I do think the new badge and lanyard is really clear. I also like I'm Deaf, not rudeFBG 6.9
Snow...no footprints apart from Cat Jade's.
Creative...
Well...
I saw a new Lanyard and badge online which I thought would be better for me than the sunflower invisible disabilities lanyard.
I started wearing the sunflower lanyard during Covid & Lockdowns & extensive mask wearing. Because there was no way I could lipread people wearing masks.
So, this new lanyard states specifically my deafness.
I have never worn anything in the past that states I am deaf. I always felt that was a vulnerability issue for me if I did that.
All my life I have hidden my deafness, via strategies, in order to get by in every day life....deafness counted against me in many ways...
So here is the new lanyard.
I also bought a badge to attach. A bit of humour, but perfectly serious in intent.
I have tested it out for two days and it is far more effective than the sunflower lanyard.
I am currently writing and printing some extra info to go on cards on the back of the first card to show if necessary.
The first one might be:
“I’m Deaf, not rude—I’m still figuring out what you said!
Lipreading only works if I can see your lips.”
Daughter in Australia thought maybe the first statement should be "I need time to process what you've just said "
You see when I lipread, I don't see and assimilate your words immediately. I have to work out what the lip reading probably said, and because there is a gap between you saying something and me responding, people think I am being standoffish or rude. (The specialist at the eye hospital did not give me that chance, and my brain was silenced into not being able to work out anything at all. And a card like that might be able to help in that situation).
I am veering towards "I'm Deaf, not rude - I'm still figuring out what you've just said!"
I will also add some cochlear information on another card.
So, this is what I will be wearing this coming week when the Continence Nurse comes to the house....to test it out...
Any thoughts on this are welcome...
Enjoy the snow...
I'll just watch it fall....
Have a great day....

Thank you @ianpspurs and have a wonderful time with prettifying the manse.Morning from the edge of Breckland where the .lightest of dustings of snow greeted me as I deposited the latest offering to Mr Blue Bin. Incredibly fussy as to what can be recycled in West Suffolk. @dunelm thank you for sharing your art (Iggle Piggle? sorry couldn't resist ) again today and the subtle nod in the direction of the twelve days of Christmas. Good walk and workout for you yesterday. Enjoy that Monsoon Malabar. I have to clean up outside after the dogs before it rains, then pretify this place for MIL's visitors (95 today) - our boys, partners and children only in this weather. Video calls will probably be made by others. There will be - no, not that, - cake but first Assam with almond milk. Stay safe, warm and low carb. None of which stirs the spirits but needs must. Peace be with you all.
Thank you @gennepher - Twelfth Night - starts with a ship wreck. Then morphs into boys playing girls disguised as boys. Not sure what is happening here in the Art Bit....
Have a good day in the snow @dunelm
That lanyard and card look a lot more easier for people to see than your previous one. Processing information - no. What you said. Plain language, not veiled speech.FBG 6.9

One rock in the whole of that lake/sea and they had to find it!Good morning everyone from the top of a Victoria sponge here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.6 this a.m. and forecast is for snow until 3 and then rain for a while. Tomorrow may be ice skating. Yesterday. Walked into town with the idea of catching the bus back. A few shops to visit so timing critical. Missed bus by about 15 seconds. Two not very heavy shopping bags and a pleasant mile and a half walk - and no gym fees in sight - result! Just had an epiphany; was it Shakespeare who invented gender dysphoria Cesario? Anyhow, art bit, 12th Night. May your welly boots be cozy and warm before you don them. Must get on, I have tasks to ignore - but first koffy - the last of the Monsoon Malabar which has done splendidly for 12 days and far better a gift than a daily delivery of birds and noisy strangers.
Happy 95th MIL. Hope it all goes well today.Morning from the edge of Breckland where the .lightest of dustings of snow greeted me as I deposited the latest offering to Mr Blue Bin. Sounds some great improvised meals @SlimLizzy04.01.2025

-4°C this frosty morning with sleet or snow forecast for this afternoon.
After dramatic power cuts yesterday, last night ran out of gas, requiring some inguenity to provide hot meals. Its saturday, so local shop is closed. Last night oven chips finished cooking on top of the woodburner along with a rather scrambled mixed pepper and dried cherry tomato omelette. Today lunch is toast and sardines. Dinner will noodles with a tin of prawns and homemade pasta sauce warmed in microwave.
Kiki was excited at the idea of sardines and sat on MrSlims lap hoping for crumbs, she did eventually get her expected reward for not attempting to help herself and then settled on my lap. Such a rare event I am disinclined to move her, even though there is still much to do.
I think Clint Eastwood said it best in magnum force7.5 at 04.00 today. Still dozy because I didn't sleep well.
It's bright and sunny here, but not warm so I have radiators going full blast.
Finally got my desk area organised yesterday evening - I'm not good at moving things around, but Neil did the heavy bit and I did what should have been the lighter bit of putting the filing trays back in order and re-arranging the phone and tablet beside the pc and so on. It still took me ages, with frequent rests in between tasks. I keep thinking I'm lazy but, actually I know it isn't laziness - it just hurts too much to carry on. Still, I can do it with frequent breaks and as long as I can, I will.
The van arrives tomorrow. MrSlim made a valiant effort on Saturday and packed his heavy tools, cement mixer etc. Then we took them over to the friends who are storing them for us. But the next day it was obvious he had overdone it and he was dizzy and not able to do much. By afternoon he had improved somewhat and we took a carload of fragile items to the storage place. They are coming tomorrow and suddenly we have so much stuff still to pack - and only three boxesLet’s hope that MrSlim is back up and running when the removal van arrives - interesting times.
