I never have had any time for fireworks or bonifres. Nothing "bon" about them as far as I was concerned. Even less so when I learned what Guy Fawkes night was all about when I was about 8 or 9. I suppose my initial dislike was taken from my father who hated the whole thing. I'm afraid that some of my ancestors, John, were ones who had people burned at the stake, and the one who caused the downfall of the Catesbys, Percy and Tresham. I can only apologise for that. However, some of my family tree also include the Tudors - before they became the royal Tudors - who had some of my other ancestors burned at the stake as Lollards, just a bit before the Reformation when the Tudors (some of them) started to hold the same kind of beliefs. It was all a very confused time and dangerous for anyone who held novel views on religion - or even traditional ones for some of the time. With my, more 20th century, view of the world, I can't comprehend how people back then thought and felt or why they thought they could, or should, control other people's beliefs.Since I found the names Jack and kit wright Robert Catesby, Thomas Percy and Francis Tresham in the old family tree I don’t celebrate Guy Falks night just wouldn’t seem right somehow.
And anyway I have known too many people who have been injured by idiots throwing fireworks around including the 12 year old brother of a friend of mine who was blinded for life by a paint can thrown on a bonfire exploding I think it’s crazy to put pyrotechnics in the hands people who just are too irresponsible to have them never mind the poor animals that it harms.

After what has been said by at least one candidate in both the US GE and the Tory leadership election the idea that nobody can take violent action against infidels in contemporary society is quite quaint and does you justice. We here needed to release prisoners to accommodate those willing to burn men women and children to death just earlier this year. There is something quite unpleasant about both the GOP and Tories allowing non stereotypical members to take the lead in uttering their most deeply unacceptable opinions so that when it all goes badly they can celebrate their inclusivity whilst having a ready made plausible deniability. Good job this lady can puncture that for the Tories. Over the pond one can already see people positioning themselves in the event of a Trump defeat. Sadly, it was not only a 15th century attitude and still persists, even in this land, never mind in the Middle East and elsewhere. At least in Britain nobody can take violent action against "infidels" of what ever faith, without coming to grief at the hands of the law. They can still, and do, shun what they consider to be unbelievers though - certainly on this Island and probably in other places as well. DIL has been barred from working in certain places as a supply teacher/classroom assistant because she once joined a strict evangelist church but left when she realised that they were - to her mind - unChristian with no thought of Christian charity or forgiveness in their minds. Now those who have some influence will not allow her to be employed if they can prevent it. As far as they are concerned she is unforgivable and a "fallen woman" and unfit to teach children. Pretty sure that if it was still legal to burn heretics, she would be on the list. But then, I daresay I would as well.

I don't care that Ms Badenoch is of a different ethnic origin to me, or that she is female, and think it is probably somewhat offensive and disparaging to celebrate that. Once again your views do you great credit but as is so often the case the Mr, Mrs, Ms, however they self-define in the background have used him and her to promote distasteful (downright evil?) views knowing their gender/skin colour/ issues offer a layer of protection which allows those views to be given an airing in public. Art bit is really good @dunelmGood morning everyone on another damp, autumnal gloom to greet the day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.4 this am - a test, just for kicks and giggles. The random gun shot sounding setting off of fireworks seems to have been quite local last night - are public schools still allowing their inmates to come home other than on Christmas Day? Hopefully tomorrow, the annual gunpowder, treason and plot pantomime will reach it’s forgotten roots crescendo but I fear that flashes and bangs will go on for a while down the other side of the bell curve - and some will horde for New Year. I’m blaming the Regency/Georgean/Victorian muppets for changing who it was getting burned - it would all have been massively taxed or even banned as a hate crime by now if they had just stuck to the original victim. What am I blathering on about? Art bit - something about a boat. I hope your Monday sticks to its guns and doesn’t go all Wednesday on you. I desperately need some koffy.

Theme of the day here seems to be the bifurcation between what is now known as too many moving parts in lives and either not enough or too much difficulty with moving body parts. From your posts I would say you and Mr Slim are well in credit with favours so don't feel any guilt about asking for help.@Krystyna23040 do take it easy for some time. I must say there was never any mention of using Nordic walking poles for teaching on my course - or I missed that week. No grandchildren duties this week, JKP has a colonoscopy on Wednesday and a few other parts of life's rich tapestry are in flux. Meanwhile the blues have buried their heads so deep in the sand they may suffocate and over the pond the vibe is more two tribes go to war - nearly linked Franky - than a shining example of democracy in action in the city on a hill. None of that is in my power to effect but, assuming I stay above ground, all of it will impact me, much for the worse, however virtuous I am. I'm feeling frustrated at the moment, and I'm probably in a depressive state.
It has been a hard couple of days of demands on my brain.
I have asked family to help a bit more.
I'm just not getting enough sleep or rest.

IMHO,
The tories seem to favour someone who has battled the 'norm' for a top pisition.
And ms Badenough had done extremely well, for a party known to be racist and misogynistic.
But as I have said before, the leader is just 'the face' of the party.
You have to look behind 'the face', for example, who she is married to. Who funds her rise, her backers and the big businesses that will be knocking on her door?
Hopefully they will never be back in power in my life again!
Haven't they done enough damage?
