Hi, my blood sugars are very high my cholesterol is also very high I just don't know what diet to follow my doctor has increased my tablets which are making me feel unwell. In the passed I have followed the old Atkins diet and I lost weight as I know starch sugar are no good for me but my cholesterol didn't drop as I thought it might. I can't take statins. I would like to follow the Lchf diet but I'm worried about the cholesterol levels as my trycerides sorry about the spelling are very high. I would like to find a specialist in my area who can help me over come and get to the bottom of why I have these Heath issues. I can't mention lchf or any diet similar to my doctor she will not listen. I think they don't know what to do with me. there must be a specialist out there who can help. I can't just keep having the meds increased.

In my experience, low carbing is the only way that you will, lose weight, reduce your BP, reduce your fatty liver, kidneys, liver function and eventually your cholesterol.
Cholesterol will follow behind the others, as you reduce your weight the better your body copes with your intake.
I lost a lot of weight and since starting low carb, my life signs including cholesterol have dropped to normal levels.
After nearly 15 years of dieting, before low carb, I steadily increased weight and I was very ill.

Low carb is the best there is!

Low carb all the way

I wasted nearly six years faffing about with medication and insulin before I gave low carb a go. Getting great results with my blood sugars with no medication.

It means accepting a new relationship with food but I find it's worth it.

Have a look at the Newcastle Diet. It's extreme and tough but I did it for a long time and lost four and a half stone then went onto a healthy low carb diet.

Plenty of info on the main site here. Do some research.

I do take statins and my last cholesterol was 3.8 :)

Good luck

Jim

Hi. A low carb diet may not reduce your cholesterol by much or at all but it should give you improved LDL/HDL ratios which is what matters most.

I'm sure there's more.
I'm a LCHF man and my health has improved dramatically.
The high fat bit is a little misleading.
I have full fat products as opposed to semi skimmed skimmed low fat no fat products .... yoghurt cream butter pork scratching coconut oil olive oil oily fish nuts.
My blood pressure is down as is the medication.
My weight is down and stable.
My blood sugars are under amazing control.
My cholesterol isn't quite where it should be yet but each test shows it is slowly headed in the right direction .... no statins.
I think others also see their cholesterol as the catchup one.
It takes longer to get healthy but get healthy it can.
Remember we're all different so what works for me might not work for you but the LCHF way of life seems pretty big on here and with great results.

I also drink green tea with fresh lemon juice.
I don't consider it fresh out of a plastic lemon or bottle.
I have coconut oil a lot too.
I'm convinced that they help my health.

Thank you all for replying it's been a great help and I'm more confident to go ahead with the diet. I will see my doctor, hopefully she can go on to this site. I've already started to restrict the carbs. Xx

your triglycerides are being raised high due to your high glucose levels. Try low carb for 6 months and see how that goes. Do not expect immediate improvements although you may see them.
