What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.3 this lovely bright morning. I’m waiting for my daughter to arrive on her way to work with all her family’s washing - her washing machine has conked out, same week as her car has ( she’s in a riny courtesy car atm) . I can’t help with the car but at least I can do her washing. Hope it stays sunny so I can get it out on the line

Morning...you really can't beat a good night sleep...brilliantly sunny here but cold the same as yesterday...had a fabulous walk with 'plumpy' yesterday through our local park...watching the Moorhens with their chicks in tow...woke to a 5.2

Morning all, a glorious, but crisp morning here in the Northeast. A 9 greeted me today, not unexpected as ran a temp basal after training and decided to run it for longer than I usually do as am still having a ridiculous amount of hypos, and am a little bit peeved with them now.

Take care everyone.

@Adm_Mad great number to start and agree it can be a little tricky for some "coming out". @gennepher hug for early waking - I have full sympathy there as I have often been in my gym by that time as I couldn't sleep - atm don't seem to have that problem. @ziggy_w yet another great fbg. @DJC3 is that riny courtesy car from the same place as the belly pork with nipples? @P1ckle number seems a little lower and love your sunny disposition.
My fbg was a miserable 5.7 as it crawled out of me onto the strip. Spiffing 17.2 body fat and 21.9 BMI - for me LC seems to have settled into great diet weak bg control IMHO.
Edit: Balancing comment on fbg: my fbgs since March are up to 4 hrs later than previous 2 to 3 years and I seem to have some kind of virus. I also am a bit of a known non-believer in LC.

Haha I noticed that little typo after I’d posted but thought ‘noone will notice’ Should have guessed Eagle Eyes would pick it up!
Not going to offer a hug for fbg, know you don’t want that, but great news on your other parameters.
Have you ever had a fasting insulin test? I’ve been reading Ivor Cummins recently and he reckons fbg on its own is a v poor marker of control unless taken with fasting insulin. And that after following a lc woe for some time, one’s insulin level comes down to healthy levels, but then the yin yang interplay of insulin and glucagon may give rise to slughtly higher fbg. This is not the same as high bg with high insulin - that’s a totally different scenario. Its the product of the two measurements which gives a far more important indicator of insulin sensitivity. The equation gives the HOMA and is a good indiator of the health of your glucose insulin system.
I paid to have fasting insulin done privately recently and was happy to see A low level, so when I finally figured out how to work out the HOMA it was in the ideal zone. This means a higher fbg if offset by low fasting insulin is ok and quite normal. It’s made me feel a lot more relaxed about the fbg ( and interestingly readings have come down a bit since then too, maybe cos I’m more chilled)
Anyway, it was just a thought. You’ve probably looked into it yourself knowing you.

Morning All. 5.8 at 0800 not great, not really bad. I like a 5. have been trying to shake things up a bit but I think the one thing that is helping is eating supper earlier usually by 7 this week. Its a hard one cos OH gets in at 8pm and tbh its often 8.15 or even 8.30 when eating.
@Adm_Mad welcome and hope you find your way through this perplexing dx.@philchap1 glad you’re better. @johnpol hugs for hypos.@ianpspurs at least you are sleeping better! @DJC3 what are us mums like? If one of mine does turn up with a bag of washing I wonder what I’ve done wrong, lol.
Have a great Thursday. Sunny but cold here. Nearly Friday @trick60 .
Stay well, get better, stay safe.

Morning all. A late one for me, I was woken by a phone call at 8 .. On Wednesday yoga is now my go to, which I still find extremely difficult / tiring but my body feels oh so much better. 5.3 on the meter this Thursday . Wishing you all well as can be......

That is really very interesting. Recently my before meals BS have often dropped to around 4.2 (or even 3.8). Fasting BS never ever drops that low.

Did you get your fasting insulin test kit from medicheck and were you able to draw the blood at home?

I find eating dinner early is beneficial too. Easier for me as Mr C gets up at 5:30 so likes an early supper and bed.

The washing never stops does it? Youngest has invited herself round for dinner tonight so that means she’ll be bringing a bag of laundry too, I’m hoping I’ll be able to get the big bag that oldest dropped off out of the way by then. I thought my washing machine would get a bit of a rest when there was just the 2 of us left, silly me!

I got it from Thriva - they send you a kit to take it yourself by stabbing a finger. It doesn’t hurt, but I couldn’t get enough blood so had to pay for one of their nurses to visit and take a venous sample. Cost more but I still figure it was worth it. I’m fairly sure you can get it done at Medicheck too though.
My figures are the same - much lower before lunch and dinner than fbg.

Morning to you all! 4.8 for this morning after I almost fell out of bed, saved by my disassembled computer next to me whilst I am out of my room for now.

Ended up doing a lot at the gym last night, barbell squats really got me suffering but in a good way and noticed that I hit another all time low of 4.3 last night!

Have a great Thursday all, I really hope that today brings better news than yesterday :cat:

@DJC3 interesting, what is HOMA pls?

Homeostatic Model Assessment (of insulin resistance)
Its calculated by (fasting insulin) x ( fasting glucose) divided by 405
Insulin measured in uIU/ml and fbg in mg/dl so both measurements are in American units.
A quick Google search will give you conversions though and this is the online calculator that does the equation
