What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

good morning all :)

4.3 today

mysterious mist this morning and the weather prognostication is for rain this afternoon so we may go over to mum's to do some log stacking this morning ;) homemade bacon and veggie soup is in progress so that's lunch taken care of.

Still nursing the lump on my shin and contemplating aquiring a pair of shin guards to add to the gardening equipment :)
Cricket pads?

Good morning everyone
9.25am BG was 5.8
Had a very early morning dressing changed appointment so later today, it seems to work testing later.
Good news the nurse says my skin graft and the infection is now healed so no more dressings Hurrah!!
Can now look forward to our holiday has long has I use factor 50 sun lotion which my doctors have given me,hopefully this should help with sun burn when I'm walking around abroad, because we do more walking than sitting in the sun.
Fingers crossed this carcinoma is my last.K

Hi all. Blood sugars were 5.1 this morning. It seems that the flu bug is finally out of my system.

@Mick1959 -- The higher blood sugar levels, you've seen at 4 a.m. and also later in the morning are probably also due to dawn phenomenon. Often we observe normal blood sugar levels during the day, but still keep seeing higher levels early in the day (at least for a while). I gather it took at least half a year on low-carb for me, until fasting levels came down also (this happened even though my first two HbA1c during this time were already in the non-diabetic range). So, what you are observing is not unusual.

.

@ziggy_w, thanks for the advice, good to know it is just normal and my body slowly adjusting.

@karen8967 -- A friend once said, for cats we are just human can openers. I still like to think that maybe we are a bit more meaningful than this. Our cat is now older, a bit more settled, so we get more sleep. In the beginning, when she got bored at night, she jumped on the bed and started walking forth and back (not on the bed, but on hubby's and my body) until we got up and went to play with her. So, they can be really selfish little buggers, but so cute, just like your cat.

@Peadair O Brionn -- The dawn phenomenon is due to a release of hormones (cortisol, adrenalin, growth hormone, glucagon) to give us a spurt of energy to prepare us for getting up. This is normally counterbalanced by insulin (in normal people). In diabetics this release of hormones, however, often leads to a rise in blood sugar levels either because we don't produce enough insulin and/or because we are insulin resistant (and the action of insulin is not as effective).

@dogslife -- Sorry to read that your hospital appointment got cancelled. Living with constant pain must be exhausting.
Our used to swipe you with her paws if the mood took she would also sidle up for a stroke then give you a quick nip when she had had enough

Enjoy your holiday @Granny_grump . @karen8967 we were in Cyprus in early November sunbathing and enjoying the champagne for breakfast - loved it! Having to wear a suit and tie in 40 degrees for my Son's wedding in Skiathos last August not so much! What happened to weddings in the local Church or registry office eh? Hope all goes well for you and your family in Cyprus.

Morning ziggy_w. Glad to hear that you are finally over the flu. These virus type illnesses can linger for ages especially when you have other conditions to deal with. Good fbs for you this morning.:)

8.4 this morning, trained early again. seems like yesterday's 17.4 was a rather large blip!! as by mid afternoon I had managed to get it down to 5.5 until I got home at 9pm, so I will pat my self on the back as numbers like that usually run for a few days.
Take care every one.

have a fantastic time k. x my sons wedding is in santorini greece in july xx

Ok so this morning my FBG was 6.7 . Now that’s the highest I’ve been in the 12 days since I started testing normally under 6 . Had a livlife sandwich with cheese last night before bed and went to bed with s reading of 6.0. Which was also higher than normal . Think the sandwich supper will have to stop
Can someone explain this dawn phenomenon to me as I don’t have any idea what it is
Have a lovely day people

well about the dawn phenomenon, as I have understood it the liver can store some glucose for later use and also store proteins which is then when used transformed into blood glucose as well and released into bloodstream when hormones and/or other signal substances gives the liver a hint of speeding up its release of glucose, this happens in most people also in the mornings (and in other situations with brutal exercises that last for longer time/hours..)
in type 2 the livers seem in many cases to be somewhat overactive all the time so most type 2 suffers from a higher number in the mornings than in other times of the day..

I personally think ones should avoid carbs as much as possible in the evenings... and also excess amounts of proteins, and try not to eat in the evenings at all after an early dinner... it is afterall everybody´s individual choice , but try not to eat after 19 o´clock in the evening and see if your number doesn´t lower then , the combined amount of calories can also be a problem in many cases but not to all persons... so the best would be only to eat the amount of nutrients ones body need on a daily basis..
here is a calculator you can use to find out your ideal level of daily nutrients of proteins fat and carbs..
