What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Wanders into thread on a sunny morning - perfect for shriving so here goes. Let me reach out to anyone who I may have offended or in whom I may have sown seeds of consternation. Chief among my sins is my habit of committing to screen my personal reservations. Y'all ignore my doubts and go your own way (not their best that one).

I know! My consultant was trying to fight it for me, but I didn’t want to waste time fighting when I could be revising as the university said here was no extra time that could be given to me. I tried to explain risk of hypos etc but hey wasn’t having any of it.

I think the university’s view was that ‘it might go away’. Bearing in mind I’m not overweight and I’m young it seems unlikely a lifestyle change would have got rid of the diabetes..... and 4 months later here I am being insulin dependant.... clearly was never going to go away lol!

Our "learning centres" seem so poor about this. My daughter who was diagnosed as dyslexic when entering uni was given no leeway . Her 1st year exams were poor so I threatened to sue. They had her tested and turns out she was the most dyslexic person ever to have entered further education. Now she is qualified but with such an unnecessary struggle and emotional time from the uni. This was 5 years ago so sorry t hear this still goes on.....
 
Morning...was up at 4am so a whole four hours sleep...no point in going back to bed so I decided to press on...so far I have done absolutely b***r all...I'm tired & grumpy...I never do well with little sleep...woke to a 6.1...more lounging in an attempt to make something of my day.

Busy day so just going to post today's social media post. Lots if my friends trying to lose a few lbs so trying to help in my own little way. They aren't all linked to amazing forums like this so I'm working as a go between :-) I posted a brilliant video by Jason Fung alongside. Short 5 minutes of pure genius.

THIS IS FOR ANYONE OUT THERE CURRENTLY TRYING TO LOSE A FEW LBS.

This is the shortest and best (in my humble opinion) video explaining how our body reacts to certain foods and the part the hormone insulin plays in dealing with food we eat.

If you have 5 minutes to spare its worth listening to.

I feel that educating myself has helped me understand my body and its needs and steered me in a different direction. Before i most certainly didn't think about what I was putting in. Now i know how everything I put in is going to effect me. This has enabled me to make better choices and lose so much weight.

Re intermittent fasting. This is not as extreme as you think. I have only done an 18:6 myself but I know many who have seen great results in all health indicators by IF longer. I would usually not eat after dinner (about 6pm) then not eat food until lunchtime the next day (apart from a coffee and cream in the morning). So my insulin is only out on patrol twice during the 24 hour period (great for my blood sugars as well as maintaining my weight). I also find that with my higher healthy fat way of eating I'm really not hungry, when I used to eat more often I found myself more hungry!!! This video explains why.

That said I've had a cheese omelette this morning. I have a busy day ahead and probably wont stop for lunch. May grab a coffee in town later. Love a nice coffee now more than ever in my life. I have my Aldi small bar of choccy in my bag in case I'm overcome with emotion looking at the cakes (never as good as they look anyway) so it's all good. Little bit of determination goes a long way.

A belated good morning all, well last week was quite frankly horrible. I was averaging 4 hypos a day, which included the night time ones. My pump was adjusted more than I care to mention, but still hovered around 3.5 - 4, which is far too low for me. But I have managed to return to work today with levels around 6, hopefully back to semblance of normality as it was a scary time last week if I'm honest. All aboard the Diabetes train, which is in a uncontrolled trundle at the moment, stopping only when it feels like it!!

Tis a lovely sunny morning here after a very unusual for me good nights sleep I awoke at 8.30 AM feeling very relaxed and at ease then I recalled the fact that I had a blood test booked for 8.40 AM oh dear threw some gear on and out the door no time to test or owt made it to the doctors just a couple of minutes late but was OK had blood drawn then walked home tested bloods and got a reading of 4.3 so all OK.

Had an interesting conversation with lady who did the bloods she was going to start a keto diet this week but as she is off for a weekend in Paris on Friday has decided to delay starting keto till next week she also said last time she did it she managed to keep to less than twenty grams of carbs a day and lost several pounds in weight which was her aim so I have at least one supporter of low the low carb WOE at the surgery who actually understands what I am doing.

JOHN ...judging by your posts and pics, you certainly have no right waking at 830...and then making a doctor's appointment at 840am..:woot:

Here is another of my favorite organ pieces. When I was listening to "A Whiter Shade of Pale" this morning I realized how much that organ part sounds like this. And just now I read on a website that it was derived from the composer of this piece. Cool. --

 
Can I just ask which device people are using to get their blood results numbers? I’m new to all of this (and the forum) so I want to make sure that the results people post are from the same device as me - I have a Nexus GlucoRX, and sometimes I see quite high numbers!
So I would also like to know what to do in that situation - is is there a quick fix like drinking a load of water as well as eating the right things.

Hi PB, I use an acccucheck performa nano for my bloods, last test was 8.2, a tad high for me, 2hrs after my tea of cheese on toast because my daughter ate my chilli that I was defrosting. I generally read in the 5's or 6's but everybody is different.
There are a ton of different blood glucose monitors out there and they are all rubbish when giving high numbers but not surprisingly a lot better or even ok when giving you a low numbers, fancy that.
Yes there is plenty you can do to get your scores down to a reasonable level and the clever people on here will be along shortly to tell you how's and why's, did you get a welcome pack from @daisy1 stay with the thread mate you are in the right place.
More of a Jack Daniels guy myself, you can keep your H2O:wacky:
