cyprus thing?

Hi Pavlos

Nope, you're right .... it's still used today for that purpose and many others. Here's a sample of what it's used for :)

Asthma
During an asthma attack, massage 1-2 drops over the chest. Also, inhale the aroma directly or diffuse in the air.

Bronchitis
Use topically or aromatically, massaging into the chest, back and throat, inhaling from the bottle, or dropping the oil on the shirt collar.

Congestion
Eucalyptus oil uses included clearly congestion from the airways. I recommend inhaling for nasal congestion and massaging the oil over all other affected areas.

Cooling
Yes, eucalyptus oil uses even include cooling the body down. Place several drops in a spray bottle, along with peppermint oil if you'd like some extra oomph, and spritz over the body.

Coughs
Diffuse throughout the room throughout the span of the illness, but also massage into the reflex points of the feet (follow the application guidelines in the link above), as well as over the chest, back, and throat.

Diabetes
Because of the vasodilation mention above, using eucalyptus on a daily basis can increase circulation, a common issue for diabetics. I recommend massaging it into the body with lotion after each shower, as the massage will also help increase circulation.

Fever
Because eucalyptus oil uses include cooling the body (above), using during a high fever can help the body regulate its temperature and support its efforts in fighting infection.

Flu
Depending on your flu symptoms, eucalyptus oil uses will vary. You can apply to the abdomen to ease diarrhea, massage into aching joints and muscles, or simply diffuse through the air to fight infection.

Hypoglycemia
Another of eucalyptus oil uses, you can help regulate your blood sugar by massaging 1-2 drops into the soles of the feet daily.

Neuralgia
Another of the little-known eucalyptus oil uses, massaging into the areas of concern daily can reduce pain.

Neuritis
Along with neuralgia, massage several drops into the reflex points of the feet and over the affected areas can reduce inflammation.

Overexercised Muscles
Strain, fatigue, etc can all be treated with a gentle massage of eucalyptus oil. Always massage toward the heart to move the lactic acid buildup through the lymphatic system.

Heck, it can even get stains out of carpet :)

I should have added one more sobering fact about eucalyptus .... the trees in particular.

When 120 people were killed in our Victorian bushfires in 2009, the oil in the leaves of the gum trees exploded when each caught fire and effectively raced across the forest treetops in the bush areas far faster than anyone could imagine.

They're also called widow makers as they can often split when you least expect it and take out a forest worker, a bushwalker, even a car.

They smell great, that's for sure ... especially in summer ... but boy, they're dangerous. Throw a match on a pile of fallen dried out leaves and then take a quick step back.

Thanks @ Mike for the eucalyptus tips will deafinatly try the flu and Asthma ones. Bungged up and can't keep on with the runny eyes

Are you on a statin at all. One of the adverse side effects can be cramps. If so you should ask to be swapped to a different statin that suits you better.
Not on statin. I need to increase salt intake, it was half what myfitness pal said it should be, but not sure how right now.

5,3 on this rather grey looking morning

Still warm enough to walk outside in a tee shirt though

Have a great day

Nothing over 8.0 for the last 6 days. Most under 7.0

Well done Connie :) MIKE

Eucalyptus trees are getting to be quite rare in Nicosia, they grow too big for most people's rather small gardens.

Lots of acacias though, which I understand also originated from Australia.

I am in the middle of my walk as I write and just walked past one.

Yep, you're right on that too but they are (can be) a weed :) Hate them.

I must send you a photo of my neighbors gums ... at least 80 foot high x 3 of them and they're only 100 feet away from my house !!!

Thank heavens for insurance Pavlos

Great day brother !!

Mike

5.0 this morning, so up a little. Was this anything to do with giving blood yesterday? I shouldn't think so. Just out of interest I was 4.5 and blood pressure 112/68 before donation and 4.2 with 107/68 blood pressure when I got back.
