What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I'm one of those folks, who can't abide coffee!
I know, I'm one of a few!
I'm a tea drinker, always have been! Black, no milk, no sugar! Strong as possible!
Should drink more water, but it's my job, to make tea for us both!
I once read the full U.S. Food and Nutrition Board advice that was issued back in the 1940s. It was required reading for a lecture. The advice suggested that everyone drink 2.5 liters (84.5 ounces) per day — so not far off from today's standard. But even back then, that same recommendation went on to say that a majority of that water comes, not from a glass, but from "prepared foods." Hydration doesn't just come from drinking glasses of water but from food. If you drink lots of tea then you probably take in enough. Koffy is better though as it’s good for your gut, like chocolate.

Thanks for the link to BBC sounds. I can't for one minute imagine a man of your means needing "that" letter from Coutts but might we all, perhaps, start crowd funding to ensure genteel Berkshire folk aren't victimised?
Those nice folk at Coutts will let you open an account even if you have no money at all, as long as your mortgage is astronomical. Ever so umble Mr Copperfield.

I can drink coffee but only once in a while, black, bitter and cold.
Tea for me every time but not too strong and never black - unless it is a fruit tea, or Chinese style.
For many people, coffee is a stimulant, but not for me. It has absolutely no stimulant effect, for some reason. I could drink a cup of black coffee and drop off for a lengthy, deep sleep shortly afterwards. But then, tea isn't either.

Edit: I did have a Starbuck's latte in Glasgow Airport yesterday. Very forgettable. It was kind of watery milky but very little coffee flavour. It was wet and hot, is about all that could be said for it.

We like Chinese and Japanese teas, especially in the summer months. We buy it on line Here, and drink it like they do in China: make tea in the morning and have a nice robust cup or cups. Use the same leaves for consequent brews so that it gets weaker as the day progresses.

Tea made as you describe is soo very refreshing. I ought to make it more often but an ordinary Indian brew is easier and quicker, so that's what I tend to have most times. Very interesting information about Pekoetea, Edinburgh. Never heard of them before but it looks like a good source.

When on my visits abroard, even though it is on sale here in U.K., I always drank bottles of lemon tea, various brands, and in summer months, iced tea which have to be made correctly and tasty.
Best was in Greece, when I found a cafe close to beach, and was a Euro, best iced tea ever! It was about 105degrees in the shade! Couldn't walk in bare feet on the sand. Hot, hot, hot!

??? Alok Sharma is MP for Reading West.

I hope it was a very happy birthday Rosemary. Of course, it would have been so much better because your daughter was there.

Yep, iced tea is smashing

Good morning everyone from another bird chirping start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. The back garden is coming along, the final bits of old turf will be lifted today and then the skip can be taken away. We (Mrs Miggins) is not going to lay the new turf. Some lawn people are coming over later this month to rotavate, dig in some top soil and do the laying on of hands to the turf. We watched a recording of Andre Rieu’s 2012 concert in São Paulo - smashing, if you like that sort of thing and it kept Mrs Miggins happy while she did the ironing. I don’t do ironing but am pretty good with handy tips. Went to get the carpet cleaner out yesterday (I am fully trained in the use of all manner of household gadgets) only to find it missing. When I asked Mrs Miggins of it’s secret whereabouts she told me that it blew up the last time I used it! Can’t have been much of an explosive display - probably just a bit of smoke and a phut! **** thing was only 20 years old. So, just did the rugs - hands and knees job with some carpet cleaning foamy stuff. Seemed to work. Art bit - more bits added. Have the best day that you can, happy birthday to our badly looked after NHS. My koffy is ready.

Foot note: just been awarded four stars for my choice of not even a sweary word but something quite biblical that when used with a different spelling describes a structure to hold water back in a reservoir.
