What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Hello mates,
At a couple of the other forums I've frequented there was a thread like this one where we all sorta checked in each day, with our first cup of coffee or tea, and reported our fasting or waking blood glucose level and some short comment about whether we're ok with it or if not - why not?...

It worked well as a sort of 'first thread to check' each morning and post to.

I'll start.

This morning was a 5.6mmol for me. That's about normal for me

What about you?

Good points mentioned here.

good morning all :)

4.2 today

woke up to no water in the house earlier, thankfully it's back now so I can shower before I visit the DN for my review :)

I had visions of needing to have a 'lick and a promise' using a flannel and a bowl of heated up mineral water :hilarious:

Grass cutting later at mum's before she gets her visitors at the weekend ( providing the weather holds).

Have a good day everyone :)

Morning everyone 4.8 with a bit of a headache today. Last night I realised that I was meant to be taking 2 beta blockers twice a day but I had been taking 1 twice a day :banghead: might explain all the light headedness. Going to see the diabetes doctor on the 25th I’m a little bit worried as I have been having a few higher blood sugars between lunch and dinner around the 10s 11s and 12s

Made me laugh geeful...' a lick & a promise'...I wouldn't dare tell what you my mother would have called a lick & a promise ..if I had to go to my DSN without a shower...given the lack of attention I get from her...I doubt very much she'd notice.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and who listen to Planet Rock, if you don't know I'm not explaining.

A little 6.8 for me this morning.

Today will be donated to terrorising my music teacher, the practice piece of music is a jazzed up version of when the saints go marching in ( I'm not overly keen on jazz ), now is this music a foot the ball theme or a hymn I have no idea, either way I'm crucifying it ........

I am not sure I have settled on a level. I think I was 37 yesterday, I am guessing I would need to go fairly low to transition to ketosis, so a couple of days around 15 may do it, depending on excercise. Dont have any immediate plans on fasting, but may skip evening meal, some of the time. So at the moment its a keto lifestyle, without actual ketones. Next week Ill push a bit harder to get into ketosis.
Hi @Canvaspic if you are going for Keto you need to be eating 20 g carbs or less per day. Watch out for the hidden carbs, especially in veg. Just have above ground veg such as Cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts etc. This will help https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/foods. Fasting will get you into Ketosis quicker. You could start by not eating after 7.00pm and start again at 7.00am that will give you 12 hours of fasting. You can then build it up slowly by either moving or skipping a meal like breakfast so that you then do 16/8 that's 16 hours fasting and 8 eating window. You can have black tea, coffee and water during fasting. If at any time during fasting you don't feel to good just eat.

5.0 this morning
One of those days with lots of stuff including dentists yuk - still sun is trying to struggle it’s way out and hoping to catch up with friend this afternoon who wants to know more about my way of eating - I always enjoy a good chat about Low carbing and OH goes glazed over with boredom every time I mention it!

By happy coincidence my post breakfast BG reading was due immediately after my filling was done. It was 6.6 which is good on all fronts - hope your dentist appointment is also successful and not too stressful today.
I did wonder whether my crazy readings yesterday were caused by the start of an infection in the tooth that needed filling but the dentist said it looked fine. All good.

Morning all. Crikeey I slept in til late o'clock... the sky is dark here and its raining so now I'm togged up in wet weather gear before my morning walk....... and 5.4 on the sugar front....

5.5 this morning. Doing a little Irish jig to the loo! Out of the 6s that annoyed me over the past 2 weeks. Lots of walking yesterday and I drank more water. Not sure if that's why it's lower today and out of the 6s but I'm happy whatever the case.

I'm starting a letter (signed as a new member of the PPG) to my GP practices (2) today (for attention of all drs (@8) and DNs (4 that 'specialise') and paramedic practitioner (2) practice manager and her deputy. It feels like a criminal case to catch a murderer kind of letter! My story, updated to include the Birmingham event confirming it was very successful and why. It would appear from the feedback I received from the surgery via the practice manager that I'm the only patient EVER to have put my diabetes into remission apart from the post bariatric surgery patients (We are entitled to ask for stats if anyone else is thinking of doing this as it doesn't breach patient confidentiality, the results could be incredibly interesting). I was shocked to the core but I'm not surprised nobody else has to be honest as they are all obviously following the progressive disease guidelines and nobody has questioned anything or looked to Google as I did. I'm going to include the Inspirational Stories booklet (this is so powerful and if anyone else would like their own journey included it's an ongoing thing, I will just keep sending them to DCUK who are redesigning our booklet), 100 stone lost and kicked diabetes' butt leaflet (the reductions in weight and HbA1c levels are astounding) and the blood sugar leaflet (as they obviously don't know how important testing is to diabetics!). I'm also printing off Dr David Unwins paper and confirmation of his last award. No 9 on the list of 50 most influential gp's. As a low carb advocate he has saved his practice 57k in just one year, and helped so many patients lower their HbA1c levels. I will see what their response is. It will also be interesting to see what comes out of our event from the PR perspective. I have lots of ideas on who to send our story to but just need to wait to see how DCUK get on first. One of them is fellow diabetic Teresa May although i think she has quite enough on her plate at the moment (but is it low carb!?). Ideas in the pot welcomed. My ultimate plan is for us to be sitting next to Holly Willoughby on that sofa ' move up Holly there's a few of us!'!!! Shoot for the moon and all that.

Yesterday along with doing a TripAdvisor review of Jamie's Italian I wrote a long email to Hannah our amazing waitress on the night. I'm going to write to Jamie himself (although I did ask Hannah to forward hers to him as it was not only thanking them for meeting our dietary needs so well but it made suggestions re including low carb desserts into his menus.

Sun's out here on the north west coast. I'm taking my dear old friend for lunch. 89 years young and sadly losing her memory significantly. She has told me all her stories many times but I have the look of surprise down to a fine art. We always have a lovely time.

Have a good day folks.

That's my 'low chat' level post folks :-)

Lady next door has been diagnosed as T1 last week and has been given metformin as a stop gap until diabetes specialist visits her on Friday to explain things to her though she has been told to avoid carbs, she was asking my advice but I had to explain that if she is T1 I being T3E would find difficulty in giving good advice as our situations are so different though I did tell her that it may be best not to make any drastic changes in diet till she has been given more information about her diagnosis on friday. she was talking about getting a meter but I said to hold of on that because if she is definitely T1 then she will have one provided on prescription she is very worried imagining all the worst complications and the possibility of having to inject though I did say that syringes went out a while back and you are now talking about pens which are a little easier to use.

I am very surprised at her diagnosis at such an age but know it does happen. And she has gone from 9 stones to 6 stones in a few months.

I think I have put her mind at ease about it a bit but as I said did not want to say too much till she has had a proper consultation with her health team. As any advice I give may me wrong for her.

Err forgot to say she will be 80 on her next birthday.
