"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Hello all. I'm at home for Christmas after all. My daughter-in-law has gone down with a very nasty flu bug so Christmas with them is out of the question. She is never ill so this is a real surprise, I have never known her to stay in bed and sleep all day ever. I have a lamb shank for my dinner but am not feeling like I want it so am going to have some scrambled eggs instead and have the shank for tomorrow. I must admit to having 2 mince piesbecause I was a bit fed up. Hopefully back on the wagon. Happy New Year everybody. :)
Hugs for both you and your daughter in law. What a shame for it to happen at Christmas. You deserve to spoil yourself a little with the 2 mince pies. I hope she feels better soon.

Wishing everyone on here a Merry Christmas, even though its officially over now as past midnight!

A long food filled day here.
Up at 7 to deal with the turkey.
Had a couple of scrambled eggs in the hope they'd keep me from snacking too much.
Then we opened presents and had a few that were low(ish) carb so soem chocolate covered almonds fell into my mouth.
A few crisps later.
L: starter of smoked mackerel, turkey main (all low carb except the stuffing, no pots or Yorkshires) lc tiramisu pudding with 2 bites of Christmas pudding.
Wine.
Bg surprisingly well behaved.

Evening, more tiramisu, some rum.

Very late 2 pigs in blankets and cold turkey, more chocolate almonds

Hi all, hope everyone had a lovely Christmas day, or other festival/holiday if you don't celebrate it, I have had a lovely quiet time and already planning a healthier New Year. I haven't controlled my diet very well, and I am also very good at understatement :hilarious:

I have a close relative's 95th in a few days, we're all going to a celebratory meal at a restaurant so I'm really looking forward to that.

Lots of love to you all xx

Salmon mayo for breakfast.

2nd meal will be a steak, cut off of the chunk of beef, with some onions. I roasted the beef so that the ends were rare, which is the way I like it, with the result that the middle was actually not completely raw, but not really cooked. So I cut if off of the bone and then cut the remainder into thick steaks which will be seared when I come to finish them. One today and 6 more in the freezer.

There's still cauliflower cheese and some broccoli left to use as well. The broccoli will probably be resurrected as soup - I have some chicken poaching at present and that will make enough stock to make chicken and broccoli soup, with a few bits added.

There's also some very rich beef stock/jelly from the bones and quite a lot of beef dripping. Bread or toast and dripping used to be a treat when we were young since we didn't have much of the kind of meat you could get dripping from. I think I'll give that a miss though.

I didn't eat anything until about 5 pm on Christmas day and then just a dessertspoon of cauliflower cheese and a couple of florets of broccoli with 2 thin slices of the beef. That was enough to last me until quite late yesterday when I had a little more of the beef while I was cutting the chunk into steaks. Then a couple of RyVita with cream cheese. BG stayed in the 8's all day yesterday for some reason best known only to my liver and/or pancreas.

Agree. it's good to remember, even though sad. Doesn't seem like 2 years somehow.

I hope you all enjoy that turkey and that you, and your family (including the prospective butcher) have a very happy Christmas.
It certainly does not seem like two years. I was also thinking about Goonergal today. Another sad loss.

Weighed myself, not good! How can I put on more than the weight of carbs eaten?

A walk
L: cold turkey and salami. Coleslaw. Piece of cake
D: Christmas hash of cold meats, leftover veg fried with the fats from the shwarma lamb. Last of the lc tiramusu. Red wine.

Did manage to pass on unwanted gift biscuits and sweets to a passing nephew!

Hi everybody. I spent Boxing day with my family. My DIL h a 24 hour bug then my son went down with it and I came home! It's certainly been a Christmas to remember altho not for the right reasons! My DIL's mum is now in hospital with dehydration. She is having chemo and it's affecting her ability to eat and drink so for a while, she is on a drip. I'm looking forward to the New Year, it has to be better than Christmas! I wish all my friends on this Forum a Very Happy and Healthy 2025. xx

OK, Christmas Day, I was making dinner as usual

B. TAG and that was it.

L. Nothing

D. Started with the fish dish I'd been experimenting with. I'd rolled fillets of sole and cooked and served with a very large prawn, in a sauce of white wine, a touch of cream, diced shallot, samphire, and green grapes. I'd also cooked GF calamari and GF suppli for the boys.

Main: usual turkey, home made stuffing balls and chipolatas (all low carb and GF), roast potatoes, carrots glazed in citrus butted, honey/mustard parsnips and stir fried sprouts with pancetta. I did have my usual campari and soda and a mouthful of white wine.

I'd made dessert for everyone else. A GF chocolate Sponge with vegan ice cream, or low carb creme brulee with raspberries, or cheese and biscuits.

I didn't eat that much. I'd been feeling "off" for about 3 days. I'd been feeling nauseous, but later on I discovered it was norovirus that was lurking.

Boxing Day

I'd consumed a lot of water and was feeling less wobbly.

B. A black weak tea.

L. Finally started to feel hungry. A SRSLY sandwich with turkey breast and mayo.

D. A turkey dinner repeat, just sprouts for veg. Later on I had a LC creme brulee with raspberries.

27 December

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with a double yolk egg, chipolatas, and stuffing balls

L. Nothing. Had to brave the shops to get a few bits and bobs.

D. The remaining turkey, stuffing and chipolatas became a casserole in a mushroom sauce with pastry cooked separately for the pastry eaters. I did have a small piece of grandson's GF pastry. Sprouts again.

Another LC creme brulee and raspberries.

I'm glad to say I'm fully recovered today (28/12). I feel for your family @RosemaryJackson. I felt originally as if it was a cold starting, then as if all the energy had been sucked out of me. I was very cold despite the house being warm and once it kicked in I could barely walk as it always attacks my messed up nervous system. Thankfully, it didn't last. 20241227_113655.jpg

I should have added that the dalmatian is the new addition to son's household. As you know, their leonberger died recently, which left a huge gap. DIL is heavily involved in rehoming animals, and the dalmatian kept appearing in her inbox. He's been adopted. His owner had died. He's 6 and you'd think he'd always lived with him. Very much a match meant to be!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas although looks like lots of bugs around and hope all affected are feeling better. We had a lovely family Christmas only a few of us - we are a small family - but had a lovely relaxed days.
Stayed broadly low carb but a few extra treats such as a roast potato, roast parsnip and spoon of bread sauce with my Christmas lunch plus too many nuts over the holiday. I definitely have grown to like my new festive tipple of brandy and soda water and have also added splashes of brandy to my low carb version s of Christmas pudding and mince pies -_purchased from Deliciously Guilt Free - delicious especially when served with extra thick double cream.
Difficult day for me today though filled with so many memories on what would have been my special mums 94th birthday. Third Christmas and birthday without her and still difficult. Still she always liked a party and a tipple so will raise a glass to her this evening.

Today was a "halfway meet" in a pub, 2 hours driving east for them and 2 hours west for us and this time it worked perfectly. An hours walk before a late lunch at a pub meant I could be OMAD today. A rather splendid eggs bendict on very good local ham and "bubble and squeak". Loads of hollandaise. 2 white wine. Chocolate covered almonds on the journey home.

Home this evening for a coffee rum/Baileys mix but no food.

Bg nicely level all day, except that level is 7, ho hum.
