What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Back to the five hive with 5.3 this morning.

Early dinner and exercise the answer, swim early doors and after work went to watch my godson and his sister play in a youth orchestra. The flower duet played at 35 different speeds but everyone had a great time!

I really do think my morning FBG levels are getting lower overall.

I had 1 very small end slice of sourdough bread yesterday with my dinner as it was brought into the house and I was tempted after sniffing it for a bit. and also one of my daughter’s chips from her dinner from the chippy.

I used to make my own Sourdough, so unfortunately temptation was never far away. Gave away the main culture when diagnosed last year although the spin off I kept ‘just in case’ is still languishing in the back of the fridge.

I occasionally have a slice of bread but I really don’t care for anything other than proper sourdough, so saying no isn’t a problem. If I must have some bread, my system seems to cope better with small amounts earlier in the day so it’s a breakfast or lunch thing. I did find some low carb sliced bread which is Ok from time to time, but it tastes nothing like my own. The low carb seeded bagels are good though.

Morning All so 7.3 and a week of 7s bar one 6 but to put spin on it better than 8s. If I could stay in the 6s regularly I would be satisfied. @ravensmitten I occasionall have a slice of sourdough toast piled with either mushrooms or smashed avocado at one particular cafe where I meet up with friends. Ow I have one slice LC toast with loads of tea to start every day. You are doing well to swerve carbs when eating with your family, that can be challenging. Happy Saturday everyone and remember we are here because we care.

Thanks, I mean I won’t say it’s a walk in the park, I’m being realistic though, it’s unavoidable and around me all the time, and I have no expectations on anyone else. I cook all the food, I make up the lunchboxes, I meet with friends. I could go and live in the mountains I suppose as an alternative. :D

Think I said it quite a few times before on here, seems type 2 is in some ways is harder than type 1, with the exception of I unless, a cure comes along I’ve got it for life. If I want to eat sourdough I do, it will spike my sugars the same as any other carb, but will come down to a good level within 2 hrs. Over Christmas I eat an insane amount of carbs but still managed to stay 100 % in my target range. I’ve tried the low carb option and to be honest for me I might as well eat the full blown version. My only big stay away from is pizza due to the big delay in carb absorption, unless I do a split bolus

Mine never came out any cop, although the other breads I’d bake were ok. The smell though when baking :0” Fair play on giving your culture away, I enjoy the ritual of making bread: I did get to a point where I could bake without touching it, haven’t tried since starting a lower carb way of eating again.

Not been tempted by normal bread or bagels in the house either, not fussed about that at all. But sourdough

Oh, was 5.3 this mirning

Did do another sour dough experiment last night seeing though my carb count for the day was pretty low. (I know I know, slippery slope and excuses) but was curious and it was there. ie, I’m not going to go out of my way to test a theory by buying some myself. Anyway had 2 slices on their own, and then my bg was slightly lower 5.3 after 5.8 before again, which is odd as 3 weeks ago I couldn’t even do a slice of bread was sending me to 12-17… that said I’ve lost 13lbs since and my bs seems to staying around the 5 to 6 mark.

Seems it didn’t affect my morning read this morning so maybe I jumped to a conclusion yesterday, either that ot the morning is as variable as to be difficult to predict what has an effect on it, so I may just do my pre and post new meal readings in future, and occasionally a morning, or if I’m feeling under the weather. Could just be lucky and also not overdoing it. Nothing conclusive though and highly unscientific.

I’m keeping at lowish carb though as it fills me far more, keeps my bgs down and I feel far better on it.

darn, the snow pack we so greatly need is melting away. Near record warm temperatures are wrecking havoc…..
abs and stretching this morning, stayed home from the gym as I felt a little off and don’t want to pass any sickness along. Actually feeling better now but tired. I intend to do lots of walking today and enjoy the above zero temperatures.

Evening @Ladynijo. Too true. I made our bread for almost 30 years. Nothing you can buy tastes half as good as the bread you bake yourself.

Most supermarket bread isn't good for anybody, diabetic or not, IMO. It's virtually all made using the Chorleywood process nowadays, because production is much faster.

You can always tell if you read the wrapper. The inclusion of a list of additives, eg. acidity regulators, emulsifiers, flour improvers, flour treatment agents, bleaching agents, soy and ascorbic acid are a dead give away.
That's a Chorleywood loaf.

G'morning chums. Fasting of 6.7 today - a pip high but I still have this sucky cold so that explains a lot. Going to spend the day birding - a sure way to cheer me up and the weather looks set to be pleasant with just a moderate breeze.

I've never worked out whether spending the day with wildlife just boosts me emotionally, or is there some actual physical gain from being outdoors. Either way it looks set to be a great day.

Hope everyone here is spiffingly well and set to make the most of the day.

Have fun and stray safe peeps

Oh dear.
Libre 7.3
GlucoNavii 8.4
CodeFree 7.9

No clue what caused that sudden flight away from the hive. I noticed from my Libre graph my readings went up quite a bit around 1am before dropping again. They are normally stable until shortly before I wake up enough to reach for my test kits.

Morning All so 7.8 today. Disappointing but work to be done Pengie. Some great numbers in the Hive folks. @DEBBIESCOTT you have been under the weather now for a long time so maybe your body is still recalibrating. You are doing everything you can. Bread is such an emotional subject. I cannot start the day without a slice of LC toast, its the deal I made with myself. But more than any other food I miss toast and marmalade. When I am very unwell I only eat a slice of toast with tea to sustain me. Keep going all.
