10am turkey rasher, gluten free sausage egg and toms and mushrooms
lunch mackerel salad
supper roast dinner with cabbage, cauli cheese and runner beans strawbs and yogurt- either too much gravy or too many strawbs as bs 7.2 2 hrs after eating which I don't like to see. I'll blame the strawbs as I like gravy but not fussed on them ;-)

I popped into my local Sainsbury's yesterday and picked up a couple of bags of the Beyond Dark Moments Of Pleasure chocolate buttons recommended a few days ago. I think I could get used to the orange ones, but personally find the rapsberry ones absolutely awful. Oh well, at least I tried.

Breakfast 2 quorn sausages, turkey bacon, mushrooms and a grilled tomato ( bit dry without the bodyweight of Heinz piccallli I used to serve with it)
Lunch- ham salad with a small portion smoked cheese
Evening - steak chilli con carne on bed of iceberg with grated cheese, tomato and a big dollop of homemade red slaw
drinks - one decaff with splash of milk, green teas and sparkling water with slice of lime

The lettuce made a great substitute for rice and was actually far nicer than the brown rice I used to shovel down.

On waking: 1 cheese string
Breakfast: 2 slices Livlife bread with cream cheese

Would have had a Greggs latte walking to work, except that a herd of school kids stampeded in front of me and it would have taken half an hour to get served. Had to abandon it or be late for work. I should have brought my machine gun, not the umbrella. Never wise to get between me and coffee.

Elevenses: 3 squares Lindt dark with orange and almond.
Lunch: cold chicken and veg soup.
Dinner: 97% meat sausages, 1 cauli baagi with gram flour, mixed greenery
Last thing: 1 cheese string

Is gram flour ok to use as I used to make a lovely vegetable pakora with it?

Gram flour is (I think) made with powdered chick peas. So it has still got carbs, but not as much as normal flours. I tolerate it much better - but I should always test when you're not sure...

Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
Crab pie (pastry free quiche) had to double ingredients and lengthen cooking time!
2 x tins of crab meat
400ml double cream
4 eggs
Salt
Pepper
Huge chunk of grated cheese.
Mix up. Put in flan dish. 200 degrees 35 mins middle of oven. Several fat pieces washed down with glass of white! Heaven!

I fancied soup for lunch, but didn't have any so had a vegetable oxo cube in hot water. Delicious. Don't judge me o_O

Made that roast veg and feta thing again for dinner tonight. Turns out I am mad for tinned artichokes and never knew until this week :joyful:

For dinner yesterday I ate a pound of sausages (and 125g of coleslaw) from M&S but they were 6% carb, so along with the protein I ended up taking insulin for the equivalent of 35g carbs (all the carbs and a third of the protein is my current rule of thumb). That's more carbs than I really want in one meal. I then had 60g of a high cocao plain chocolate that was about 32 %ch, so 18 gch. Around 55gch all told. Between the dinner and the chocolate my blood sugar went up and stayed up much longer and higher than I expected, touching 10 which is not right for low carb. So I think I need to avoid sausages, or eat smaller quantities, or stick to the low carb types like Black Farmer. Or don't combine sausages with chocolate on the same day. I also noticed Cumberland sausages seem to generally have more carbs, nearer 10%, so I will be avoiding those.

Today was a rubbish day and all I had was 2 Peanut 9-Bars. They are brilliant though, at only 13 gch they are the best of the seed bars. According to my CGM my blood is completely flat when I eat one (with insulin). So I am fine, still not hungry.

My ketones are 8 mmol/L, +++, which I must admit alarms me slightly despite my earlier bravado. I am sure this is nutritional ketosis, as I have no symptoms of acidosis at all. What worries me is this - if I did have a pump failure, with my ketone levels already high from low carbing, would I progress that much more quickly to ketoacidosis?

Next year's couch potato race more like. :)

@Spiker How are the ketones today?

Breakfast: 2 sausages and an onion baagi :woot: And Greggs latte (small)

How have I lived for all these years without discovering the amazing potential of onion baagi for breakfast?
It was delicious, went with the sausages, and kept me full until lunch. V pleased.

Lunch: mini pot of hummus, pastrami, veg soup.

Supper: crust less bacon quiche. No time for healthy salad nonsense, cos Wed night is Puppy Class!!!

Bedtime: will be the eternal cheese string

Somewhere between 4 and 8 mmol/L, I wasn't timing the test so I'm not sure. So slightly less than yesterday that was a definite 8. At least they didn't go up, that would have been alarming!

Would love the recipe/shop to purchase the onion bagies! Yum.

Hi,

I started off using a recipe very similar to this one - really easy, and the egg makes it quite high protein.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/onionbhaji_85976

But nowadays I'm a bit more casual with the measurements.
I use gram flour instead of the wheat flour used in the recipe in that link.
And I fry in coconut oil instead of veg oil.

Most baagi recipes use a deep fat fryer, but I've never owned one, and shallow fry the baagis instead. Lovely crispy edges, and you can flatten them nicely, so they are more like mini pancakes rather than little balls.

If you drain them on kitchen paper as they cool, you can refrigerate overnight and then they're ready for breakfast!
:wacky:
