What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning prick-and-tell massive. Who'da thought Jason Roy returning would have been sooo effective on my weird virus. 8 hrs sleep and a waking 4.9 plus man flu symptoms gone. I just heard a Wimbledon official claim a man counts grass blades on centre court daily. Call me cynical but I feel he may be slightly economical with the actualité. @dunelm (man) hug for disturbed night. @karen8967 have a great holiday. I'm off for my lash extensions

Thanks.
Yes they should’ve.
When I have finished cuddling Popeye, he needs his morning purring cuddles, then I will go in garage where I have my next painting project set up. If I get completely absorbed in something creative I can go in another time dimension and forget this world and it’s trials and tribulations.
>^..^<
Sounds perfect. Ref your other post have you tried the pots of 10 cal jelly by Hartley. They do a good range of flavours and all very low carb. Many on here eat it with cream, not me I cant abide cream. Just a thought.

Glad you are feeling well, had a good sleep and a great FBG. Re counting blades of grass I could have been spotted doing just that on my patchy reseeded lawn lol.

I was wondering- since chat is allowed here - has anyone else noticed a connection between taking Metformin and weak breaking nails? (If I write somewhere else no one will see it.) For the 5-6 years that I took Metformin, I couldn’t grow nails past the nail bed. I didn’t want talons, just healthy short ones. They were so crumbly, splitting down the middle etc that I asked my GP if she knew what could be wrong. It was the same with the feet nails so there was nothing to be rescued by using gloves to wash up etc.
I stopped taking Metformin mid March and since then the situation is completely reversed. My nails are now strong so it must have been the meds. Has this happened to anyone else?

Interesting question. My nails have always been weak, they split easily and I couldn’t have them long if I’d wanted to. They were a lot worse for several months recently though but seem to be improving slightly in the last few weeks - since I’ve come off metformin actually!

Thanks @PenguinMum. The fbg is just a snapshot in time and could be any number really. I also feel sure however low readings are come A1c in December results will be high. Sleep is the reliable number but fbg is obviously what this thread is about. You stay well and stay safe.

good morning (just) all :)

was 4.8 at 05.08am then 4.4 at 08.53am still fasting

when I got up to the bathroom at 05.08am I looked out the curtains, saw it was wet and windy and went back to bed ;) a privilege of retirement I really enjoy sometimes after getting up at 05.00 for work for 30 years.

Much fun yesterday barbecueing, lovely sunshine when we got the 'barbie' out, then the wind got up, so we moved it behind a big bush out of the wind, then it rained so mr gee stood holding the sun shade from the patio table over it until everything was cooked :hilarious: we had to eat it indoors but mum reckons it still counts and gives her bragging rights over her niece ;)

I'm pruning our towel cupboard today, putting any worn towels in a bag to go in the 'animal aid' bin at the charity :) they're a very popular item, (basically we make up bags of still usable but tatty towels and they're much appreciated by dog owners, groomers, horse owners and the local animal shelter).

Hope your day is treating you kindly :)

Another day another doctor's visit another test and another all clear thank God.

One of the things the doctors I visited on last Friday both recommended is that i should have a heart echo.

I made enquiries about how long this would take to do on our version of the NHS and the earliest the specialist cardiologist could see me for a preliminary examination to schedule the echo was July 17th.

I decided to go private and had an appointment to do the echo on the same morning.

Fortunately, other than a trivial emphysema of the mitral valve that I have known about since I was 8 , nothing else was found to be an issue either with my heart or my carotid arteries that the doctor also examined.

He suggested that a stress test of my heart is also needed to get a complete picture but he agreed that we should leave this for a later stage when my anemia will not affect my ability to exercise and the result. I refused his invitation to do the test by artificially stressing the heart through medication.

So one more item on the to check list crossed off.

More blood tests and urine tests coming up this week (a very lengthy list requested by the two doctors I saw last week). Planning to do this on Thursday morning as I was asked to wait four days from stopping iron supplements before doing the test.

The I will try to put health issues out of my mind and enjoy a short trip to London with the wife. We fly out Thursday afternoon and return next Monday. I know we have tickets to a Celine Dion concert at Hyde Park but other than that we will play it by ear.

Interesting that you both have/had weak nails. My brother said he hadn’t heard if it, but that that would only be because patients haven’t reported it. I imagine that with a GP’s limited time a patient would be more concentrating on discussing other important aspects of diabetes rather than something that could come under ‘cosmetic.’ It was serious enough to be at least a b nuisance, and at worst I’d have to use plasters because the nail(s) had split below the nail bed. I tried so many rescue products I should have bought shares with Sally Hansen!
Edit. I wrote ‘feet nails’ instead of ‘toenails!’ Impending dementia or the influence of OH?

They seem to do that a lot here. It's lovely to wander around the plants then sit in the light and airy cafe. This is a really huge garden centre and also sells a huge range of stuff in it's shop.

I agree, Garden centres are always on my go to list when I come to the UK. But there are no shops open on Sundays in Germany. And when we first lived there only limited shops opened on Saturday morning, and nothing on Saturday afternoons. That is no longer the case. They are very protective of their ‘free time.’

Shops are no longer open on Saturdays? Or are they now open on Saturdays? I was confused by the wording.

I think it's nice that shop owners and employees choose free time over money. I remember when only drugstores were open on Sundays. Nowadays just about every kind of store is. I guess it isn't PC to close on Sunday and not Saturday and Friday. Or else it's all about making money.

I too remember when shops werent open on Sundays. The only good thing is they give students a bit of cash and work experience as its mostly youngsters manning the tills on Sunday. In fact my first ever job aged 15 was serving at a small grocery store which was also a newsagents. Me and my friend from school would go in at 7am to sort out the newspapers and write names on those ordered but we closed at 12. We enjoyed that first job very much.

Hello, everyone. 6.5 this morning.

@gennepher and @DJC3
I Googled Metformin and fingernails and didn't find much; the Mayo Clinic mentioned possible discoloration of nails, and then I found this interesting post from this board in 2012:

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/metformin-plus-point.28171/
It is a difficult one.
So many things in our daily life and it’s not possible to work out what causes what. But we are all different anyway

Thanks @SaskiaKC for looking

I have often had to use plasters on my toenails @Viv19 because there was no way to trim the shattered toe nail.
Forget the impending dementia, I already have enough problems...

Shops were not open on Saturday afternoons, and only some on Saturday mornings. Now most of them are open all day on Saturdays - except perhaps a shop like a family run electrical appliances shop.
Odd that someone on that thread thought that their nails were stronger when taking Metformin!! Oh well, horses for courses.
