What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Still sitting high Bed 7.1 FBG 7.2 and pre breakfast was 7.8 and again post breakfast hit 9.2 then it turned. It's pretty normal during the day so just waiting to see if a bug emerges.
B. Slice Hovis lower carb seeded with lurpack and pate pate the fruity one. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream
L. Marigold Swiss bouillon and a wrap of lettuce and cherry tomatoes but the 'wrap' was rare roast beef.
D. Oomi noodle carbonara

Wednesday ...

Still trying to increase my protein intake to reduce ketones, but boy is this hard -- I had to force myself to finish dinner tonight, but to be honest in the end I still left a bit on the plate.

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and xylitol.

Lunch: Nothing.

Afternoon snack: Some strawberries (about 10 small ones) with cream, two squares of chocolate. Half a roll with tartar and a bit of mayonnaise and the other half with butter and some cold cuts.

Late dinner: Steak with roasted bellpepper and eggplants, cornsalad with Caesar's dressing, parmesan and chicken.

Thursday... got a sneezy, achey, sore throat/ear bug.... so

Breakfast: Nothing - just not hungry!

Lunch: (If I feel like it) Two egg sweet omelette with lemon juice

Dinner: (If I feel like it) Salmon, egg mayo and salad

Drinks: Black decaff for breakfast and ice cold sparkling mineral water for the rest of the day.

Portabella Toast w/ Westminster Smoked Cheddar on the side

(Breakfast)

Remove stem (if any) from the portabella mushroom. Drizzle on 1/2 tablespoon (8ml) of olive oil onto the bottom (non-skin side). Sprinkle on adequate salt. Broil (or "grill" in the UK) under 500F (260C) for 4 minutes. Pull out top with 1/2 ounce (14 grams) of crumbled feta. Take 5 crushed almonds (or your favorite nut) and sprinkle over top as well. Broil/grill again for 3 minutes until feta cheese is browned to liking. Pull out and garnish to your liking -- in my case lemon zest, lemon juice & sliced scallion. (Toast is about 130 calories & 3 grams net carbs.)

Good evening. Blood sugar with a mind of its own today. Started out fine at 5.1 but shot up to 6.3 before taking an age to get down to the 4s (usually hit 4s around 10am).

Breakfast - none

Lunch - Nando's. Plain chicken leg with salad

Dinner - courgette bake (layers of fried courgette, fresh tomato and onion sauce and mozzarella topped with Parmesan), side of cabbage and 2 squares Lindt 90% for dessert

Drinks - 2 mugs tea with cream, 1 Diet Coke, 1 sparkling water, 1.5 litres tap water

What's pate pate ?
Sainsburys sell it - the brand is Pate Pate and they make 3 different low carb pates. The fruity one is the chicken liver pate. They put juniper in it hence the 'fruity'. The tasty salmon one speaks for itself - it's a salmon pate and is very low carb. Finally , the boozy one is a duck pate.
I can honestly say they are the best shop bought pates I have tasted.

I'm having the same issue with BGs but a lot higher than you. They have improved a bit today though. I'm waiting for a bug to emerge!

L. Nothing
D. Remains of Tesco finest prawn cocktail, lettuce, 5 cherry tomatoes, 20g red Leicester, 4 walnuts, avocado and Helmanns.

Hello all

B - left over chicken thigh
L- tuna with 1 hard boiled egg, cucumber and pkt pork scratchings
D - 1 slice belly pork with kale and leeks fried in butter and topped with 2 poached eggs. X

How I cooked the above (amounts below are per serving/plate) :

4 oz of broccoli was steamed for 7 minutes, salted & buttered -- later garnished with lemon zest & juice.
Riced cauliflower (Trader Joe's brand), was 6 oz. Fried in 1/2 tbsp of olive oil along with salt.
For the chicken curry, I fried 1/4 small red onion (sliced) with 1 1/2 cloves of garlic in 1/2 tbsp of olive oil -- for about a minute or so on high heat. Added 6 oz of chicken (thigh and/or breast your pick) cut into cubes. Fried the chicken until just cooked inside--again under high heat constantly stirring. Added in turmeric, garam masala, cumin, crushed red pepper and salt to taste. Then added in 1 1/2 tbsp of heavy cream along with 1/2 tbsp of tomato paste, making sure to scrape the delicious fond off the stainless steel pan that just formed. Served the chicken curry over the cauliflower rice and garnished with lemon zest, lemon juice & sliced scallion.

Thanks :) I will look out for it.

Hope you feel better soon @Chook and your blood sugars will be on the way down. Also hope that you will see lower blood sugars soon @maglil55. I will be thinking of both of you.

Today, third day of trying to up my protein (due to doctor's order). This proves more difficult than I thought as I don't really feel hungry at all anymore.

Breakfast: Two cups of double decaffeinated espresso with cream and xylitol.

Lunch: Nothing.

Afternoon snack: Some leftover cornsalad with Caesar's dressing, parmesan and chicken, which I couldn't finish yesterday night.

Dinner: About 250g tuna sashimi with a homemade dressing consisting of lime juice, horseradish, galangal, fish sauce and honey, for dessert I had two pieces of homemade low-carb Sacher torte (first time I tried this and personally think it worked out quite well).

Also, did half an hour of strenuous exercise today. I hadn't exercised since Monday, also on doctor's orders. Never knew how good exercising can feel.

Today, my blood sugars were about 1 to 1.5 mmol higher than usual and my blood pressure went up from 110/70 to about 140/85. This evening, luckily they dropped a bit to 125/80. Really frustrating -- will give this new diet another week to see if things settle down a bit. On the positive side, urine ketones are down to weak for most of the day.

I will be off to Brussels early in the morning to spend two days scouring the flea markets there. Looking forward to this, very much. This will also help keep my mind off things.
