What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

When I worked in Medical Physics I was friend with the Dermatitis consultant and started off having my skin checked yearly and bits were cut off. Small rodent ulcers and mainly pre cancerous lesions. This year they picked up a melanomo on my back which they removed within two weeks and was said be in situ according the lab which it's not likely to have spread. Stage 1 cancer.
Some surface lesions could be removed by freezing eg.rodent ulcers they no concern.

I did all this damage before I was 40 taking my shirt off when I was a young guy.

Incendentally Dr Dermatologist was a great guy, he had me in his ward and looked after me when I went into the hospital with Sepsis with a complete body rash and temp of 104 for three weeks.

We looked after his photothepary machines I even modified one temporarily until they got a new one. I also made him an arm treatment puva machine. Mainly for bad Psoriasis.

He was a very clever man and wrote many papers on the subject of dermatology.
D.
I think cancer is one of those things that will happen to some people and, under the same conditions, will not happen to others. No idea what the reasons are. Tom spent much of his life in the tropics, at sea, and often went around with no shirt and just a pair of shorts. He had lots of moles, many on his back and never a hint of cancer although he was checked regularly as he got older. His cousin, also at sea, was the same. Another cousin loved the sun and always sunbathed for as long and often as possible. A smoker, she ended her days looking like a prune, but never a hint of cancer. Another cousin spent most of his life in Scotland and didn't sunbathe, ever, but he did spend some time in Malaya as a young man. He died of cancer.

In some ways it is the same mystery as diabetes. Why do I have it and my brother in much the same dietary situation, doesn't?

There again, why did I throw off serious diseases when exposed to them, and he didn't?

I have no answers and, I suspect, nor does anyone else.

Good morning everyone on another damp yet balmy for this time of year start here in the dark and dangerous north. A good nights sleep thanks to a concoction of lemon, ginger, cinnamon, hot water with a splash of scotch and 5.4 on the scales Horus. Some solo local shopping yesterday in local shops, for local people. A few gifts purchased and a couple of pairs of new welly boot socks from the Fishing and Shooting emporium. Purple, as recommended by Jenny Joseph. Meantime, Mrs Miggins was out on her questing beast, visiting two sisters who have lately been sent home from hospital. Somehow bashed my left knee which is a bit awkward. Pain management meds taken as rain may stop and a walk could be on the cards. If not, never mind. Art bit, another play with the bamboo ink dippers. Wet on wet. Hope your day wraps you in a little warmth. A thick soup for dinner tonight I think. Just finished my koffy.

Apparently the risk of damage from the sun is quite high here in the Hebrides because there is little pollution to screen out the harmful rays. Generally, though, not much sun either.
Can see the adverts now

"Come to the Hebrides, pure & clean living for the pure & clean.

Sure the sun might kill you, but don't worry .....
.... you'll never see it shining up here anyway..

Book your trip today "

Then cuts to a pasty white family smiling & waving....lol

Interesting point about the pullution @Annb ...and I suppose that makes good sense.

Hugs for the cells damage but what a relief no real danger was caused

Apart from clearing up the mystery as to whether number 10 is a black hole, an event horizon or a portal into some dark Narnia.
I'm going With Event Horizon (the movie)
If you have seen it & compare it to No 10, the madness that infected all those poor souls on the ship is disturbingly similar

Tho, If i might also say, if you have seen the Movie ALIENS, (2nd in the series )
the Tory COVID philosophy & closing of ranks to protect the liars, cheats & scoundrels, was more akin to the Company doing whatever it took to bring an ALIEN back, no matter the cost or body count (to the Nation)

Omg, if only Ripley had suited up and marched in and de-egged that nest....mmhh

Oddly enough, although there are many here with pale skin, some with rosy cheeks, there are many with tanned looking skin, but it's not sun-browned, it's weather-beaten.

You appear to be getting into these bamboo ink dippers @dunelm
I like this very much.
Enjoy that thick soup...

Morning all from a gloomy L.A. Swipey is expiring so I'll not offer up the random selection of lottery numbers it is prone to display at these times. I'm not sure I learned much for almost £50 except I can eat slightly off piste to help JKP/others, see my bg rise steeply then return to base even quicker and remain stable. I knew that before but I guess it is useful to check with the elephant in the room. @dunelm thanks for sharing the wonderful art and take it easy today with that knee issue. @jjraak thanks for that clip which I assume is from a film and a genre I'm never going to watch but I get the sentiment. @SlimLizzy and @gennepher good for you sending/making Christmas cards to those who appreciate them, I know some do, not my thing. I have kept some my parents sent each other. Dad wrote mum's last one to him which always hits a raw spot so I still send JKP one. I'm wrestling with the dilemma of how to keep with the culture of positivity here, acknowledging the nexus of issues many here face, myself included and the wider cluster whatsit without being Benny Hillish. So much the vibe of that inquiry. Lyrics here. I think that tussle is what Advent is for and today's poem is a nice blend of gritty realism, hope and many of our, unknown then but now very familiar, childhood experiences. I'm not sure I've made any sense but the poem is a favourite. Enjoy.

