What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

You don't want to know what I ate yesterday - Or rather I don't want to tell you all. Suffice to say that breakfast and lunch were ok, normal, but all fell apart with the afternoon and evening turning into a total carb blowout.
FBG this morning 6.2

@Chook does your BG react to stress? Several days fasting is not exactly relaxing.
@zauberflote Have the same problem with carby items reappearing in the house, along with MrSlim. My willpower appears to have diminished while he was away. Croissants and bread smell amazing, not so bothered about icecream or biscuits and cakes. But MrSlim will have to put up with varieties of both that are unappealing to me. After yesterdays massive failure that is probably the best way forward.
Time to face the day, massive clear up of builders dust and mess first.

Woohoo - today is the last day of this 4 day fast and I keep fantasizing about eating all the food you are all posting about. Yes, even @Goonergal 's meat feast looks stunning!

@zauberflote Mmmmm mozzarella... I could almost taste it!

@SlimLizzy - I hadn't thought of that! You are probably right. I know my BP goes up when I don't sleep well or am worried about some but I hadn't thought that fasting might have the same affect.

@SlimLizzy and @zauberflote - I have got a cupboard full of husband carbs... I just try not to look but, to give him credit, he does normally eat them when I'm not around. We are both ex-smokers so he understands cravings.I

@Antje77 - no shortage of marmite in this area either.


FBG: 6.1 - I actually got a 5.4 late afternoon yesterday but my liver didn't like it so it gave me a dawn phenomenon type boost and the test 2 hours after the 5.4 was 7.2 where it stayed until bedtime!! So frustrating.

Weight: down another 2lbs making a total of 9lbs so far (mainly water weight I think)

Blood pressure: down to normal level (I will keep an eye on it though)

Mood: surprisingly good - a very 'hangry' spell at what would have been dinner time yesterday but that had a lot to do with a takeaway deliver driver who was trying to deliver a pizza and a bag full of other goodies to me (meant for my neighbour). This morning, though, it helps knowing I've only got to get through today.

The dizzy spells have subsidised thanks to the pinch of pink salt in every drink.

BG last night - 17.5 (I'd had a couple of biscuits with some coffee, fairly late on).
FBG 12.5 - I had put the new insulin up by 2 points last night, but it wasn't enough to bring BG down to a good level. Then again, I slept in so checked FBG quite late.

Breakfast about 11 am - 2 eggs scrambled with a tiny amount of butter and a little milk, rather than cream. Also upped the insulin by 2 points - the pen that it comes in only adjusts in 2 points at a time.

I've taken a little tray of mixed fish (meant for fish pie) out of the freezer, so will have to make the "bouillabaisse" that I plan, even if I don't eat it today. Still feeling quite hungry after the eggs but hope that will fade before long. More drinks might help.

Neil will go shopping for me today and I've put cottage cheese on the list, which is lower fat than cheddar or suchlike. Would very much like to be able to go with him, but no point because our supermarkets no longer have trolleys to fit to wheelchairs and I would just have to sit outside and wait.

@SlimLizzy our situations are different-- you say goodbye to Mr S for months at a time, whereas Mr Z has been home from the office daily. Only now the office is just upstairs! Also, I think he is trying out "being around the house all day when he finally retires in a couple of years at 70". Impossible to change his eating habits. More will power on my part needed.
@Chook it's 10:00am here so perhaps you are eating now-- way to go girl!!! So sorry the BGs just aren't cooperating! My husband carbs are standing in for the stuff they kept at the office, I think. The absolute worst has been when I bake (#covidbaking of course) and just cannot keep my fingers out of the batter/dough. Store bought cookies are not as much of a problem, but homemade tastes like childhood, you know?
@Annb snap! I put cottage cheese, 2%, on the list for my son to shop. Breakstone continues to make the best of what's available to me. I haven't been in a grocery store since early March!-- good thing my son works at the one I usually shop at!
Last night's grilled salmon was a disappointment. It had sat in the freezer far too long I think. OTOH the grill behaved beautifully on its maiden voyage (a Father's Day present), and the zucchini were very good.
Today hopes to be:
Bfast (already ate) avocado, boiled egg, pecans/avo oil, flax crisps in the car on way to watching g'son.
Lunch? There are olives here, might remove the raw garlic and have a few.

