Power over people occurs in Cults, Political parties, Unions etc. Never been much interested in power over people. Leadership is not about driving people its about leading people hence the example/analogy of oriental shepherds.

Most religious people don't go in for brand x over brand y they look for the religion that they find satisfies their need for a deity, for Christians that is centred on Jesus Christ.

Hi Derek and I respect your views and the freedom to practice your faith!
But for some their isn't an option of that freedom.
And still in the U.K. There is consequences of not adhering to that religion.

As for the reason we are here, I'm not conversant in theories of all that. I never found time or the willingness to study it either.
Maybe nature covers it!
The science fiction books are full of it!
But we are discovering more and reasoning it all out as much as we can!
Which religions tend to disagree with for some reason?

Those souls who are coerced into adhering to a faith system are coerced by the power that other people (I have to say, generally men) have over them. That is not the religion, and is not truly faith at all, it is a perversion and the exercise of power. It's hard, I know, for people to break away in such circumstances, but that's the fault of those who hold sway over them, not of religion in general or of faith.

Of course, we would all like to live in a world where everyone is free to do or believe what they want (as long as it doesn't involve harming others) and, generally, in this country we are lucky enough to be able to do so. But there are places where this is not the case. There are also places where other forms of subjugation are practiced - not necessarily religious. This is all mankind, not any deity or actual religion. Some sects may well be different - again, man(kind)-made.

A pity to blame God for mankind's wrongdoing. We are free to make whatever mess we want to of our or others' lives. Perhaps, if we could all agree, somehow, not to harm any other person, organisation, society or state, some or many of these forms of subjugation could disappear. It's a long shot, I'll grant you, but I chose to live in hope and faith.
 
Have just caught up with the posts.

We had a bit of excitement on our early morning dog walk as an air ambulance landed in the park we were walking in.

The pilots were so friendly and chatted to us while they were waiting for the doctor and paramedics to return. Hopefully their patient was OK.

Have done heaps and heaps of admin today. Have now sent all class members lesson plans so that they can carry on with the exercises over the break. The admin should get easier from now on.

Good morning everyone from quite a breezy start here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.1 this am. This morning is a time of mystery and perhaps imagination. We might though venture down to the cafe and then perhaps catch the bus back. I have it that we are visiting a venue at some point in the afternoon as a location for a reunion next year. Caught a programme last night hosted by Alice Roberts - they were, amongst other things, trying to date the Cerne Abbas Giant - not as old as folk think. 900AD-1400AD is the latest estimate using some fancy lab stuff. Art bit - some detail added. Hope your day has at least one laugh and several smiles. Koffy time.

Family came back to York overnight sunday after having a hot holiday for two weeks on Lanzarote. Jet2 seems to bring back passengers very late in the day. They usually get involved in any sport going in the hotel and thrash all opposition at table tennis and tennis.
One day I hope they learn a lesson against a national expert :)

I need to get out birding again so perhaps we may head for the Solway after lunch.

Morning all on a subdued start weather wise here but sunshine, moderate breeze and a so so 24C have been ordered. Hopefully there will be no substitutions. Groceries delivered and scanned, Swipey ordered and Sunday's postponed cooked breakfast consumed yesterday. Looks like some sausages and bacon are fine if not as enjoyable as previously. Obviously they were W, no idea why I ever thought anything else would work. I'm not convinced of the nutritional value thereof but mushrooms and tomato healthwashed (that word is a keeper) things. @dunelm and @gennepher thank you so much for sharing your gifts of art. @Annb thanks for the well written post on religion. People know my views which oblige me to fervently hope you all become believers but here isn't the time or place. Almost if not all societies throughout history seem to have had some kind of religion making them cohesive. They can all be wrong but they can't all be right. Anyhow, one car is being MOT'd and serviced today and two grandchildren are here so I feel blessed. Enjoy your day whatever happens and who or whatever is your loadstar unless of course this is an appropriate worry for them. Then like poor old Rudy you're on your own, out of pocket/flat broke.

8.9 this morning at 5.45. I'd made an effort and turned over twice to get more comfortable and back to sleep for a bit, but by then, there was no point trying any more. Besides, my cleaner is coming today and there's much to do to get ready, and at my slow pace that is going to take a couple or three hours.

Bathrooms done, bed to be stripped so that she can help me put it all back together, kitchen to be sorted (dishes that didn't get into the dishwasher to be put there and dishwasher to be emptied from the first load). All very mundane, but it will take me all my time to get it done.

I have several writing projects to be finished and am hoping to get one of them finished today (a children's book about various pets in the family) and ready for properly editing, putting in graphics and what used to be called typesetting but I don't know what you call it now. Neil will do that for me - he's a dab hand at that.

DIL tells me that she was at a function a few days ago where she met a woman who knew me. "Ah yes, Ann", she reminisced," she was my course leader when I was at college. I used to do all her proofreading for her." That was news to me - it was always Tom's job or failing that, Neil's job. The only proofreading I remember her doing was participation in an experiment to find out if people, at that stage, could pick up errors more easily from the page or from the screen. Odd how memories differ.

Rhapsody in blue. My pipettes arrived so will be experimenting with some drips and running ink.

Good BGL and welcome to this corner of the site. We did a Nordic walking course a few years ago - Southampton I think and we have a nice long beach to play with the poles. Protein roll. Do you buy or make it?

Thank you @ianpspurs - mushrooms - yummy! I did finely chop a whole punnet up last week and shoved on a tray in the air fryer to dry them out a bit. Used them to make quite a decent ragout and had with roasted cauliflower.

Blood sugars this morning were 6.6 if they were 6.66 then that would or would not be in keeping with a few of the postings on this thread.

Today here in Tilehurst Towers the situation is as ab normal, plans made, targets set, then reality happens, Mrs J dictates, she moveth in a mystery feminine way and me, me’s and myself are given clear instructions.

I know my place.

Stay safe all and remember the phrase “Yes dear” can be misinterpreted as a declaration of marital war…….in Tilehurst Towers at least.

Hi Dunelm. Thanks. I make the rolls as a slightly different version of my protein bread I make. Im just going to the Gym , but I will send you all the details and recipe later.
