What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: none
L: forgot, but did have a coffeesubstitute with lots of cream
D: 8oz steak, Stilton, mushroom, tomato, garnish, half a dozen chips and a chocolate icecream sundae with choc chips, masses of whipped cream and a choc flake.

Awesome, or wot!?!? :D

And, INCREDIBLY, my bg did not rise above 8 on the Libre and was back to normal well before bedtime.
I think it was a mixture of factors.
- i started out in the 4s
- it was a big, high protein, lowish carb main course
- there was a lot of very fluffy whipped cream
- it was only one (huge) blob of ice cream
- the dessert was quite delayed after the start of the meal (allowing my second insulin response to catch it)
- I haven't had any gluten for weeks (my gluten intolerance always seems to make by bg bounce about like a pea on a drum)

I'm carefully not thinking about the calories...:hilarious:

Haha! glad to hear it. :D

It was at a Sizzler Pub. Never heard of them before yesterday, when Mr B came home from work panting at the news that some blokes at work had eaten at a local pub that has recently changed hands. So of course we had to try it. And next time, we can sit outside with the dogs.

@Brunneria
There's one at Scunthorpe which we drive past every time we go there shopping. Mr C did once look at their menu on-line and told me there wasn't anything on it that I can eat. Obviously he was wrong.... cos I could definitely manage your meal - although I'm not sure I could manage your lush dessert.

According to the Sizzlers website there are four in your neck of the woods. Out of interest.... is there a Toby carvery near you?

yes, there is. Although I had to check their website to know it was a Toby.
They do an OK breakfast, with potato hash that has virtually no impact on my blood glucose, but we go there very rarely, mainly because Mr B (who eats the carbs) says that the sausages are awful and the toast is like cardboard. I usually just have bacon, egg and hash, then watch him plough through enough carbs to put him out of action for the rest of the day.

We also have a Hungry Horse within a few miles. Similar stuff to the Sizzlers, so I just have the steak and donate most of the chips and the onion rings etc to The Dustbin sitting opposite me :D

Couldn't make up my mind what we were having yesterday and between No 1 having an in service holiday and rushing to get No 2 for swimming it was a busy day.
B. Had 2 rashers of crispy bacon, 1 fried egg, 2 chestnut mushrooms and a san manzano tomato.
L. Tassimo morning coffee and a dash of cream
D. Eventually decided on 2 small thighs and a small drumstick air fried chicken with lettuce, tomato, 1/3 rd avocado, 2 Walnuts and a bit Murcia al Vino cheese and helmanns of course.
2 bits 90% Excellence

Today

B boiled egg and 2 Walnuts
L. Lidl high protein roll with Slice of ox tongue, lettuce, helmanns and Tassimo morning coffee and a dash of cream.
D. Stir fry with Tiger prawns, Atlantic salmon, pea shoot Stir fry veg, cauliflower rice and Thai red curry
4 squares of the Chocologic dark chocolate

Breakfast - skipped.

Lunch - salami, cheese and salad (baby spinach, rocket and baby plum tomatoes); Diet Coke

Dinner - will be sea bass fillet fried in butter with a bit of lemon juice and sautéed courgette and onion, followed by a couple of squares of Lindt 85%

Now that I'm experimenting with skipping breakfast every day, I'm measuring blood sugar at the same times as I would normally do pre and post breakfast to see if there are any differences when fasting. Two days in and pattern is similar to recent eating scores i.e. small rise between fasting and the "pre-breakfast" reading and downwards from the "post-breakfast" reading two hours later, so no spikes associated with fasting so far. And hopefully longer term overall readings will be down.

My liver doesn't like exercise when it has nothing to burn. If I'm going for a gym session I have to feed the liver first.....not a lot but something. Temperamental sod isn't it?

Around 7am:
70g pork scratchings
3 catherdal city mini-cheeses
1 bulletproof coffee with a dash of mct oil

Around 9am:
Blood sugar had gone up from 4 mmol/l to 13 mmol/l
took 6 units of humalog

Around 10am:
2 mini-cheeses
1 bullet proof coffee

Not sure why my BS would go up so much when not a single carb was eaten (I understand the dawn phenomenon, but still...)

Breakfast: Eggs, bacon, chipolatas, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes

Lunch: Nothing

Dinner: Cold chicken, lettuce, red onion, cherry tomatoes and goat's cheese

Lots of cold drinks

I went to Salesforce World Tour at the Excel London last week. My food that day was:
Breakfast: Bulletproof Coffee
Snack for train: Packet of M&S crispy bacon (the kind you crumble into salads and the like)
Lunch: 4 burger patties (binned the buns)
Snack for train: Packet of M&S crispy bacon
Dinner: Brocolli with homemade tomato & mince spaghetti sauce

I know, but they are sooo tasty. Although these days they are a bit soft for my tastes. I can remember years ago when they were like stone.... I liked those :)
I've been trying all sorts of varieties. Mr Porkys cracklings are pretty damned crunchy. I think they might have cracked one of my molars around a filling I have
I really should visit the dentist :doctor:

Yea, I have those - they do a "premium" version in a silver pack... they are ok. The ones back in the 70's were flat and not crunchy...just solid. I think they got withdrawn for the dental reason....

Caught up with myself again. Bed 6.4 FBG was 6.3 ànd pre breakfast was 7.1 so gradually returning to these pre latest diseased days.
B. A bit rushed again so a boiled egg on the move and 1 walnut.
L. Tassimo morning coffee with cream and the remains of yesterday's Thai red curry with salmon and prawns.
D. I think I'll try these Oomi Noodles as a carbonara
No 2 is here currently. He's 4 tomorrow and he informs me that he has to work all his naughtiness out today as once he is 4 he is a big boy and big boys have to be good. His second declaration was he'll be able to whistle tomorrow because you cannot whistle until you are 4?
