Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Thought they were one of the "good guys" I've found my fasting seems to be best after "naughty" foods night before. Two mince pies (soya pastry)with cream plus go-ahead strawberry yoghurt break - both slices before bed. Neither of which spike me on their own. Several handfuls of a sweet cereal when dog got me up at 2am...... Liver must "help" me out overnight when I've been good ;-)

I'm sure blackberries are the good guys, just not when you eat a large punnet :-)
I wouldn't dare eat any pastries - my liver doesn't like me and would make me suffer the consequences!

If you've not used it before the pastry if very rich and delicate. Half fat to flour was too much, even 1/4 butter was still rich to roll. Next time will use circles of pastry on flat tray with 2nd one over top and crimp edges as was nigh impossible not to break them getting them out.
Thanks for the tip. :-)

Hi Guys just an idea for all making mince pies. I am gluten free and dairy free. I find using xanthan gum in baking helps hold pastry together both before and after cooking. You can get it in sainsburys or Holland and barrett its a natural binder.:)

I'll try with egg. I'm OK on dairy & gluten. Feel sry for those that aren't.

Fasting was 6.9 and pre-dinner 7.2 so not so bad for me. Btw blackberries mmmm

Vit90 - I would urge you to pay less attention to the actual number and more to the trends your readings/numbers show. Yes, I know we all like nice low numbers, but being happy with an increasing bunch of 5s or 6s (purely as an example isn't going to be doing ourselves any favours.

After a short while, you will be able to reconcile yourself that your numbers are heading in the right direction/stable or needing further attention. I have mental ranges for fasting and all my meal, and to be honest, provided a reading is within that range, I don't retest. I lived for a period of month with a limited supply of strips (I was abroad with no access to topping up supplies), so had to steel myself to strictly managing my testing regime and retests, and to be honest, I think it did me a favour.

Thanks for the reassurance - it's much appreciated. Went to a work event today only to be surprised by a Christmas dinner laid out. I did have a couple of glasses of red wine plus the turkey, sprouts and carrots (and a couple of pigs in blankets) but only had a tiny piece of parsnip and the roast potatoes were untouched (had to explain why to some of my colleagues). Had half a teaspoon of the pudding which looked very nice but it was clearly far too sweet.

Balanced this by walking to and from the local train station (3 miles in total) and being on my feet outside for much of the day, not to mention slogging through the London rail and Tube system. Only had 200 calories before lunch and no supper required this evening.

I think part of my testing problem is pathetic blood droplets so am going to try harder on that front tomorrow!

Me too Mike... I had a couple of low readings in the beginning.. but it doesn't seem to matter what I go to bed on.. I see to rise on a rise lol and then it spends all day lowering :)

Yep ..... walking the same path here :) Good luck Kez :)

This was exactly what my GP said to me yesterday - he even drew me a graph, showing me where I was and how everything beneath it was unsafe and too low. I haven't wanted to say too much here as I know some folk have purposely low targets or naturally low bs but it does seem to be the general medical belief that too low bs have as much risk of complications as high ones. :( Interesting we should both have encountered this theory within 24 hours

Make that three of us .My Endo told me to aim for 6 and no lower last week.Just as Allie was told .I was told new studies show it's as harmful to be too low as too high .Chance would be a fine thing but I was getting the pep talk before starting my Insulin.

I think insulin users are different because of the threat of hypos.

Well I have been naughty tonight. We had a Chicken Byryani and yoghurt followed by Apple Crumble. It just felt sO right....like a blooming teenage romance. But seemingly no consequences......
Just look at the numbers;
6.5 pre dinner 7.0 2 hours later
After Apple Crumble and custard 1.5 hours later 6.5
I don't understand it but maybe just maybe something functioning a bit better.
