Oh, poor you, hope you've had something to numb the pain.

It's just that a couple of us on here have been doing the LCHF diet for a month or so and we have both suffered from the high fat bit. I'm just speaking personally now, but that bit of the diet didn't suit my digestive-ness ( is that a word?) . My friend found some articles saying there were increased cases of heart disease in some scandinavian countries where a lot of people were following this diet. I always had a problem with the thought of high fat, and I didn't / couldn't maintain it, that's probably why I felt exhausted, I wasn't having enough fat and protein to keep my energy levels up. If you eat cream and cheese and full fat everything, it's got to have an effect on arteries. So with me having heart problems already, I just couldn't risk it. Sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear love. xx
I totally agree with you. Logically all this fat seems wrong but I can't deny the brilliant impact it had on my BG yesterday after only one day! I'm going to see how I go for a month.

I'd really like to avoid having a heart attack too! Xxx

There is High Fat and Higher Fat. Personally I don't use any low fat products and enjoy the real thing, and don't go out of the way to avoid it, but I certainly don't go overboard and smother everything in it. Like with everything else, moderation is the key. Higher fat for me.

@ Brunneria
Many thanks for the suggestion I will take a look at getting a starter kit and give it a whirl.

Tested @ 2 hrs and was on 7.6, pre was 5.8 not as bad as I thought

@Tweetypie

I have actually got two types because I have started at lunchtimes some serious weight training / exercise, I used to have the chocolate one with 1 or 2 weetabix mixed in and chug that down in morning, but it is very sweet.
So I bought the more expensive option without weetabix in mornings
View attachment 5163 it is 20g of protein per serving, I mix with water only, but high fat milk tastes lovely.
May not be for everyone but working for me ok so far,
It's funny because after my dreadful Sunday of food ( had some choc cake my daughter made last night) this morning was my best BG all the past week @ 7.0 and my pre lunch today was 4.7, I really don't understand food some days, maybe the week of LCHF is paying off, although I have put weight back on :(
(Hope it's muscle mass)
Sorry for the essay, hope this helps

I use alot of protein shakes as i go to the gym allot however most of them are VERY high in carbs and sugar! you can get diet versions but still they are very high.

regards

I've had two sausages and fried egg and coffee

Strawberries, small dollop cream, jelly

Butternut squash and veg soup with buckwheat and salad. Quite high carb at 19g per bowl.

Just tested an hour after lunch and reading was 8.2. Is this ok? Or does this need to go on sometimes list?

Thanks
D x

What did you start at D? Every human being spikes at 1 hour, which is why the NHS guidelines recommend 2 hours because non-diabetics will have come back to base by 2 hours but we probably won't.

I didn't test pre as I've not had anything different today so would safely say it would have been c5.5.

I would wait to see what your 2 hour level is before deciding whether to have it again. A 1 hour reading on its own is useless, not enough evidence to make a decision.

When I was eating muesli for breakfast I tested at one hour and got 9.8 but it returned below 7.8 at two, however lots of people on here said that was a big spike so I should avoid it as my morning pre was around 6.

My diabetic nurse told me at 2 hours after eating if I'm below 10, it's fine. Some people won't be told though. I think it's best not to advise people sometimes, especially when they seem to just doggedly follow a plan because somebody said so.........

I just don't know what to believe/do with so much conflicting info. :(

I think it depends on what you are aiming for, Deb. Even non-diabetics spike after eating but as Bluetit said, they come down again by the 2hr mark whereas diabetics may not. The NICE guidelines seem pretty generous to me at 8.5 post meal 2 hrs and many T2s on here will be aiming to be much lower than that - I know I don't like to see the meter go over 6.5 at 2hrs, though that is just a figure I've settled on. If your pre-muesli test was 9.6 then you measured 9.8 at 1hr then your spike hasn't been much but your overall levels are too high, for example. Conversely if you were at 6 pre-cereal then spiked at 9.8 , I'd say that was too high given that at an hour later you were still nearly 8. I told my GP that I was testing and that my average was just over 6 and he still had me up to two Metformin so the lower the better seems to be the way forward. The soup seems ok though if you reduced the carbs in it, say less lentils or spuds or parsnips or whatever , replacing them with cauliflower or celeriac perhaps , then it would be even better.

I wouldn't call per 26g serving
Carbs 1.4g of which sugar 0.6g as high
