I do lurk on this thread but rarely post as for me, 4 years in, I do have concerns that, for some people, measuring bg to 1 or even 2 decimal points it becomes too challenging or competitive or worrying

I do test myself most mornings and have learned that for me it's best to use it as a rough guide, a very rough guide and to viewed as a much wider than a daily picture.
I simply mentally tell myself
9 whoops, check for infection/illness
8 oh? What could be going on
7 mildly note to check again tomorrow
6 usual for me
5 nice surprise but rare
4 maybe had one once?

Then repeat again the next day and see if a pattern emerges. I really can't worry about a decimal place, or a single reading. If there are repeated higher readings of I might see if my diet or exercise needs tweaking but I'm usually back in the 6s (normal for me).

I try not to compare to someone else who may be different physically or genetic structure to myself, who may eat, exercise or sleep differently or who may have different stress levels to me. I am only concerned about me, and my body

You @ChrisT2 have made brilliant progress for you. You've got yourself into a normal range. Be proud, celebrate that, ignore others. Just look after yourself and your body.

You@ChrisT2, Every day I read on the forum and extract some good knowledge for myself. I don’t compare myself with anyone. Obviously in diabetes everyone is one of a kind. I think your awareness is a plus. Good luck!

I suppose I have to agree with you but I just don't seem to get down to those 4's and 5's that some people achieve on here and good luck to them for their achievements. When I first started measuring I was no stranger to 10's to 13's especially at night and a couple of points less first thing AM but those scary highs although not completely eliminated are much less apparent since concentrating on reducing carbs and caterpillar diet
I have a friend who is also T2 and on insulin with a blood glucose monitor. His readings are almost a constant 5 every hour of the day with little regard to diet which I suppose is why I get angry at my higher values but see a 5 as a target to aim at. Thinking about it now perhaps I should be grateful for anything in single figures and the green range on my meter but I can't help but yearn after a 5.0 for just one day.
It takes time @ChrisT2. You're heading in the right direction. Slow and steady wins the race!

Morning All 6.7 this morning which is a surprise after a bad night’s sleep with sore throat, ears, etc. Covid negative could be pollen.
@ChrisT2 agree with @MrsA2 you have come a long way in a short time and best NOT to compare with others. My mantra is Carry on Carrying On! Be your own personal best. Enjoy Friday everyone.

6.8 this morning. Thanks to all for the comments and I will have to try and avoid the anger or confusion at the randomly high readings. You are all correct in that it is a long journey and a trend which I am thankful is for me is beginning to go in the right direction but I can't help thinking at times my meter is just a random number generator.

I will stop my ranting in future and just take the numbers as they come. (Secretly though inside I will still be fuming at the higher numbers as I munch away on my lettuce leaves.):sour:

The pollen count was certainly high all week @PenguinMum. The wet weather followed by a hot, dry spell means grass pollen is in peak production.

Morning All drumroll please ….5.7 can it be true? I didn’t recheck so maybe its fraudelent. Its been at least 3+ years since I’ve seen a morning 5. Will stop gushing now. @ChrisT2 feel free to rant here because we wrap an arm around disappointment, frustration and bathe in awe at those who keep it steady.
Happy Saturday everyone.
