Why are you all so convinced carbs are the problem?

Carbs are not the enemy. They are found in fruit and vegetables and starches and are readily available. Ok 60 was an exageration but looking at my BG app i would say 450-500 a day is average. It is because i eat plant based whole foods including many fruits, vegetables, legumes and starches. I have 150 carbs for dinner and only need 4 units to control it so please don't worry about me. My test results are excellent but thanks for caring :)

Yes low carbing is definitely better than pills for the rest of my life! I was on 6 different medications from my GP and have stopped them all since low carbing. How good is that? :) The only one I am taking now is an antidepressant while I have counselling sessions.

But fructose is a sugar that is particularly bad for diabetics! That's why a lot of us type 2's stick to berries.

Who says I don't eat fibre? My carbs consist of vegetables - fibre. Don't worry about what I'm doing to myself. I'm rather worried about you and your 600g carbs a day.

How do you know how much fat I am eating?

That last one was supposed to be for you but i am not too hot with this forum yet sorry. It is true i do not know how much fat you eat a day so i shouldn't make assumptions. However if you are having low carbs then just to survive you must be having a lot of fat and/or protein as 50 carbs will only give you 200 cals.

What are your test results as a matter of interest?

By eating very low carbs since I was diagnosed, I have brought my HbA1c down from 107 to 40 and feel fitter and healthier than I have for years. The reason I feel carbs are the problem is because they are the problem (at least for me) - I spent years eating a low fat high carb diet and the result was T2 diabetes. 3 months of low carb and my blood sugar is back in the normal range...

Can you substantiate that please? Fructose that has been separated from the fibre of the fruit i.e. juices or sweets, is bad for everyone BUT fruit is very healthy and should be consumed daily.

Wonder what sugar trolls taste like :angelic:

Good thanks but i am T1 so all i can do is maximise the effectiveness of my insulin.

So can you achieve a SD of less than 2.3 eating all those carbs?

Are you a healthy size 8/10?

What do you consider to be low fat? What do you consider high carb?

So you're not willing to share these good results with us? Cholesterol for example.

That isn't really fair. I am genuinely trying to help. I may not always be as constructive as i would like to be but i really do care about everyone and i am really horrified by the high fat low carb craze.

Most of the fats I eat are dairy.
Someone is way behind with the science I'm thinking.
I LCHF but the HF is a bit misleading cos I don't really eat any more fat than my parents thought normal back in the forties and fifties .... healthiest generation of the last two hundred years it would appear.
I don't binge on fat.
I eat what I consider mostly pre industrialised stuff.
By that I mean .... cows make fll cream milk full fat butter full fat yoghurt.
Factories make low fat semi skimmed no fat zero fat products.
In other words I'm eating normally while many people are eating industrially.

The results ....
since going LCHF my latest test results have me near as none diabetic.
Bad cholesterol is down.
Good cholesterol is up.
Blood sugar levels are averaging in the fives.
Blood pressure down.
All medication down.
Weight down.

What's not to like?
I've even started reintroducing some carbs.

My doctor said to me "you have the cholesterol" of a Chinese peasant, not too PC but got the message across. It is 2.8 if you must know.

Fat doesn't make people fat.
Sugar makes people fat.

But that is just it, i am not behind the science i am quite literally monitoring it everyday and the link i provided from nutritionfacts.org is a doctor who reviews all or as much scientific peer reviewed studies as he can to no financial benefit. The science says that saturated fat, cholesterol and trans fats are all incredibly unhealthy and to be honest that hasn't really changed in years.

I am really not attacking you in any way i promise and i am not playing the blame game. I believe we are all put in an environment of super stimuli foods that have promoted many of the health problems we have today.

I really want to help and i really think high fat is not the solution and want to know where you all gleaned this information from? Both the 7th day adventist study and the EPIC study both showed that the more animal products you ate (and thus more saturated fat) the higher the prevelence of T2 diabetes. If you look at Dr Barnard's work, Dr McDougal, Dr Ornish, Dr Furhman and many others they are proving with their patients that they can reverse T2 diabetes. I don't have that luxury but i don't understand why you won't give it a shot? Surely anything is better than diabetes and pills the rest of your lives!

I am very low carb and Full fat. I am not vegan but I eat a lot of salads, I cook everything in saturated animal fats. I eat a lot of meat. I have never been fitter.

I tried every diet under the sun over the last fifteen years. I have never lost a pound trying those diets. In fact I put on weight consistently because of low fat and carbs, that I was told to eat and I cooked in vegetable fat, which is very bad for me.

My life signs were dreadful. Everything from cholesterol to liver function were very high.
Now because of dietary change all my life signs are normal and healthier than they have been since I was young.

I am the living proof that low carb works. And there are entry more if you read the success stories on this forum.

The number of times I have seen diabetics come back on here looking for advice after the first few months of low carbing they have tried carbs again because they have done really well and fallen off the wagon.

Carbs are poison especially the refined grains and starchy potatoes. They are evil!

Saturated fats are good for you! It is the polyunsaturated fats and the like that a 're slowly poisoning the population.

Fat doesn't make people fat.
Sugar makes people fat.
Ok that just isn't true, can you provide a study or at least a source from where you got that? Sugar AND fat both have the capacity to make you fat but fat is the thing that will screw up your cardio vascular health.
