-4°C this frosty morning with sleet or snow forecast for this afternoon.
After dramatic power cuts yesterday, last night ran out of gas, requiring some inguenity to provide hot meals. Its saturday, so local shop is closed. Last night oven chips finished cooking on top of the woodburner along with a rather scrambled mixed pepper and dried cherry tomato omelette. Today lunch is toast and sardines. Dinner will noodles with a tin of prawns and homemade pasta sauce warmed in microwave.
Kiki was excited at the idea of sardines and sat on MrSlims lap hoping for crumbs, she did eventually get her expected reward for not attempting to help herself and then settled on my lap. Such a rare event I am disinclined to move her, even though there is still much to do.

A hug fur the power failure
An intrepid spirit emoji for the hybrid food supply

But a genuine WIN for the cat ending night

Moments you can only hope for sometimes,, should be savoured uninterrupted

I do approve & understand why you didn't want to move her

Such a lovely moment
We're blessed to have them .

It sounds as though the "break" (as much as you do breaks) has done you a power of good. I hope you take the lessons of #anklegate into 2025 and beyond. File that under aspiration, I suspect. :playful: Thank you for the good wishes for MIL and JKP. The physio has sent JKP exercises and the GP says keep taking the pills but mostly smile and wave.
Good that the physio has sent JKP exercises.

The break has been good and has made me realise that I do need to take longer breaks. It has also given me time to look at the admin and devise ways to streamline it and save time when I am sending out info to class members.

7.8 at 05.00 today. Had breakfast, with normal amount of insulin and BG dropped to 3.3. Had a digestive biscuit, which should have done something, but no, it stayed too low so I had a 2nd biscuit. BG shot up past 8! No sense to be had at all.

My new scanner/printer has arrived. I didn't realise just how much space it would take up and I've had to rearrange my desk and surrounding area to make room for it. I think it may take a few printed pages before it produces a good, clear print. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Currently it has darker lines running through the printed page - 2nd print better than the first. It's a bit more complicated than my older printer and scanner so I hope the technology isn't too compllcated for me. It's wireless and does seem to be talking to my computer at the moment.

Up late again last night, following a family line right back into Wales. Alistair is sick - maybe covid, maybe really bad flu, even though he had a flu jab but he was on the phone last evening and I asked him to tell Em about her pirate ancestor. I'm sure she will be delighted about that.

Good morning everyone in the perfection that is the silence of dawn here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.4 this glorious a.m. Got some more logs yesterday. Just a car boot full. Which isn’t a huge amount when you are in a Smart car. But enough for a week and merely a top up. Snow forecast - well there you go. Never happened before has it? The Met Office is wanting folk to stock up on torches and batteries, candles with matches and lighters and plenty of blankets and warm clothing. But they don’t appear to be listed in “these are a few of my favourite things” Julie. When it arrives, there it will be. I will check our lanthorns. Art bit - Sailing from Lisbon. Hope your day is a good one and don’t crick your neck when gazing up at the Quadrantids meteor shower (best one of the year so far ). Koffy, best make some koffy.
Sailing through the mists.....

Morning all on a perfectly imperfect January morning in Breckland. I have no idea of my fbg which makes my presence here rather superfluous bearing in mind one part of the thread title but you are an indulgent crowd.. @dunelm and @gennepher thank you for sharing your artistic skills once again. @Krystyna23040 shame about the rain in New Zealand for your friend but them's the breaks. A day to catch breath here before celebrating a 95th birthday tomorrow. Likely to be very low key as JKP still has a very bad back and we are all big family feasted out. Cake for the Normies and tea for this Tillerman: shame he was then called Cat. Yes, I saw your Prince/Symbol etc and raised you. Ange may not make it to Wednesday, he seems to have broken all Danny Boy's B and M toys aged over 18. Are Pork Clouds an acceptable sub for popcorn ? Enjoy your Saturday - it was once rumoured you could go your own way.
Thanks Ian...

Thank you @dunelm a last minute decision has me travelling to UK on Christmas eve. MrSlim stayed in France, good decision as he went down with heavy cold? Flu? On boxing day - which is when we have the family party. He has been very unwell but is starting to recover now. Which is a really good thing as the removal van arrives Tuesday.
Edit: written yesterday but failed to post.
Let’s hope that MrSlim is back up and running when the removal van arrives - interesting times.

Great ingenuity there with menus and thank goodness for a woodburner

Hug for Mr Slim and the gas running out. Wonderful improvisation to deal with the hot food issue. I hope Mr Slim is recovered by removal van day.

