To date GP's with uncaring attitudes, whom think they are diabetic consultants.
I am really sorry, but was this on 16/11/2008, if so then I did not really do anything beneficial for all diabetics, but it would explain why there was a free roadshow on heart awareness offering free cholesterol and bmi checks, bmi checks etc. I went to that.

Nobody told me about it. How are we celebrating?

My choir was singing at Hounslow's "Finding a Voice" festival yesterday, at the Waterman's Theatre, Brentford. We (Caroliners) were billed as the famous over-50s choir :D There were stands covering all aspects of older peoples' needs, including diabetes.

I led the choir off the stage - all black curtains - first into a cupboard, then into the lift. It took about 5 minutes to get back to the dressing room :(

Tonight I'm going to Gilbert & Sullivan's "Gondoliers." Members of my tennis club are singing, though not me.

As a result of it not being published anywhere in the public eye i completely forgot about it!!

i almost feel ashamed!

Why wont they give us the same level of advertising as say aids awareness... ???

Mills and Boon books, hip hop music, New Labour.
World Diabetes Day made it onto the national news, I watched it on the BBC and it was on their website as well. We also had it mentioned in the local press.

I'm a member of the local DUK group and we set up a stand at a local venue with help from one of the DSN's and one of the Diabetes educators, we handed out information packs, offered blood glucose tests and a group walked through town handing out leaflets.

You can see some pictures and a post on the groups website/blog which is here.

People that feel just because diabates is a life-threatening "illness" it should be treated with kid gloves and nobody is allowed to have a laugh. My humour got me through abuse, near death experiences, serious and debilitating illnesses and lifelong pain and deformity - why give up the thing that works??
*** ooooops ***

the shame

I totally forgot / didn't know

I probably knew really but still totally forgot. Just like I forget National Vegetarian Week every year.

I suppose because I never buy a newspaper I don't see these things.

ERM

I went out on a very rare night out and drank a few vodkas :) that's what I did on Friday anyhow :)

Woke feeling fine with good BGs :)

I went to a retirement party, I damned well nearly died from second hand fag smoke, and I also experienced a fire alarm going off in a room full of off duty firemen.

So... not much really.
