What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on a chilly and overcast start here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.3 this morning at 0600. First Veteran Breakfast Club of the year get together this morning and then out to one of Mrs Miggins’ cousins who is putting on a surprise afternoon tea for her mother. The words “gut friendly” and “Tim Spector” are popular - (no nothing to do with The Ronettes) but is there anything on these menus that tickle your Taste buds? Art bit - not sure that this is finished yet so will have a look later. Have as lovely day as you allow. Meanwhile, back at the koffy mug…


 
Morning all from a very cold but soon to be colder L.A. @gennepher and @dunelm thank you both for sharing those two splendid pieces of art. @dunelm enjoy the breakfast. Thanks for the recipe ideas many if not all of which I would definitely eat. Beans, grains, pulses and tomato, garlic and herbs are really in my wheelhouse. I instinctvely feel they are "right" but aren't they likely to be very carby? Seems I have to sign up to unlock the nutrition - are you a member, if so is it vfm?* @Krystyna23040 good idea to go early and warm up the venue. @lindisfel what a thoughtful gift. As a teenager I heard a few tales of pow life in that part of the world from 3 men in my village - no bitterness but harrowing tales. Y'all stay warm.
*This suggests things have gone downhill but Ben is name checked and carbs (100 gms Chickpeas (chilli flakes big no, no for me) apart his Chickpea Puttanesca is where I'm happiest.

6.2 for me this morning.

When I was in my teens there was a gentleman who lived a few doors up from my Nan’s house one day he was working in his garden and he had striped to the waste as it was a hot day I noticed his torso was covered in hundreds of tiny scars when I asked him about them what he told me was while a pow he had transgressed in the eyes of his captors and as punishment he had been buried up to his neck in an ant hill sadly the trauma of the treatment he had suffered stayed with him and he never recovered from it a year or so after that conversation he took his own life as he just couldn’t live with it anymore.
 
Are but she and S think food banks are wrong they let the present government off.
 
Trouble is, the dog will not necessarily bite the abuser - as with doctors, nurses, teachers. It's the vulnerable who suffer, not the abusers. It's a difficult problem to solve. Workers, whoever they are, have the right to withdraw their labour if they have an unsolved grievance. The public, in this country anyway, have grown used to the idea that their health will be cared for. Someone, somewhere, is taking advantage of the situation.

It is criminal that in this century in Britain so many people rely on food banks to survive/feed their families. Their existance is both an indictment of government policy and a blessing for those dependent on them. It shouldn't have to happen, but the fact is, it does and has to be addressed, even if only short term, by those who are willing to give both resources and time. As above, someone, somewhere, is taking advantage of the situation.

DIL is adamant that there should be no need for charities to help ex-service personnel but there undoubtedly is a need. All anyone can do is give what support they can and try to elect a government that will do more to support the population of the country. I think she is right in her opinion that those who have served, and often sacrificed much, for their country have a right to be well supported by their country via the government. That support is often sadly lacking and the gap is filled, to a degree, by charities. Such charities should only be needed to provide the extras, not the basics.

Just came back from morning (ish) walk around the footie pitches, the kids are playing and it's really a bitter wind, I'm well wrapped up, and with cuppa, start reading the thread, catching up. When I came upon this baltic, arctic, Antarctic rendition of a winter's scene, it is beautiful, but my body on viewing has dropped down into frozen again.

I did a few times, have to be admonished by her in her role as mod, but it was in the best interests of the thread/forum. And her encouragement to be understanding when answering posts.
And for me not to be a complete idiot sometimes. Her guidance and essential part in forming the RH forum was crucial.

So only a short post.
Boy is that wind cold! And due to get colder, hoping my garden doesn't suffer from the frost.

You can pick at what is wrong with the government and its probably in cahoots with those who are reaping the benefits from the policies.
Disaster capitalism is the reference to it.
And as y'all aware, the people behind the politicians are pulling the strings to get what they want.
These are the one percent of the one percent. And the country, politics, and power lies.
The establishment, the beneficiaries, the privileged. Which includes royalty.
How the country is set up to allow for this to happen. Taxstion, first past the post, The Lords and the landowners. Banks. Multinationals, Tax havens in British waters and further. All contribute to maintaining the status quo.
The civil service and more.

To get what needs to be done, is what the right wing would call a revolution. It's not.
It's called looking after the people first and not the financial markets.
Labour get asked first, where is the money coming from?
The Tories have no ethics in increasing the national debt. It has doubled in the last decade...!
It really doesn't matter to those who haven't got the money to even pay for food.
And work and pay too much tax in one form or another.
But who do we owe this debt to?
Answers on a postcard.
This country is a complete disgrace.
Some countries object to charity in every form. Why do we have to rely on it? When rishi and his mates are dragging Britain through the gutter and cesspits of the growing child and overall poverty levels, while languishing and feasting upon the misery of the population.
Enough!
Gotta go.

Yes but labour would lose all their poor support and that of all right thinking humans and will ultimately if they dont think about humans which takes precedence over human policy on hospitals.
