What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Hello all. After weeks of sensible eating and still getting disappointing fbs in the high 7's/ 8's I succumbed to a small but tasty portion of take away fried fish and chips with mushy peas for evening meal last night and this mornings reading was 7.5.

The results are amazing!! My hug was for you feeling meh about them
Thanks @Emma_369 Don't see the BG as amazing but I like the Lipids getting back somewhere near OK. I may have finally undone (some of) the damage caused by fasting and cream in tea from earlier in the year.
@dogslife not succumbed, treated yourself as a favour to the ailing UK food industry. Very public spirited of you I'd say

Hello there, shelly262. I still buy brightly wrapped chocolates and put them in crystal dishes around the house for guests. I too watched the programme and ended up eating 2 of the sweets but they were soooo sweet they made me shudder. Just shows how tastes can change. If there are any left after Christmas I'll take them to the luncheon club where I do my voluntary work. They will soon disappear! Just hope there is no-one with diabetes there as I'd hate to lead them astray.

I've had 3 hugs so far from my results - crikey I didn't think they were that awful but now I am getting worried - should I be.?? What am I missing that is so bad that you guys see so clearly???
I tend to give hugs often because I believe every one deserves or needs a hug now and then no matter how good or bad their results are.

Paging @Bluetit1802 re the bloods and HbA1c. Also @Mbaker There are some previous threads but having difficulty locating.

@dogslife and @shelley262 I’m fine with sugary sweets lying around they hold no interest as they’re too sweet. My downfall is bowls of nuts and/or low carb treats. Can’t resist those - like you @shelley262 put the nuts out for sharing and end up eating them all myself!

Interesting I would imagine that I too would find them way too sweet now if I did give in even to one. x

There are many reasons why the HbA1c can be inaccurate.

and Google throws up a lot more.

My personal experience is my HbA1c has always been significantly higher than expected, and I mean significantly. I have done home HbA1c tests and worn a lot of Libres, plus my own meter testing over 4 years multiple times a day, and my GP accepts that my HbA1c is elevated. Last summer she contacted the consultant biochemist at the lab my surgery uses and between them agreed that I could have my HbA1c tested at this lab and another lab that uses different machinery, the two tests being done from the same blood draw. As there was a 4 mmol/mol difference in the 2 results (the usual lab being the higher of the two) they have agreed that I can continue to have it checked by both labs each time I am tested. Whilst I was pleased the second lab result showed a 4 point difference, it was still nowhere near the 8 point difference between my HbA1c and my other data. I have just had another two tests done but do not have the results as yet.

Thanks. Must store this list!

Thanks, Goonergal. You've just reminded me to go and buy my walnuts!

Sorry that your hbaca1 doesn’t reflect your testing results very very frustrating and sure @Bluetit1802 has similar issues.
Your cholesterol results are excellent though clearly no worries there and no impending statins discussions unlike moi!

I am very happy to take the stains bearing in mind family history - especially those who thought it was a smart idea to gamble against them. As per chat with a GP I ain't gambling on being able to sprint across the A14 and emerge unscathed.

To all pet lovers on the forum, I don't like pets of any sort grrrr
The reason is clear when Mrs J kept tropical fish and the children were at home I found I slipped down her priority list till I was at the bottom number 38 or something. No I'm not jealous, no I'm not jealous, no I'm not jealous. Hehehehe

Thanks for that. Mine are not that far apart but I am pretty sure I am lower than the standard Hba1c shows. Big lesson for me is to trust what I see daily and live with the higher docs numbers. Chasing lower numbers on that test is likely to cause big problems elsewhere. Many thanks for the links - hopefully what I think is going on will be verified in those.

@ianpspurs

Just to add to my post a few posts above this. I have just noticed you mentioned haematocrits and mean cell volumes etc. My haematocrits are just above the standard range as is my mean corpuscle haemoglobin (MCH). I have often wondered if these are the reasons for my elevated HbA1c but have never found any evidence. If you come across any, please let me know!
