Just got back from my doctor's. As soon as she came into the room, she told me "You are fantastic." My hb1ac was 5.6% (38) and everything else was well within the normal range (as it was before). I've lost a total of 39.9 lbs (18 kg) and I've lost 5" off my waist (I have dropped 2 clothing sizes).

We talked about carbs and I gave Dr. Unwin's article and some other materials, she's very supportive of low carb eating for diabetics. She knows that I got encouragement from my best friend (who is also her patient who brought her hb1ac down from 26% to a number even lower than mine). Our doctor now has 2 in her practice who've reduced their numbers with eating low carb. We also talked about why low fat/low calorie has not worked for me in the past and I told her that for the first time in my life, I have normal hunger.

She told me that her biggest challenge with getting patients to eat low carb is cultural, some of her patients are south Asian and their diet is very carb heavy. (I told her that I understood as my son-in-law is from south India and I referred her to a video with a British doctor of south Asian heritage who works with this population and has had success getting them to eat low carb or at least lower their carbs.)

Brilliant news all round. Your results are amazing. And your friend has an even lower hba1c from a higher starting point!! That is fantastic. You will have been such a great support system for each other. And your Dr can hear the success stories in stereo! Your Dr is a keeper!!!

5.8 today. Higher than usual but tested later than usual. Took hubby to work first. I find that if I don't eat first thing my BS tend to go up. I've just had 2 bacon and 2 fried eggs and a lovely creamy coffee. Wasn't really hungry but keeping those BS in check!

My social media post from yesterday to give you a bit if a laugh. Trying to spread the word at every opportunity!

Mike's bench update.

I practiced all night Monday night going over what I was going to say to the BBC breakfast TV team as I was told by Elizabeth I might be interviewed. Hairbrush as a microphone .. All Tuesday morning too. Did little notes for myself in case I had the opportunity to read to ensure i didn't forget anything. What my thoughts were about Mike's bench. It had been a turning point for me in accepting my diabetes diagnosis. The feeling of 'I'm going to die' turning to 'I'm alive but poor Mike isn't'. And going over all the positives since that day.

Arrived at Stanley Park yesterday at 12 noon for the filming. Met the presenter Jane and camera man John by Mike's bench at the lakeside . there were a few being filmed. Beautiful sunny day.

'Can you get your story over in 8 seconds' she said!!! 8 SECONDS! Not even a round 10! I was thinking I couldn't do it in 8 minutes (she obviously hasn't seen by blogs!!!)!!!! I had all my props with me in my mega handbag but couldn't use them. Just me and Mike's bench!!!

I couldn't even spit diabetes.co.uk out in 8 seconds!!!

The main focus was on 3 lovely sisters (rightly so, such a heartwarming story). Who come from all over England to sit on the bench. Sat there with their mum the day before she passed away. They now have their own memorial bench for her by the cafe.

They havent used my clip, not even a snippet . (but I did spot our photo in there!!! Our Willows TV premier!!!) Joking aside, im thrilled to have shared yesterday with some really lovely people. it was a very special experience hearing the different stories. Here's a few pics I can now share.

***A Year in the Life of Mike’s Bench will be on view at the visitor centre at Stanley Park, on West Park Drive, from October 4 to 24.
Admission will be free and it will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm, apart from October 9 when it will be closed***

Bit cooler at the seaside today but promising for tomorrow when we have our grandaughter. Bike ride might be on the cards. She loves it!

5.9 Wednesday morning. Did not sleep well last night as my cat and I spent most of Tuesday at the vet's; then this morning she woke me by pouncing onto the bed and onto me. One reason I didn't sleep well was that she didn't sleep with me which is very unusual. She won't touch the prescription food the vet gave us but did chase and eat some treats a few minutes ago. Now she is back in her little fleecy house by the bed. It's hard for me to want to eat when she won't eat but at least she took her new med this morning and hopefully will "produce" something sometime today from what she did eat.