I was wondering where @Lamont D has got to, but I see he has posted today on a different forum, so it can't be too alarming.
Yeah, still around, but as always, too busy to spend a lot of time on here, not only Mrs L but my eldest ha s been in hospital, not sure what, but high blood sugar and such, liver issues etc. Don't know if he is diabetic waiting for results etc. His previous issues with ulcers , are still ongoing. Daughter has flu in Yorkie land. Babysitting #7 &#8, cos DiL working cos hospital is overcrowded. Eldest was in overflow A&E ward for his stay.
Lots of footie, changing house around back to normal. Then of course everything else.
Mrs L is behaving but is still not handling stuff very well.
I will catch up.
Then of course there was the birthdays.
And another Monday.
Happy New Year to each and every one of you lot. Who have tried to keep me sane and as resilient as possible.
My team win today, for a change. So not all bad.
It has been fun and my garden is abound with new growth especially the spring bulbs.
The weather is awful, another drowning of the moat around our abode, and freezing, snow forecast tomorrow.
Keep well, keep warm and keep safe.
And I wasn't aware Italy had a border with Turkey!
And Musk is a complete and utter waste of being a human.
Bless you all.
I'll be back!

Good morning everyone from the top of a Victoria sponge here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.6 this a.m. and forecast is for snow until 3 and then rain for a while. Tomorrow may be ice skating. Yesterday. Walked into town with the idea of catching the bus back. A few shops to visit so timing critical. Missed bus by about 15 seconds. Two not very heavy shopping bags and a pleasant mile and a half walk - and no gym fees in sight - result! Just had an epiphany; was it Shakespeare who invented gender dysphoria Cesario? Anyhow, art bit, 12th Night. May your welly boots be cozy and warm before you don them. Must get on, I have tasks to ignore - but first koffy - the last of the Monsoon Malabar which has done splendidly for 12 days and far better a gift than a daily delivery of birds and noisy strangers.

Morning from the edge of Breckland where the .lightest of dustings of snow greeted me as I deposited the latest offering to Mr Blue Bin. Incredibly fussy as to what can be recycled in West Suffolk. @dunelm thank you for sharing your art (Iggle Piggle? sorry couldn't resist ) again today and the subtle nod in the direction of the twelve days of Christmas. Good walk and workout for you yesterday. Enjoy that Monsoon Malabar. I have to clean up outside after the dogs before it rains, then prettify this place for MIL's visitors (95 today) - our boys, partners and children only in this weather. Video calls will probably be made by others. There will be - no, not that, - cake but first Assam with almond milk. Stay safe, warm and low carb. None of which stirs the spirits but needs must. Peace be with you all.

Not sure what is happening here in the Art Bit....
Have a good day in the snow @dunelm

5.9 this morning.
Yesterday wrote the exercise sheets for the new exercises I learnt over the break.

Straight away I found the perfect pictures to illustrate them on Google. Often it is hard to find the perfect image - but not yesterday.

One of the exercises I wasn't sure of as it was so easy to work the wrong muscles and damage the body.

After a bit of thought I tried out two adaptations and 'hey presto' the perfect exercise with absolutely no way of using the wrong muscles.

Isn't it wonderful when your brain works out difficult problems effortlessly.

I can forgive it all the times I go upstairs and forget what I have gone up for. Or when I go to get something out of a cupboard but end up opening the fridge door instead.

Well done on writing the exercise sheets and finding the perfect exercise. Pesto and perfect moules sans frites all in one post. C'est magnifique. Talking of Mr K, be kind to him, he's a keeper. :playful:

Snow...no footprints apart from Cat Jade's.

Creative...
Well...
I saw a new Lanyard and badge online which I thought would be better for me than the sunflower invisible disabilities lanyard.

I started wearing the sunflower lanyard during Covid & Lockdowns & extensive mask wearing. Because there was no way I could lipread people wearing masks.
So, this new lanyard states specifically my deafness.
I have never worn anything in the past that states I am deaf. I always felt that was a vulnerability issue for me if I did that.

All my life I have hidden my deafness, via strategies, in order to get by in every day life....deafness counted against me in many ways...

So here is the new lanyard.
I also bought a badge to attach. A bit of humour, but perfectly serious in intent.

I have tested it out for two days and it is far more effective than the sunflower lanyard.

I am currently writing and printing some extra info to go on cards on the back of the first card to show if necessary.
The first one might be:
“I’m Deaf, not rude—I’m still figuring out what you said!
Lipreading only works if I can see your lips.”

Daughter in Australia thought maybe the first statement should be "I need time to process what you've just said "

You see when I lipread, I don't see and assimilate your words immediately. I have to work out what the lip reading probably said, and because there is a gap between you saying something and me responding, people think I am being standoffish or rude. (The specialist at the eye hospital did not give me that chance, and my brain was silenced into not being able to work out anything at all. And a card like that might be able to help in that situation).

I am veering towards "I'm Deaf, not rude - I'm still figuring out what you've just said!"

I will also add some cochlear information on another card.

So, this is what I will be wearing this coming week when the Continence Nurse comes to the house....to test it out...

Any thoughts on this are welcome...

Enjoy the snow...

I'll just watch it fall....

Have a great day....

Well it’s a winter wonderland here at the moment snow and ice everywhere.
At about six thirty last night two men in a van eventually turned up to collect my scooter what a fiasco they didn’t have enough room in their van do to everything that was stuffed in there already they then even tough it was obvious it was not going to fit in they nearly dropped it while trying to fit a quart in a pint pot I mean it no light weight any way it’s still here and they are going to try again next week.
