What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Tjis what I dont get. The diabetes.co.uk states that they are ok then someone says it's not or I read some artcle that says it's not. The same is for other things. The information is all very conflicting you read one article that states certain foods are good. You click another link and there it states its not. Like fruit I read that diabetica can eat fruit then ibread they can't. Greek yogurt is supposed to be ok but i checked that sugar/carb levels and they are higher than in other stuff.
Atbthe moment I'm pre-diabetic and am trying really hard not to become diabetic.

Morning Flic
Iv also been in double figures for last week or so .
Due to news from specialist I have been extremely anxious and stressed plus I have seen my test numbers up into the teens without changing my food plan .

All I'm saying is try not to stress worry to much .
as it does no favours to our bs levels .

I really hope you get lower readings very soon .

@Lizzie34 hi and welcome to the forum, I know it can seem confusing and contadictory but it is right there in the fist paragraph.

Some can handle it some can't there are no hard and fast rules where diabetes is concerned just guidelines because it is such an individual thing I can eat porridge if I choose as it does not spike me too much now it used to cause me problems, the only way to know is to test for your self test then have some then check your BG at say one hour and then two hours if your BG does not skyrocket and is back in normal range after two hours or so then it would probably be safe for you.

Good luck for the future

Thanks for the reply.

Welcome

Lizzie it’s a bit like learning your way around a new town- whether on holiday or living there. First learn the most important route. In this case it’s basically to avoid as many carbs as you are able, in order to lower your bg. That means try to lose the potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, flour products generally (including thickened sauces), cereals. They are all eventually sugar in your body. Use your tester to check what might affect you personally. And if that diet has a side effect of losing weight, then (unless you are v thin), that’s a plus in the diabetes battle.
The old advice of a ‘good healthy diet’, ie lots of fruit and veg, whole grain bread etc is outdated and not the best advice for diabetics. Fruit is healthy, but even a lovely apple will have about 14 gms of carbs. Some fruit has just too much sugar to be worth eating. There is new and good thinking about a more effective diet for diabetics, but not everybody who gives you advice might have caught up with that yet.
If you look around this website, there’s lots of info. Some people are very adventurous with their diet, others stick to a basic list. Do what suits you. You can start off carefully and work from there. If you have worries or difficulties that can be answered by others on the forum, then shout.
It’s worth it (and easier) to lose the pre-diabetic label than the diabetic one. And very easy to progress from pre-diabetic to the full on diabetes.
Cheer up, it’s doable.