I thought a Rawandan jail was a journey into a hole that is racially diverse.
I have been to Rwanda @lindisfel. It was two years after their so called civil war - Tutsi, Hutu and Twa. One of my brothers and his wife was in Kigali when all the killing took place. They helped to get a lot of NGO’s in. Life for the many is at the whim of the very few. I would not wish it on anyone to be sent there or for that matter quite a few places in continental Africa.

@SlimLizzy just reminded me about Xmas cards.
Help...
I always hand make them...too late for that now.
And these are for people who post Xmas cards...
Digital ones are easy, paint one pic, and do personal greetings on each one by text in Snapseed...cheaper as well.
I have more than 50 people who use stamped cards (and I cut my original number down last year)...that is £1.25 for each stamp...then the cost of making the card...I cannot bring myself to buy shop cards. Have I any odds and ends of cards I have made in previous years??? It is finding them...I haven't the time. Quicker to make some. Have I any postcards with Xmassy themes...it's finding them too...

Solution will have to be found by end of today....

But have just thought, I haven't received any Xmas cards yet... usually I have had about 15 to 20 by now....

There must be something in that Tardis of my studio...or...I think I need a nap first...I didn't mean to but I pulled an all nighter last night. I had everything in the front room I was working on, and thought...I'll go to bed in a minute...then an hour later I am still in the flow of doing what I am doing...then the cat fell asleep on me, so I carried on,but I am sitting in a chair...I put an electric blanket round me, I had taken off my heated jacket because I was going to bed...Next thing I know, and I am not tired or weary, it is 3.30 in the morning...it is time to get up. No point in going to bed now...

Just thought of my solution for the postage stamp cards. I have some antique, do you call 40 to 50 year old special Xmas designed postcards antique...they look special enough. Except when I think antique, I think Victorian....

Right...solution...when I receive a stamped card, then I will choose a suitable antique Xmas card for them, a little short message, a little personal pen drawing, and Bob's your uncle...and then I will find out how many stamped cards I get this year, and save some money hopefully from those who have given up with the expense of everything, or are not on this mortal core any more... then if I feel guilty after Xmas and into the new year, and if I feel like it, then I can make or even do some gel printing new year cards...because I would like to do some, but I do not have time at the moment, not before Xmas with appointments and stuff.

Problem solved....

Now back to my video editing of those beasties in my back garden.

Oh, we seem to have the Xmas lights wars at the moment. Not me, my house is in darkness. Half way through November the neighbours beat my Xmas lights Mr Insensitive Neighbour to it and they all decorated their houses. Mr Insensitive Xmas Lights Neighbour only put the lights on his bungalow yesterday!!! But, because I was awake all night, and it was a clear night, I went out to look at the stars. Not at the back, it is Piccadilly Circus at rush hour out there. I went to the front...it was 3.30 am, and to my surprise three bungalows had left all their outside and garden lights on all night!!! Was this an accident or was it something else? I met a badger in the middle of the road. He was sauntering along admiring the Xmas lights displays. Good day Sir, I said (I know that is for Magpies, but Badger is black and white).

And I backed up slowly to my kitchen door...

I forgot to look at the stars...

Creative is another drawing with my Pentel Brush pen. Done in the front room with my little helper. But I came back to bed for a bit, I have backache, I need my comfy pillows...my little helper declined to leave the electric blanket he was on in the front room. So you don't get him in the Creative this morning.

Wildlife Nighttime video.
Yeah!!!!!
I posted two videos on YouTube in the early hours. The first was a Short of 2 badgers being affectionate...and it has 2k views!!!
But this one only has 18 views in the last few hours. So, I will give you the link to this one!
Cat Jade stays on ground next to fox, and then she's not fazed by Badger...
Cat Jade just gave Foxy Loxy a look when he got too close to her, and he moved off sharpish. I think Jade is acquiring Midnight's touch, she did smack the Badger the other day...

Have your very best day...I am sure you will find some good stuff in it!

Thank you @ianpspurs. Just a tentative 1 mile this morning - that will have to do. Knee looks like a rather large well worn cricket ball.

Great thinking on the card front. Saving time and also ensuring a personal touch. A smashing piece of artwork today. I very much like this style of painting.
