What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning...in the middle of a virtual interview in Manchester thankfully taking a short break which was long enough for me to make myself a coffee...didn't sleep that well last night trying hard to concentrate...woke to a 6.7...keep safe everyone.
Hope you get a better nights sleep tonight. It is hard to concentrate without proper sleep.

I had promised myself a little trip out to the fabric mills at Mostyn, this morning.

I was not going to do any food shopping today, but I passed through a different town so I stopped to see what it was like to shop there.

It was absolutely nothing like shopping at the shops close to me where this guy laughed at me last week for wearing a face mask and I got weird looks etc for wearing a face mask. This different town was friendly, people smiled at me as in smiling generally, and said good morning and I said good morning and the fact that I wore a face mask didn't initiate any bad feelings or any bad looks at all. Everyone was extremely friendly. I have a couple of nice conversations with strangers when I was waiting in a queue. But no one was wearing face masks but that was ok for me, it's other people's choice what they do, and in this town they were respecting my choice for wearing a face mask. There were other plus points about this town, so you know where I will be going for my food shopping and future.

So that part of my morning was good.

Then I went on to the fabric mills. And that was a huge disappointment.

They had closed down the craft building completely and that was now up for rent. The only building that was open was the main building and the small building next to it which sells wools. Also the lift was not working in the main building so I couldn't get up stairs to find my cottons I needed to make my face masks. Then they had closed down the men's toilets and women's toilets completely, there was a separate toilet block outside, and the only toilet open was the disabled toilet, consequently everyone was queuing for the one toilet and children were running around screaming everywhere. So I got in my car and drove home to use my toilet but barely made it.

It is mostly oldies who shop at the fabric mills so the current setup is absolutely inappropriate for just about every one of their customers.

So I went back onto eBay where I had been choosing some fabrics and I've now ordered them. I'm afraid now just about all of my shopping, which is not food shopping is going to be done online. The shops need to do something better if they want to keep customers.

I was shattered when I got back and I've been asleep the last 3 hours. But the plus thing, was I found a new place to shop for my food shopping and it was extremely pleasant to shop there, so I'm happy about the way the day turned out.

While Mr K was in the garden department I did a quick browse around the rest of the shop and found a Thermos Food Flask which was half price. Instead of using the kitchen and microwave when I am at work all day (whenever that might be) I will bring my stir fry or soup in the flask. Less surfaces to touch and clean both before and afterward

Your food flask sounds a good idea @Krystyna23040

good evening all :)

was 4.4 this morning

very warm here today after a cool start, not sunny, just warm :D

Loads of visitors everywhere, it's apparently the period known as 'Glasgow Fair' the actual date was the 18th but it often was the start of the local holiday, the equivalent of 'Wakes weeks' in the North of England which were the manufacturing holiday.

We had to get a job done on the car this morning so since the garage is near mum's we picked up Katy for the day :) She had three good walks and still had energy left over for 'fetch' games, mr gee and I are 'knackered' :hilarious:

We managed to get some prickly rose bush trimming done too so it has been a productive day thus far :)

Hope your day is treating you well :)

@gennepher - glad the family is ok :joyful: and you discovered a new venue to shop :)
I like your waterfall, it has a very good sense of place and scale :)

@dunelm - a very stylish zen brush painting, the foliage on the right is particularly effective :)

art bit -
tried the clingfilm on the hills, with mixed success, getting the paint pigment /water right seems to make a big difference to the final effect.

Thank you @geefull

You have had good success with the cling film on the hill.
An impressive sky as well.
I would love to go for a walk in your painting, and lie down in the grass and cloud watch for the day...

Like the foreground, wall and sky, experiment with cling film looks OK but I really think your hills without cling film are much more successful after all you are the forums master at hill painting.

Powis Castle was wonderful, gardens looking beautiful and NT have it very well organised not feeling busy at all. Luckily we had camper van so no need to use their facilities and a shame the gardens are now one way only but well planned. So we had a very nice day. My art was a couple of Plein Sir coloured pencil sketches that I did whilst sitting having lunch...

So here is Mrs MC in summertime wardrobe and walking shoes, don't let on that I've put this picture on the forum. :) My flower drawing and part of a line of trees. But most magnificent are the terraces falling down from Powis Castle in the first square of the pictures.

Have not been making much effort with food, so today decided to do better.
Made lunch for myself: smashed avocado on toast ( lowish carb obviously) slice of ham, (last in the packet and seemed thicker than the others. ) rolled around rocket and mayonnaise. Cucumber slices. Was really hungry. Started to cut toast and somehow plate slipped, managed to catch the plate but lunch ended up on the floor. Except for the smear of mashed avocado on the cat. She was not impressed - but was appeased by being given the ham for her lunch.

