What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Morning All. After a really lovely day yesterday with good numbers I woke to 7.1 at 0745. So annoying. I did roast beef and had only one tiny roast potato, no yorkshire and a couple of tabsp gravy. I am wondering if wine is affecting me adversely. I had three small glasses of Merlot. On Fri night I had a steak salad and two glasses dry rose and my FBG after 6.2. I havent been drinking wine for some time, my drink of choice is G&T which seems fine. Anyone else find wine a problem? Anyway small beer compared to some of your issues...@Ziggy2017 I am sorry you are having such a bad time and hope Freemans can come up with a solution quickly. To Karen and anyone else dealing with hypos utter respect and sympathy.
Have a good Monday everyone. Stay well, stay safe.

Winner for kindness and sympathy to others. Personally, I think wine may lower bg 2 hrs after a meal then have a marked rebound next day. Gravy was an issue for me for a long time but we seem to have solved that now.

Thanks Ian. I as aware of gravy so had very little. Interesting about the wine rebound so I will be wary henceforth. Gin and slimline is always fine. Sometimes it just seems theres something unexpected waiting to ambush you. Still learning. From Nov 1 to my HbA1c mid Dec I need to be super careful.

Good morning all
4.6 today
4.9 yesterday - (late start yesterday and then very busy working didn’t get round to putting it on)
@PenguinMumlike @ianpspurs says what’s in your gravy? Re wine I buy a very dry red and have no issues with it but do with gravy. I can’t drink rose and have to be careful with some whites I’m fine with prosseco and a very dry white. It’s individual though I’m sure - but wine generally lowers mine providing I stick to one small one.
@Goonergal hope week not too stressful at least your bgs are back where they should be
@Ziggy2017 take care - hope your health issues settle soon
Hope everyone has a good week and especially those managing type 1 - it sounds like a nightmare at times, the hypos especially sound scary to me, very difficult to manage and get it level I’d imagine.

@shelley262 I think the problem with the wine might be the quantity! Though two G&Ts which I prefer no issue at all. Re the gravy I used some of the meat juices, veg water and Oxo onion granules. I dont do the full roast very often, the next one might well be Christmas Day. Yesterday we ate at 6pm which is early for me and I was 4.6. However I didnt test 2 hours after eating as my boys were here and we were having a lovely time. Oh well.....

I know, it’s a good reading. Just for me usually signals eating a bit late the night before. Which I didn’t - no food since 1.30pm yesterday. The sooner I realise to expect no consistency the sooner I’ll stop being disappointed
Emma you have made me think about the consequences of eating my biggest meal in the evening weekdays at 8pm. Not easy for me to get around but it may well be important for better numbers. Thanks for posting.

It definitely makes a difference for me - like you my evening meal tends to be half 7/8 and I get mid - late 5’s next morning. On nights where I’m going out or know it’s hectic and won’t have much time to eat unless even later I have a big salad for lunch at work to make sure I’ve had a decent meal and the next morning I tend to see 4’s, or very low 5 with the longer fasting time. And I can’t help that seeing a 4 at the start of the day just puts me in a better mood :)

Don't be too hard on yourself
Thanks @philchap1 it’s one of my flaws - less than perfection for myself drives me mad. Always has since I was a child - so that and being a control freak and having this crazy, does what it wants, diabetes is something I’m still trying to adjust to as don’t think I’ll ever feel totally in control of it
