Because it is such nice weather, I have been doing some pastel painting outside today. I cannot use soft pastels indoors because the dust aggravates my eyes.

So, I have done more painting today...well, soft pastels. I do love this medium, and I was waiting for the nice weather so I could do it again...

So, I have decided to do skies for a wee bit...
To try and learn how to do skies...

Here we are...took me about 3 hours for both of them...
They are done on that cheap children's sugar paper, the one found in scrapbooks.

We really are spoilt by the quality and range of artwork from @gennepher @Muddy Cyclist and @geefull and all for free. Thank you all so much.

Unsure how to react to that. Sorry for the wasted time, flaxseed, power and lard - you did line the tin liberally I hope - but pleased you couldn't make it work either. I at least ate the crusts with plenty of butter.

Ah well, I look at it like chemistry - each explosion teaches you a lesson that hopefully, will not get repeated.

then on second look...painting..as said..impressive..
for what that's worth, from a non artist viewpoint.

Thank you very much @jjraack

I am self taught. J was a classically trained fine artist.

I don't abide by rules in painting...

Don't know if you are managing to keep in touch with all your class. but just thought I would mention the way I am keeping in touch with friends. We have been using FreeConference App - don't know if you know it, its a free app which allows you to set up a conference call. It can be used with either a smart phone or landline. You set up a conference and are then given a free phone number and ID number for others to call you with so your conference becomes a shared space so everyone can talk to each other (this needs some management though as if everyone talks together it becomes chaotic. The line can be a bit ropey but for a free app its not too bad and a nice way for everyone in your class to say hello to each other if they are used to coming together as a group. Whilst I have only used it for audio partly because of the benefit of being able to use it on a landline, if you install the app on your phone you can set up a video link.
Thank you for this information. It looks like a really good app. You are right about classes members liking to talk to each other. They do build up friendships over the years. I will definitely keep this in mind. It looks easy to set up also.
I am attending some training via Zoom and will maybe look at running classes on Zoom. The only problem is that Broadband speed can be a bit ropey in Norfolk.

Yes the lady now has pneumonia so it doesn't sound good but she is holding her own at present.
Agree totally with the remainder of your post - forgot to wish @ianpspurs wife Julie a happy birthday so offer a belated happy birthday now and I too am sorry that folk have expressed their intention to leave the thread I hope they change their minds. They will be greatly missed as their value to the balance of this thread cannot be underestimated.
I agree - it is sad that some folk have left the thread and also hope they change their minds.

I have tried many recipes for things with the word ‘bread’ in the title. I think that most (read 99.99r%) are at best, a waste of good eggs. At a push, I make a mug bread if I want to make a bacon or similar sandwich:

25g almond flour
A bit of olive oil - maybe a bare tablespoon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
Pinch salt

Stir it all together in a small microwavable bowl or a fat mug.
Microwave for 90 sec
Turn it out
Let it cool to slice in half or just eat hot with butter and whatever you fancy on it.
Gave this a try, best cheese sandwich I have had since being diagnosed and not having bread, THANK YOU!

@gennepher liked all your art today, looking forward to seeing how the Plein Air pastel skies progress and improve, not that they need to but I'm certain they are going to become amazing.

Posting my effort later the finished painting started yesterday.

Wonderful. Really glad it did the trick for you. I sometimes cut down the almond flour and replace with shelled hemp seeds for a bit more texture. There is also a product by Marigold called Engevita - yeast flakes that add a cheesy nutty taste.

good afternoon all :)

4.6 today

a bright and sunny day again so we braved the somewhat chilly wind and did some strimming and other bits in the garden today :)

as a trial because of lockdown mr gee put his repeat prescription into the little collection box in the village shop a week ago specifiying it to be returned via the pharmacy in a neighbouring village (where we have found the service is better and more friendly than the one in the nearest town).

We were going to call them tomorrow to see if it had arrived back from the Health Centre so we could collect it when we went out to do our weekly shopping on Wednesday but, to our surprise, there was a knock at the door this morning, the little delivery van was parked in the road and mr gee's prescription items were in a little bag on the doorstep. :joyful: When we opened the door the driver gave us a wave and drove away (obviously he was waiting to make sure we took it in), brilliant service :)

Hope your day is treating you kindly :)

@ianpspurs I'm ashamed to be late wishing Julie Many Happy Returns :sorry:

@gennepher two lovely skies, I enjoy both and I look forward to more :)
@Muddy Cyclist a promising start to what will be an interesting piece :)

today's art catchup -
No 1 was an attempt to paint a lovely sunset I remember seeing over the beach sand dunes, I didn't like it at all when I painted it but it's grown on me ;) (Kuretake paints )
upload_2020-4-20_18-51-28.jpeg

and no 2 is an attempt to improve my trees, the sky's a bit of a mess I'm afraid.
