What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

have an amazing time with daughter and family but be kind to Mr K after all that housework. Does he don Marrigolds and pinny like moi?
How did you guess that it was Mr K who got the house spotless. It was like a military operation. Sad to say that he does a much better deep clean than I ever did. No - he doesn't don the marigolds nor a pinny.

A query for you. I simply don't understand the almost visceral antipathy to statins on here. There is no simple explanation of the kind I would expect someone to be able to give a year 7. Please don't direct me to the thread by Mr BB - I've been there Bullet points would be good. It all seems very tribal.
Edit: Statins

It may be that there is no simple answer to your question.

I think that if you have heart problems they would be a vital medication which can prolong your life but, as with everything, there is no 'one size fits all '.

I was one of the unlucky ones and my medical records state that I am statin intolerant. My consultant said that it would only take 4 years for the muscle damage to repair but it took 7 and I am not convinced that damage done to my heart muscle is fully repaired yet.

Research is very confusing as some studies show huge benefits and some studies dont show any benefits.

Hug for the damage done by being statin intolerant but thanks for the answer. As you say, from what I have read as many credible sources show benefits as show none or harm. I had never heard of statin intolerance which makes a huge difference obviously.

Actually, the doctors didn't explain what statin intolerance was. So I don't have a clue as to why statins affected me so badly.

I did have an interesting conversation with one doctor who said that they don't think that lowering cholesterol is what benefits patients but that statins do something else which benefits patients but as yet they don't know what that something else is. That was in 2012 so hopefully they are closer to finding out what that 'something else ' is.

I stopped reading research on statins when I read that older women live longer with higher cholesterol. I think, if I am remembering correctly, they mention 7.0. As my normal cholesterol is 4.6 this was rather worrying information.

The more I read around T2 management, diet in general and wellbeing the less I feel confident that scientists and doctors actually "know" anything. I'm increasingly suspicious of members who claim to have "the answer" You seem to have it sorted for you but never profess to know enough to say this is how you do it. A rare breed these days.

Good late Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. Me and me's and Mrs J been doing stuff this morning, calm down, not that sort of stuff other stuff involving walking, eating and drinking marginal koffy.

A horrendous 4.6 this morning. The steam driven sliderule, 7 figure log tables and the most reliable tea bag reading mug all used to calculate my insulin dosage this morning.

Being 70% vegan, 30% carnivore and 15% neanderthal, breakfast was a challenge vegan bacon, sausages and low carb toast, washed down with lots of tea and koffy.
Dinner will be spatchcock chichen, but if my noisey neighbour doesn't stop making building noises, dinner could well be spatchcocked neighbour, Mrs J is getting tetchy.

Must go and sharpen knives......

Afternoon campers

A warm welcome to a few new faces

Been out of sorts last week or so.

Got Results back. say unlikely it's covid.(.not entirely reassuring.)

Test itself rather fraught.

Done outside, testers on huts decking
The testee, other side of rail
"done one before..?"
"No"
"Good then I'll ignore you ,
throat, nose, rubbish in the bin...".. anyway as I was saying.

Seemed to be interrupting "instructors?" Talk with colleague while taking test...my bad

Simple instructions, rather too snappily.
Given, imo

Test done, then told to bin test packaging etc into pop up bin
Mmhh .bin no workee

Solution came quick, presume not the first to mention ..."that ok, just lift the lid "

First rule of dealing with public
being called to a park,
while feeling unwell,
to be rather dismissed as a nuisance to your conversations, is THINK
What WILL make them snap.

Bingo.

A simple query as to whether they were aware it's an infectious disease they are testing for during a pandemic, and thanks but I'd rather forgo the delights of lifting a bin lid after so many other potential "carriers" had been there before me, thank you very much.

Then to have to move through the rather large crowd they successfully corralled behind us, before we could head to the exit, doesn't bode well.

Thought the plan was to mitigate not facilitate the pandemic.

Anyway, calmed down. cough easing, sniffles fading, fatigue less of an issue, but still producing way too much phlegm.

Afraid the T2D has rather taken a back seat again, the last week or so

Be back on the case, soon enough.

Take care all

Sheesh. That all sounds like the script from a training video ending with the words if any of you ever do that you'll be struck off on the spot. There seems to be a general atmosphere of whistle a happy tune, look the other way and pretend it is all rosy doing the rounds just now. Poor so and sos like yourself seem to be just so much collateral damage. Best wishes for a return to rude health asap.

Statins calcify any plaque in your arteries so as long as it doesn't break off and cause a stroke you should be ok.
Warfarin does the same trick.
Their both Vit k antagonists.

There is a test to see which patients are affected by statins.

So they're not actually a dastardly woke plot then. Who knew?

Hi Ian,
IF ones diet is right Trigs and LDL come down and HDL goes up...eventually.

Insects have similar systems to transport energy packets and wastes. You would think to hear some people speak, God didn't know what he was doing when he made blood fat energy transport systems.

Lots of hugs @jjraak ....from a distance...

I feel I would like to say (now that you have related this tale), is 'don't talk to your mate while doing my test'...not a good idea? You're right the cotton bud would end up right the other side of my brain...

I am not impressed with the local Covid Testing centre I pass each time I go out. Too many people in close proximity inside as well as out (I can see through the glass windows, the curtains used to be shut, but not any more...).

I think I would have had a 'racking coughing fit' on the way out through that crowd...

The bins for disposing the paper towel after cleaning your trolley at the supermarket equally don't open unless you lift it...so, I don't...actually most of the hand sanitisers are empty now...

Hugs again. I hope you feel tons better as soon as possible.
You will be back on track with your T2D very soon.

Hugs jjraak x

It was interesting to hear the experts say today with the Indian variant herd immunity is not achievable with present vaccines.
They opined that a level of infection would be reached, w.r.t. measures taken where Covid 19 cases would become more or less stable (at say 50,000 cases?)
This may result in more hospitalisations?

It all depends if the level affects hospital work and increases deaths too much.
Perhaps the economy is the biggest consideration and Darwin will take over from compassion.

Good morning everyone from another overcast start tho the day here on the swan and goose infested Thames.
The wonder wheel of excitement and anticipation rocked home at a spiced up 5.4 this am

Despite a bit of drizzle at times, a very pleasant walk along the Thames with refreshments in one of those outdoor beach hut things that has sprung up in pub gardens. We are off to Bristol this morning so see one of my brothers, he as booked us into an Indian restaurant that he has recently ‘discovered’ - all very John Cabot.

Hope that everyone has a very pleasant day, another tree, another koffee.
