What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: choc chia muffin, coconut yoghurt, blueberries
L: salmon en-croute (but didn't eat the en-croute), rocket, coleslaw
D: Lidl roll, egg mayonnaise, cheese

I hope I can try some of the recipes out, I too love ice cream, and I love a lot of things I've not had since being diagnosed, have stuck rigidly to lchf but have avoided meat as i never eat it, but have made substitutes which I hope are ok.

My BG is always higher on wakening, as I normally get up, go downstairs put the kettle on for my coffee, whilst waiting I take my BG.

I wonder if anyone ever feels unwell in the mornings, as soon as I throw off my covers to get out of bed I feel stiff and like a woman twice my age, I wish i could wake up in the mornings feeling fit and happy, but it's not happening.

Thursday
B Omelette / with cheese / half a lidl roll
S a few pieces of melon
L 3 rivitas / cheese and garlic spread / beetroot / cucumber / 1 pkt pork scratchings
D 2 egg omelette with cheddar cheese
BG reading 2hrs after dinner 4.4
For supper I had 1lrg crumpet from asda with butter and peanut butter
Bg reading this Friday am 4.9

You know how Superman has kryptonite?
and how slugs have salt?
well I have profiteroles.

Popped into Morrisons yesterday to pick up a salad from their DIY salad bar (no eggs in it today! trauma!), and then scooted over to pick up some steak for the weekend.

Unfortunately this took be past the DVDs (Hello, Star Wars VII) and the desserts

And there was a fresh cream profiterole dessert of a few profiteroles in a bowl drizzled with choc sauce and caramel sauce and MASSES of whipped cream.

As I say, kryptonite.

4 hrs later, with a head full of The Force, a stomach lined by a huge and virtuous (eggless) salad and my own bodyweight of whipped cream, my bg peaked at 10.4 then gently subsided to the 7s by bedtime - and that is after only a few ;) of the profiteroles and actively trying to avoid the caramel sauce.

Let this be a lesson to you, my children. :pompous:

Hope everyone is well. Have been away for a week, partly because I was down in Devon on holiday (and nipping off to watch Maidstone United win 3-1 at Truro City). I have been trying to attack weight this week by eating below calories after staying stuck at 13st 10lbs for 2 weeks. So I have existed on smallish meals and plenty of water/fizzy (no sugar) water. Cheese/tomato/mushroom omlettes have featured a few times along with cream cheese with salad, sausages, bacon, stir fried chicken, salmon and veg a few coffees and teas and mugs of warm milk with turmeric, coriander and cinnamon in. The low point was sitting in car park with a coffee while everyone else ate McDonalds on the way back from Devon, especially as I was doing a 600cals or less fasting day (on that today as well). However, the high point has been weigh in day today where I have shaved off another 3lbs to go down to 13st 7lbs. I have now cut my weight by 1st 10lbs since being told about my blood/sugar levels. I am so glad I found the Newcastle study and this forum.
Today's menu will be:

B: Coffee
L: Fizzy water
D: Small chicken roast dinner (no spuds, stuffing or Yorkshires)
S: Raspberries followed by warm milk with cinnamon, turmeric and coriander in it.

Shout out to Dickensfan a couple of posts up. I know what you mean about being sluggish and feeling rubbish from the word go in the mornings. I felt like that for 2 or 3 years before I started dieting and doing LCHF. I don't feel like that now so stick at it. Not sure where you are in the cycle of things but weight reduction can start to make a real difference to how you feel although be a little careful how quickly you do it because I played football yesterday having eaten very little and suddenly found I dropped in energy and had to eat a banana quick! I have found that some days doing 5 or 6 meals at 300 cals has been a great way to under-eat without noticing at all. Obviously that would be 4 or 5 meals for you (the bane of being female I'm afraid :) )

Oh dear.

Raspberries and crème fraiche. Have them in plentiful supply, Brunneria. That way you have the high fibre/low sugar fruit plus the low carb crème fraiche to counteract the creamy desire (or just have cream, I just like crème fraiche). A beautiful dessert and nice to eat for supper while you watch TV.

No nor me :) but I recall reading that in one of the scandiwegian countries, Finland I think ? , they in some parts have a sandwich of butter between two slices of lard :***:

That's considered a low fat diet in Glasgow you know :D

I usually go with strawberries and cream, myself.

But it is all totally useless against the gravitational pull of profiteroles. As I say, kryptonite.

Luckily an indulgence that only happens once or twice a year, usually in restaurants, and therefore in more controlled portions. Cream is, as always, the most wonderful satisfier and filler-upper, and enabled me to resist the rest of the profiteroles.

How much of the spices do you put in your milk? :)

B: choc chia muffin, coconut yoghurt, blueberries (still have multiple muffins left!)
L: cold roast beef, rocket (you could tell it was Friday in the salad bar)
D: beef ragu, cauli mash. Prob hot vanilla milk and 85% choc later

Made the mistake of not freezing my mass of Lidl rolls quite in time. Went to do it this evening to discover they were quite mouldy. Rubbed the mould of and bunged them in the freezer. Sure they'll be ok:***:

When I ask what your issue is with LCHF (as I am doing now :) ), please take it in the spirit it is intended.
I haven't got any issues at all with LCHF - it's brilliant and it works. I've lost a stone in weight (15lbs now, actually) and my BGs have dropped from 7s and 8s when I first started, to now regular 4s and 5s across the board. I enjoy the food, too, and I'm having fun experimenting with it.
My problem is purely arthritis pain, which has gradually been increasing over the past 8 weeks. It could be pure coincidence, but I'm trying lactose-free or dairy-free for a while to see if it makes a difference.

Readings yesterday (fasting/after lunch/after dinner): 4.9, 4.6, 4.9 - woo-HOOOOO !!! Ohhh, I like THEM numbers! :joyful:

Breakfast: Bacon, Sausage, 2x Scrambled eggs, Grilled tomato, fried chestnut mushrooms. 2 slices rye/oat bread with homemade marmalade, massive cup of coffee.
Pre-lunch snack: Pint of bitter, packet of pork scratchings
Lunch: couple of bits of the grilled mackerel, salsa and some kind of thistle me and wife were supposed to be sharing, 2 crab cakes with red pepper aoili, Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter ice-cream, can of San Pelligrino Orange.
Tea: Can't be ***** cooking, as kids have failed to do their house-cleaning duties and kitchen is a tip, so going to get a takeaway from Subway (salad bowl, probably meatball marinara)

(Due to massive cycle ride before and after lunch) readings of 7.2 eight miles and 90mins after breakfast; 5.2 an hour and 7 miles later; 5.3 two hours and 15 miles after lunch). I figure I can have some carbs, but I have to pay for them immediately with exercise.

If you think I'm showing off, yes, I am, I feel very very good about these numbers and no-one else I know personally understands why I keep boring them with them.
