Like the sound of the pumpkin seeds and almonds, (haven't got any, but... never heard of "chocologic neopolitans" the "cracked black pepper cheddar" cheese sounds amazing - did you have that just on it's own? I do that with brie sometimes, but I've only got a tiny bit left, I love it with baby piccolo tomatoes too. Think I might line that up for today's lunch or a snack.
Turkey Bolognaise I have stashed in the freezer... what is "cheesy cauli rice"? I bought some cauli rice and I don't like it - cheesy-ness sounds like it might salvage those packs I mistakenly bought.
Hi Fran,
The chocologic neopolitans are little pieces of no added sugar chocolate, in dark, white and milk, chocologic is the brand, they come in a box of 30, 10 of each, 3 are a serving, so I have one of each :). The cracked pepper cheddar comes in slices in Lidl, and yes I did eat it on it's own. The cheesy cauli rice, is just the cauli rice with a bit of Danish Blue added, you could add whatever cheese you like, and some cream, more like cauliflower cheese then ;).

Hey folks

Help me out. I tried LCHF for about 5 days (with a 3 day ease in beforehand) and BGLs were soooo markedly stable. Got cold feet between regular healthcare advice and also cravings for bread that I stopped.

Only now I am back to uncontrolled highs by 'eating what I want and injecting for it' (standard NHS advice) whereby, if I put in insulin that returns my BGL to pre-meal levels at the 4 he point, it still spends at least 2 hrs in an uncomfortable range (11-13+).

My other issue with LCHF was not knowing if I had the energy reserves to mow the lawn, walk the dogs, climb Everest etc.

Also, I travel a fair bit. Not so easy getting a v low carb meal in eg an Italian restaurant or even a motorway service station or airport.

Any ideas/advice gratefully accepted.

Italian restaurants should be fairly easy to get low carbs. Go for Antipasta meats cheeses, olives, Let them know you are on a low carb diet and ask for a plain chicken breast/steak with salad or spinach. If they do salmon/fish ask if you can have it plain. Make sure they do not supply bread in any form to you whether its breaded food or plain bread. You will eat it unless you can refuse to eat it. Airports again will probably have salads with meats. Not sure about the service station, you might have to plan a lunch box when you know you are going. If there is a KFC, Subway or a MacD you can get a plain chicken/meat salad bowls, Just dont eat the bread/wraps. Get any sauces on the side Cheese burgers no bun is ok but not very filling imo. Boiled or poached eggs are usually available if you ask
I went away to a hotel at Christmas and found things to eat, If there wasnt anything on the menu Id ask for something else. They can always say no and lose your custom most will accommodate you.

Hi,

Last night: chili con carne (with yellow and green pepper, some fresh mini sweetcorn I needed to use up [a mistake], and a couple of cinnamon sticks, etc etc) with kidney beans and grated gruyère followed by a few bounty truffles zapped in the microwave for 25-30 secs and topped with cream. Felt indulgent and the whole meal must have spiked me by about 1.5 mmol.

@hansolo I think it may help if you do some reading up around low carb (and the website in the link is a good starting point).
you said you were concerned about energy levels? That is usually only an issue in the first few days, or week or two. If you think of going low carb as switching your body from using glucose as a primary fuel, to using fat as the primary fuel, you will appreciate that is quite some transition. Takes a few days of lower carb before the fat burning kicks in.

However, once 'fat adjusted' people tend to have more energy, more stamina and better resilience - that has certainly been my experience. The only hassle is getting to that stage. Some people experience the transition as flu-like symptoms, and others just feel tired and headachy (you need to drink lots of water, which helps). My partner threw tantrums (there is still a wee dent in the kitchen wall from where he threw a mug on day 3 :D) while I just ached.

Last night: leftover chili con carne with cheese, mandarin.

This morning, nothing so far, busy tidying and shopping for dinner party this evening.

Made this chocolate yesterday (the spices were sufficient for one 100 g bar of dark choc (85% in my case) and it's very nice!

Also looking for a recipe for chocolate spiced with cinnamon, ginger, cloves etc.

Yesterday's efforts (and we'll gloss right over the vast amounts of booze I had during a glorious evening with friends in the pub)

Brunch - Home made 6oz burger with cheese & mayo
Dinner - Broccoli and stilton soup with crackers made from my spinach bread.
Snacks - coffee and cream, coconut water, pork scratchings
