When I remembered to swipe @ 9.10 ish Libre showed 5.5. Not a disaster daahling but distinctly suboptimal. @dunelm thanks for sharing the art, hug for being Krank/Blah. Hope you enjoyed the aspirational coffee. @Lamont D the Blue Team of the past decade+ are the 4th or 5th Sunday extra Xi paying obeisance to a myth held by their party members' and their own misunderstood idea of an outdated and discredited paradigm. @alf_Josiah the numerate were and still are fighting like rats in a sack over what the numbers actually were and meant so even our innumerate PM had reason to ask for some answers. All yeah but, no but just with graphs from partial and (deliberately?) inaccurate data and spurious models - they had no real idea what was going to happen either as the inquiry is making crystal clear. Auto predict strikes again @lindisfel ...Most of the bunch of leaders today deserve to be put on the B Ark if the calamity comes. It was not surprising to hear how politicians in control in the Pandemic couldn't grasp the basic science of the scientists approach to COVID 19
Perhaps it was the "ark" spaceship that carried all the people considered useless (hairdressers, telephone cleaners, etc) away from the world to find their own new home somewhere. Can't remember which Scifi story that was. I do remember that at the end, the clever and useful people in the old world died in a pandemic caused by unsanitised telephones!

Agree but Pharaoh's sourcerers weren't as helpful as they've now come to be seen in the light of what we know and of how politicians behaved. A fair amount of historical revision and gloss - the UK zeitgeist - is being added here. Post hoc ergo propter hoc isn't twenty twenty vision it is a real squint. In many ways the big error may well have been to see/compare COVID to/with the "Spanish" flu because it wasn't. Either way, as you say, we knew/intuited many, many would die. As for stopping that without long term consequences on the poor, young, isolated, those with mental health issues and regional inequality it was not the expertise of the subset of science we used. That had nothing to do with numbers. We need an enquiry but it has become a useful distraction to the question of how we better care for those groups. I'd say the death toll meets that description .

Several years ago, part of my job (appointment really) was to attend government simulation exercises for all sorts of events and one was ‘pandemics’. Scientists, Govt Officials, Energency Services et al. At the end of the exercise the current procedures for said event were updated for ‘best practice’.
