hi everyone need to get this off my chest.... apologise in advance for the ramp.....
I seriously can not believe it so still hadn't heard back from the diabetic clinic so telephoned again this afternoon and explained how I have left numerous messages but no one has called me back. The receptionist was like "will are you a patient of us? "have you left messages? so being calm as I could replied. "ah Yes I am and yes I have" .... finally she put me through to my diabetic educator who apologised saying "yes I meant to ring you yesterday but I forgot" and me being gracious accepted her apology and saying I know your busy I understand... even so I was really annoyed/upset with her.
So basically she told me whilst on prednisone I really should be on insulin but because I don't have any that I can take up to 120mg of diamcron daily so to increase my diamcron to 120mg SR at breakfast tomorrow and see how that goes and today as I have already taken my 60mr with breakfast to take 60mr with my next meal today then start the 120mg sr tomorrow. she said it may take a while to get into my symptoms like a few days so just to monitor. I asked if I have any other issues can I contact her she replied well their is nothing else she can do you should really be on insulin whilst on prednisone so not much more can do as I don'tt have any insulin to take unless I get a prescription for some from my GP so for only 4 more weeks of steroids I am hoping that the extra dose works. she certainly was feeling guilty as she kept apologising for not calling me back and said "I should of called and truly sorry not calling me back! so she should I say! ... she understood my concern and frustration about no one calling back and continuously apologised!!
she also explained that the nurses in the hospital don't understand and that they do not recognise BSL as being high as it is the steroids and that they should of listened to me when I kept staying it is high and that they should of consulted with the diabetic doctors and put me on insulin.. she also explained they were using the principle that anything below 10 or a tad over is classified as normal, and don't actually understand that being on steroids need a different approach to control my BSL.
I guess it is a lesson learnt for me also that I need to be more forceful about this and if for any reason I have to go back on the steroids (after this course) I will be advising them to consult with my diabetic doctor/clinic and explained I am usually put on insulin
.... ok so I got it of my chest thanks for reading and have a great day.
Which recipe are you doing, @Chook ? This one, or the Diet Doc? https://www.ditchthecarbs.com/slow-cooker-low-carb-mulled-wine/
I am seriously tempted but can't get the kind of cheese here that would make it really useful. What I really want is little oblong pans (about 2" x 5" or thereabouts) to make steamed burgers and steamed cheese, which I saw demonstrated on a food programme yesterday. Looked really interesting, but I think they were purpose built and not available on the market. I will keep trying to work out something though. I don't enjoy burgers done in oven, pan or microwave and I suspect the AF has nothing to offer me in this regard.
How about little loaf tins? Would they be suitable? You can get them on eBay.
. @ianpspurs good luck with the move and planning the party for MIL. Is a cheese curler one of those things you see folk on tv plunging into big wheels of stiltons or cheddars to sample the batch?.
Thank you. Its nothing like what I expected but quite intriguing and costly. The dish is chicken with chorizo, red pepper, tinned tommies and paprika. Its a made up by me dish probably started out as a scratch supper.View attachment 37291

Out of interest, what makes that chicken dish Spanish as opposed to any other nation?

Didn't see that cheese but one may appear. This is on order https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/party-five-tier-cheese-cake/655019-676397-676397 - the boys like a bit of cheese. I was talked out of the raclette and heater https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/raclette-and-heater/877110-701880-701881Did you get the cheese too? It looks fab, Ive always tried to cut my cheese into wafer thin slices, it does somehow taste better. I couldn’t possibly justify the price but oh how I envy you your Christmas curled cheese.

Ann glad the scan went well. Its horrible to be so cold but I think layers are probably the answer. Also cuddling a hot water bottle is good.I put about 700 ml of the cauliflower soup into the freezer last night, which left a small bowl for today. This afternoon I added some double cream to it and had that, about 2.30. I have some braised lamb and butternut squash out of the freezer for later tonight.
Had to go to Stornoway for a US scan of my liver (6 monthly check) first thing this morning. So I could only have hot water before I went, but it was such a cold morning and I couldn't get warm. It didn't help that Neil went out to defrost the car and it refused to start! Luckily he has a sort of gadget that puts an extra surge through the battery (plugs in to the external power supply that he also put in) and it got it going. We actually left with time in hand to get to the hospital but ran into lots of traffic and ended up 5 minutes late. Straight in though and back out in about 20 minutes. Radiologist says there's no deterioration since last scan, so that's good. Did a little bit of shopping and then home. I was so cold. I had been wearing light clothes to make it easier to be scanned so I changed into thicker, warmer clothes and put on my big knitted poncho which my DIL made for me and had some hot tea. Took me about 3 hours to get warm.

Breakfast: 2x CWC, nut granola, 2 eggs scrambled with cheese.
Coffee and biscuits
Lunch BG 5.7
bread. Delicious country style seeded loaf. Far too much of it. No idea of weight but imagine a baguette cut on a 45 degree angle, about 1 cm thick. So actually not a huge amount. But much more than usual. Three slices with butter, chicken, tomato and cucumber. Chunks of cheese, really just an excuse to have more bread and cup of tea.

Dinner was late, very tempted to start on wine before, had tea instead. BG 5.2
Dinner chicken leg casserole, with leeks, mushrooms, carrot potato and brocolli. Only one small piece of potato in my portion. Rosé wine, nice dry one. Second glass. And third.

Was wanting sweet stuff. No chocolate in the house, had yoghurt strawberries and cream, then biscuits. How do others resist? Do tell.
Have kept tight control on carbs for couple of weeks. There was chance of going to UK before Xmas and was thinking to get HbA1c done. That is now def not happening and my motivation and mood are lowered as a result. See confessions of a carb addict above
.
The men took out the big beam today. Bit nerve-wracking watching MrSlim chainsaw the beam that has held the house together and the roof up for around 600 years.
Will try and post pic.
The semi-wild cat that has haunted my doorstep for weeks took off in a huff at the arrival of yet more strangers. She seemed ok with one. Hid, of course, emerged soon after he left. But two vans and three men that was too much. She hasn't been seen at all tonight.
Too much wine and carbs today.
Now Making tea and going to bed. Hoping for a night sleep, but seem to have hit a stress waking patch. With its normal corresponding tendency for night time snacks. Blaming impending Xmas.