Supper zucchini or spinach or both. My digestion is missing two days' worth of spinach, which acts as my regularity prompter lol. Leftover salmon, maybe with mayo, and flax crisps. Possibly peanut butter, but it would be best not of course.

Evening all. Haven’t managed to post fir a few days as we have the grandchildren staying to give eldest daughter a rest. She’s had a bit of a breakdown so its a very difficult time for all.
Today I had h/m mackerel pate for lunch with celery sticks then acDGF peanut butter brownie ( part of the enormous order I placed when fasting!)
Evening meal was Ethiopian Doro Wat soup https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/ethiopian-spicy-doro-wat-soup unusual and completely delicious and not a drop of cream or cream cheese in sight. It starts by cooking an onion, coconut oil and spices in the slow cooker overnight! They were caramelised and pretty much melted by this morning - smelled wonderful. A bit of cheddar and glass of red afterwards.
@Chook well done I can’t believe you’ve done it, and still kept posting here in spite of all the delicious menus. Sorry that BG hasn’t come down as much as you’d have liked though. Not surprised at your one bout of hangriness.
@maglil55 great news that you’ve kept the weight off all this time. I’m sort of loosely following the latest DD meal plan for slow cooked/ IP meals this week. Would thoroughly recommend tonight’s soup.
Now to catch up properly on the last few days....

Brunch - f/f greek yoghurt with mixed berries, cinnamon and a little double cream drizzled over the top. earl grey tea with even more watered down cream which tastes ok.

Dinner - Peppered roast beef with cauliflower and broccoli cheese. 4 squares of montezuma's absolute black with almonds washed down with earl grey and watered down double cream.

@Chook the BP rise could possibly be because of the increase in salt.

@DJC3 If it is not one thing it is another at the moment and I bet the grandchildren keep you on your toes

@zauberflote I am missing the better weather already - rain again today but .... I think it is to be nice and dry over the weekend so not all doom and gloom

I had cottage cheese on my shopping list today, but the supermarket didn't have any. I had asked, previously, for some lactofree brie because I had tried a little and preferred it to ordinary brie. Neil couldn't get the lactofree one but brought home the full fat, ordinary brie. Shan't be using it meantime, but maybe in time.

Stomach stayed OK most of the day and I just had my bouillabaise. Enjoyed that even though some of the fish was a bit overcooked (some of the bits were very small and didn't need as much cooking as the larger bits).

@DJC3 I am so sorry about your daughter. I know when you folks say "a bit of a", that you really mean in might have been pretty bad. I hope things smooth out for her very soon!
I have tried every which way, and can't find that soup recipe on the DD website. Anything with a caramelized onion has to be good!

@DJC3 - I wondered where you were. I hope things smooth out soon. As I well know it is very tiring coping with issues and grandchildren. @Mrs T 123 - I'm in Scotland too and I agree, it's been lousy weather lately. I couldn't believe it when the central heating switched itself on the other night as it dropped under the minimum temperature.
I finally got an invitation today for my diabetic review - remotely, over the telephone?? Going to phone up to ask what about bloods etc?

D. Since I've been raiding the freezer I took one of my many portions of the Italian tripe out. Did I mention Morrisons got it in again and I bought it all again. Butcher said when they checked the shelves and it had all gone the reordered it. Should I have told them it was me clearing the shelves of tripe? Hubby found it amusing.
1 Lotus biscuit and 2 squares of Godiva.

Having had a couple of weeks feeling pretty normal I've succumbed to vertigo and my sinuses are gone again. The vertigo is down to my ears so if they clear I should be OK. I'm fine until I go to bed so I have to get in and out very carefully and turn very carefully too. Back to the steam treatment.

Oh @DJC3 - I've had another win with GOLD radio this time. It's one of these speaker things that you can link various devices to for music. Hubby said it is certainly a step up from all the Spam stuff but I rather like my Spam collection (especially the giant egg slicer thing).

