What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Just goes to show it is the diet that screws me up.
Absolutely @ChrisT2. It's the diet that screws us up. In the absence of illness or injury, the food we swallow is the chief factor that influences BG levels in type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is a very individual disorder and we're all different. Some of us need to reduce our carb intake lower than others and unfortunately we can't predict in advance how much reduction will be needed, but you're heading in the right direction. Well done you.

6.5 this morning after fasting all day yesterday. Nothing but water and Metformin Eeeuggh!! :sour: This is probably my lowest limit, would liked to have seen maybe a 5 for my efforts but hey-ho not to be.:)
No @ChrisT2, a FBG of 6.5 is none too shabby, but there's no need to stop there. You're making steady progress, but you can improve.

Obviously, somebody had worked hard to prepare and cook the dinner you ate the night before. Alas, the food on offer would have been very bad indeed for diabetics, as you realise.

To be frank, two servings of pastry in one meal is not good for any of us whether diabetic or not. Make a habit of that and it becomes a recipe for hardening of the arteries, which in turn increases your risk of heart attack and stroke in later life.

Our parents and grandparents may have had few options and many died before their time, but these days there are so many delicious ingredients available.

If I were you, I'd aim for lowish carb meals at near enough the same times each day (B,L and D works well for most of us, but keep to what your body is used to) Try not to skip meals and avoid snacks until your FBG readings improve. Fastng is another tool which helps some, once those readings stabilise, but not as a get-out-of-jail card following a carb-heavy feast. If you want to improve your FBG readings, consistency is the name of the game.

That said. one or two disappointing readings will do no lasting harm. A week's worth might, a month's worth will, and a year or mores worth is probably what unknowingly landed most of us in diabetes territory!