The terraces are wonderful. Years since last visit. But you brought it right back for me. Thank you.

We will keep mum about you posting a pics of Mrs MC. She looks very pretty in her hat and dress.

I like your sketches, and particularly the one with the trees.

It looks a stunning place from the first photo @Muddy Cyclist.

It sounds as though you had a lovely day at Powis Castle. I agree that the National Trust have got it really well organised. We have felt really safe visiting their properties here in Norfolk m

Yes it did feel very safe and the paths along the Terraces at Powis are very narrow so one way is the only option if social distancing is going to be met. Last year when in Norfolk we visited Vicarage Gardens, not NT but we were very impressed with the scale and diversity of the planting. The very narrow and maze of paths in those gardens I imagine will make it very difficult for the owners to open up again. Strange new times and ways we are all adapting too.

Thank you I do like Plein Air sketching and a lady in a frock:)

Yes Powis Castle is dramatic, looking over the Welsh/English boarder across to the Blue Hills of Shropshire on far horizons. The planting on the Terraces are amazing and it's famous for its huge Yew Hedges...

Good Morning and 6.4 for me today.

Tesco early morning dodge the virus run for me at 6.30 am. Afternoon and Evening BBQ in sons big garden with all family (12 of us kids and grandchildren) all cooking our own nosh and Mrs MC and I banned from useing sons loo, Wilfrid the VW camper saves the day again. Hope the weather holds.

I wish you all an uncomplicated day. Keep safe.

Morning all, a 6.1 from me with a strong desire for some rain today. Skies are dark so I may be rewarded ;)

Spent yesterday prepping and laying a new path and whilst 3x2 cut stone slabs look nice they sure are heavy. Ten of those bedded in and the gaps filled with grit before moving on to the expanded flower bed. At least her ladyship thinks it looks 'stunning' :)

Enjoy the day :)

Those fluid hedges look absolutely amazing @Muddy Cyclist

J was going to take me there, but we ran out of time allocated by life...
He was going to take me to the snowdrops there in spring.

However under the NGS we did both manage to go round some gardens in that vicinity, including one of a prior head gardener to Powys Castle. We spent all afternoon talking on and off to him, and he gave me loads of cuttings of different kinds of buddlia and other things and they all grew and are still growing now some 15 years later in my garden here in Wales. Maybe it's the reason I have so many butterflies!

I got an email from the hospital saying that 3 major hospitals, one in England and two in Wales have decided that us cochlear implantees are NOT to meet each other until further notice because of the coronavirus epidemic. No proper explanation of why?

I am like what? How can they tell/dictate to us what we do?

Our meetings are nothing to do with the hospital. They are independent of the hospital. These are meetings we arrange among ourselves for a coffee, a drink, a meal etc, and talk about cochlear related things. So, I don't know if the hospital knows something we don't. That is, if we get Covid-19, does that mean our bodies reject the cochlear implant because it affects our immune system or whatever? I want to know. The cochlear implant department at the hospital have been silent up to now on Covid-19 as regards us cochlear implantees, apart from telling us we cannot go and see them for repairs, or remappIng etc etc.

So, that is me online for the next few hours researching. Basically found nothing, but there was stuff on the Cochlear organisation promoting that hospitals can still do cochlear transplants in these coronavirus times, and that Cochlear has developed strategies etc to make it safe. There was a lot more Cochlear wrote about distribution centres for the implant and equipment and more, 'Reassuring' the world that cochlear implants can continue despite the pandemic.

Actually their words did not reassure me. It shows how fragile the world system is in troubled times.

I said from the start, many years ago, before I had the cochlear implant operation, what would happen if I get the operation and these wires in my head, will it and the speech processor always be maintained. Yes I was told by the hospital, we will always be able to maintain it, always be able to keep the processor up to date and repair it. And I was told by my friends I was being paranoid for even thinking this.

Well, what has now happened? If there is something wrong with my processor, I cannot go to the hospital any more for it to be sorted, the hospital said so.

Covid-19 has put the spanner in the works for many things.

4.8 this morning. Yesterday I went into the high 3s a couple of times but it didn't trigger a hypo warning and the subsequent high blood sugars followed by a horrible roller coaster of blood sugars.

Maybe the hypo warning is the signal for the liver to release glucose from the liver and that's what starts my roller coaster blood sugars. So nice that my body has at last recognised that 3.8 is not a hypo that needs a rapid release of glucose now I am not on insulin.