I had my stitches out of my feet today! Hurray! All healing nicely
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and peanut phd bar
Late Lunch: pork scratchings followed by Greek yoghurt, raspberries and vanilla and raspberry LC granola.
Dinner: Cheese and cherry tomato omelette followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola

Brunch of scrambled egg and a few baked beans
Then tried baking session using sweetener for the first time as staying with a friend whose birthday it is. Some shortbread type biscuits and a coffee cake. Latter I made just a third of the recipe as concerned I wouldn't be able to resist . So mid afternoon couple of the biscuits and a piece cake, . Biscuits did taste buttery and nutty and coconutty, not much like shortbread but still very tasty. Cake took ages to cook and thought it would be dense but was OK. Again could feel the ground almonds so not quite the texture of a normal cake
D was salmon with buttered cheesy leeks and cabbage followed by more biscuits and cake and 2 glasses wine

Surprisingly bg 2 hours after had gone down 1 after a day of rich and calorific food.

Oh, and friend had bought Cheesies...but I didnt like them . I thought there was a bit of a sour or tangy after taste

yesterday was a v high protein day (eggs, bacon and then assorted meats esp steak). Slept extremely well and didn’t think about food until 3pm today, at which point:

L: lamb ribs
D: pork shoulder steaks in prune and cream sauce.

goodness, it has been years since I made this (on account of 5g carb/prune). However, Mr B has been positively heroic the last couple of weeks, dog sitting etc. etc. while I gad about the country visiting friends and family. And the pork/prune/cream thing is a firm fave of his. Would also have used white wine, but Not with his shift patterns this week.

Dogs happy to have the pack back together, and good scampering had by all.

First of all big hugs to @DJC3 and your daughter. I hope she feels better soon and the little ones don't get too affected by it all.

it has seemed like a very long four day fast. Finally I have eaten something this morning - the first thing I've had to eat since Sunday dinner.

Weight: lost another 1lb making it 10lbs in total
Bedtime BG last night: 5.2
FBG this morning: 5.2
Blood pressure: Exactly the same as on the BP monitor box - 120/80
Mood yesterday: Absolutely starving and grumpy

i feel sooooo much better now I've had something to eat but my tum did feel a bit unsettled after so I will take it easy for a couple of days.

Breakfast: two boiled eggs and buttered Ryvita
Lunch: will be nowhere near a kitchen so probably some individually wrapped cheese(s) or maybe nothing
Dinner: omelette and salad

Maybe a glass of wine if my tummy feels up to it.

Grrrr - 2 hrs after those boiled eggs and buttered Ryvita my BGs are 6.7!!

Its pouring with rain and we are right now loading the car for a seaside holiday!!

I did have a small (dessert) bowl of the bouillabaise but it made my stomach sore again. So I had a glass of milk and that settled it for a while.

On the point of getting into bed (about 1 am) when a large spider scuttled between my bare feet and under the bed! If it's the one that was there before, it has grown. So - another night in the kitchen chair. Couldn't sleep in the bed, knowing that the spider was there. Not sure what I'll do about it today. I know it is irrational, but it's the only phobia I have, I think, so I just have to put up with it.

Em is 8 today, so must get her present wrapped up and work on some cake ideas that Neil and I have had - not for her birthday - we were started off thinking about it when we heard that her sister ordered a birthday cake for her (£40 for an 8" "minecraft" sponge cake. The design is so simple and easy to do and we were all astonished at the price a local bakery is charging for something so simple.) We may make some of the designs sometime. We are thinking something like a yellow submarine in a deep jelly sea (it would be more of a trifle), with fish, octopus etc. Another one we thought of was an 8" sunflower with bees on it. We used to make novelty birthday cakes professionally and they were always very complicated eg, a model fishing boat for a fisherman, a model Calmac ferry, a billiard table for a snooker fan, a dinosaur nest for a child, a pony in a field. It was fun, but my hands became less able to do the modelling and I had to stop. Son No 2 still makes novelty cakes for his family.

BG was pretty high last night so I added another 2 units of insulin, but it is still high this morning. Sometime soon I will have some eggs - not decided yet what kind. Later I will have some more of the bouillabaise and see what happens then.

@Chook congrats on completing the fast. I often find that if v hungry or BG lower than usual, any food, zero carb included, will cause a much bigger rise than normal.
