When to call an ambulance

If you haven't got glucagon at home, I'd suggest asking for a prescription for that before you leave hospital
Though unless there is someone else there to give it, its no use, not something you can use yourself afaik
That's why I don't have any, I live on my own, no-one to give it to me for 95% of the time

You can, although it's hardly ever necessary (if you can take glucagon you can have something sweet as well).
It could be useful when having a low while also being sick.
I showed my neighbours how to use mine, they can come over quicker than an ambulance can if I should call them in a situation like the one plantae was in.

You can get a glucogel substance on prescription , I always have a few of the tubes around the house and in my pocket for such occasions , hope you soon get back on your feat , does seem odd that they admitted you , did you cause yourself an injury ?

I'm home now. It took about 6 hours at the hospital to stabilise my blood sugars, but they did it. I'm very glad of the support that I got on this forum. I don't normally live alone but this week I am (partner is away). I panicked but going to hospital was the right decision. More than that, though, is the support I got on here while I was waiting for the ambulance. Just wonderful, and thank you to all who responded.

I got released from hospital this morning and have been eating a lot more carbs and sugar than usual. I don't want to go back again tonight. My BGL this afternoon has been hovering about the 9.0 mark but I'm ok with that. Better than 2's and I'm sure a day being "high" won't hurt me. Well not as much as being in the 2s anyway

Why have they admitted you?

Let us know how you're doing!
They admitted me because of the low blood sugar I assume :) Or perhaps because the ambulance transported me? I'm not sure. They couldn't explain why the BGL was low. Edit: it was probably because of the ambulance transport. I don't know the protocol

To be honest this can just happen, could be any number of things which may not be identifiable after the fact

Maybe you hit a blood vessel when taking your insulin, maybe you were just using up more glucose than normal for whatever reason or your body was being more efficient with the insulin, maybe the food you ate actually had quite a bit less carbs in it that you thought, maybe you accidentally had slightly more units that you thought you did - and yes I'm sure many of this have had/done these before. Or maybe something else entirely, yes a lot of 'maybe's

Is hitting a blood vessel an issue? I do know that with my rapid insulin inject last night before dinner there was blood. This is not something that normally happens and not something I mentioned at the hospital: I'd forgotten about it until just now that you mentioned it

Well it means it would likely work a lot lot faster than it otherwise would if it goes straight into the blood stream
